Volume 2 Chapter 11 ACT.33 Town Threat (Ⅳ)
"Haaaah!"
Rize, shouting to encourage herself, swung her shield and sent one of the 8 small dragons flying away.
However, no matter how small they were, their strength was still a threat.
The impact of the blow made her left arm, holding the shield, creak painfully.
Enduring the pain, she carelessly thrust her spear into her blind spot.
At that moment, a dry clink echoed as the tip ricocheted off the floor.
But simultaneously, another dragon attempting to slip into her blind spot was thwarted and stumbled back.
In that instant.
"──!"
Aimed at that one, she instantly flicked her spear and thrust it forward.
She had previously learned from Rai that their bodies were covered in hard scales, making standard attacks non-lethal.
Therefore, her target here was the unprotected spot that could deliver a fatal blow──the eye.
'GAIN!!'
And that strike brilliantly pierced the right eye──penetrating.
The tip reached the brain beneath the cracked skull, causing a fatal injury.
However, that act also pushed her into a perilous situation.
The spear got stuck in the skull and wouldn't come out.
When a long weapon attaches a heavy object to its tip, the wielder becomes immobile.
"This is bad."
In her panic, Rize made a basic mistake, prompting the remaining dragons to charge at her.
They weren't too far apart from each other.
The furious assault of the dragon swarm was enough to raise the specter of 'death' in Rize's heart.
Thus, a side of Rize, which she had not noticed until now, emerged at that moment.
"──You little!!"
As she shouted, she lifted the spear along with the dragon's corpse and swung it forcefully in a wide arc.
She managed to knock 2 of the dragons that pounced at her aside with the shaft of her spear and, using centrifugal force, successfully dislodged the corpse from the tip.
However, there would not be much time left to retrieve the spear.
Therefore, she twisted her body in sync with the spear's circular motion and jumped back dramatically.
With that momentary reprieve and fluid motion using the circular swing of the spear, she controlled the movements of the two approaching dragons.
However, the attack that was thwarted accounted for 4 of them.
The remaining 3 charged at Rize one after another.
One of them sank its teeth into Rize's right arm, where he held the spear.
The armor, which should have been sturdy, crumpled in an instant as the fangs bit into his arm.
Rize gritted his teeth against the pain, steeling himself for the two incoming attacks when it happened.
──Suddenly, the dragon's biting force vanished.
"──Huh?"
Rize then realized.
It wasn't just the creature that had bitten his arm; all of them had stopped moving.
The one that had clamped down on his arm released its jaws and retreated with the others.
──Swiftly running into the darkness deep within the waterway, they disappeared.
For a moment, Rize stood there, stunned by their strange behavior, but he quickly remembered.
"S-Senior!"
It was clear that something had happened to the Reincarnator who was commanding the dragons.
If that were the case, something must have happened to Rai, whom he had sent ahead.
"Senior──"
Saying this, she began to walk towards the light behind her, protecting her injured arm.
──And what she saw inside the makeshift dwelling she reached was.
"──No! Senior Rai!!"
His form lay on the ground, bleeding profusely from the gaps in his pitch-black armor that represented the Purge Knight.
