Volume 2 Chapter 12 ACT.34 Dancing with the Dragon King
"────Reincarnator!!"
Rai readies his sword and shield, saying so.
The Reincarnator with rainbow eyes sees this and laughs merrily.
It was as if the Reincarnator before him, Rai, was nothing but a lowly Purge Knight.
Rai felt a sense of danger.
Rai intuitively knew this Reincarnator was different from all the others he had encountered before.
Rai thought all the Reincarnators he had hunted were formidable opponents, but the monster before him, with the appearance of a young boy, was a whole different breed.
Therefore, he had to be cautious, had to play it safe.
Making the first move was a fool's errand in his current situation.
"Uh, what's wrong, Sir Knight? Aren't you going to do anything? Care to chat?"
Rai, of course, doesn't answer the question.
The boy lets out a small grunt of annoyance at Rai's silence.
Then, with a slightly disgruntled expression, he mutters to himself.
"I didn't think someone would be so inflexible, so difficult to communicate with. Did I pick the wrong person?── Was this a bad choice?"
Saying so, he lets out an expression of obvious disappointment, and looks up at the sky.
Rai, sensing the boy's gaze shift away, instinctively tries to close the distance and lunges forward.
──In an instant, a wave of intense cold shoots up Rai's spine, freezing him in his tracks.
Something streaks past Rai's eyes, carving a deep gash into the ground.
"Kuh!?"
It was an invisible, razor-sharp, and heavy slash.
Rai, having dodged it by a hair's breadth, looks up at the boy with a slightly surprised expression, who claps his hands.
"Hey, dodging that is impressive. You Purge Knights are truly amazing. ──How about this then"
He snaps his fingers, a look of inspiration on his face, and says.
"I'll give you a little taste of pain and get some information out of you. What do you think?"
He casually declares his intention to torture Rai.
As soon as he utters these words, a powerful shockwave suddenly slams into Rai.
"Gah! ──blegh!"
Rai, slammed by the invisible shockwave, spews blood from his mouth and is thrown back with great force.
His armor is twisted and shattered, and with his ragged body, Rai fell on the ground.
"Ugh, ugh, darn it!"
Rai was ashamed of his own incompetence.
He never imagined there would be such a gap in their abilities.
"Ah, I did it. ────Well, you're still breathing, and that's the result of being an overachiever, huh Rai?"
Bragging, the boy approached Rai.
Looking down at Rai, who was covered in serious wounds, he said,
"By the way, I haven't introduced myself yet. ────I'm Dragon King. I'm the one who's going to be the king of reincarnators."
The boy────Dragon King said with a smile, continuing in a voice that didn't convey any hostility.
The reason Dragon King didn't harbor any hostility towards Rai was simple.
────He didn't feel Rai was enough of a threat to warrant it.
"You see, I wanted to know about those so-called Purge Knights who are supposed to be our enemies, so I brought you here. ────What's the organization's size? Its members? Who's the leader? And────, huh?"
He had been speaking smoothly when he suddenly realized something and stopped mid-sentence.
"Oh, he's dead."
