Volume 2 Chapter 14 ACT.36 And the Gears Creak and Turn (Ⅱ)
Countless stars twinkled in the tranquil night.
In the Holy Church's headquarters, within its secret greenhouse.
Surrounded by a riot of colorful flowers, the beautiful garden was illuminated in a magical light by several lamps.
At the center, 2 figures were seated at a tea table.
One was a stunning blind girl with flowing golden hair, as beautiful as a bundle of starlight.
The girl's name was Stella.
She was the symbol of the Holy Church and held the de facto supreme power as a Saint.
Saint Stella picked up a cup from the table, took a sip of her tea, and swallowed it.
With her usual enigmatic smile, she spoke.
"Not long ago, 'My' Rai was seriously injured on a mission. Have you seen the report about it?"
"Yes, I have reviewed it."
The one who answered Saint Stella's question was the young man sitting in front of her.
With hair of azure silver and deep blue eyes, his appearance was as refined as his demeanor.
He looked like a prince out of a fairy tale; his name was Belta di Zeguel.
"It's not that Conwell is weak. Rather, he's quite strong as he is, and has room for improvement. It's hard to believe he sustained such serious injuries so easily, but that's not the point, right?"
──Belta's true identity was that of the leader of the Purge Knights, known as the "best knight," ranked second among them.
"Yes, while that is indeed an issue, the more pressing concern is the Reincarnators behind this incident."
"I see, so it's plural──meaning, the Reincarnators formed a group?"
"A large one, indeed."
Yes, at least 2 Reincarnators were involved in this incident.
One was a Reincarnator with the cheat ability to control a horde of dragons.
The other was a boy Reincarnator with rainbow-colored eyes who had encountered Rai──the Dragon King.
"And the Reincarnator that Rai encountered claimed to be the 'King', strategically luring the Purge Knight into a trap. If Rai had handled this matter alone as usual, we would have been missing a crucial Purge Knight."
With a sigh, she placed her hand on her cheek, lamenting as she spoke.
The appearance of Saint held a picturesque beauty, but Belta spoke without a hint of hesitation.
"What happened to the usual oracle?"
"All I gathered from the oracle was a single reaction. Do you understand what this means?"
"Oh no, I can't grasp it at all."
Belta smiled as she said this.
Saint frowned slightly at her smile, momentarily showing a somewhat annoyed expression, but quickly returned to her usual cheerful demeanor.
"Our opponent possesses a special ability that can deceive my oracle. This means one of our advantages has been taken away."
"I see, then it's likely that we'll face more traps targeting us Purge Knights in the future."
"Therefore, until we can defeat the chief suspect, the Dragon King, I intend to enforce a policy of teamwork among the Purge Knights. Given that the credibility of my oracle has declined, information not reliant on it will become crucial."
"──I understand now; that's why you called on me. Let's deepen our 'roots' more broadly."
"I appreciate it."
With that, Belta finished her tea in one gulp and got up, signaling that their conversation was over.
"Well then, I have official duties, so I'll take my leave."
As he turned to leave, Saint spoke to his back one last time.
"Please give my regards to your uncle."
He did not respond to her words, leaving the garden wrapped in warm light behind.
When his figure completely melted into the darkness, Saint muttered alone in the empty flower garden.
"──The 'Eye of the Rainbow', the 'Attainer'. You've finally appeared."
That murmur drifted unnoticed, carried by the sweet-scented air of the flower garden.
