"──The secret passage underground. So, the Reincarnator must be somewhere here."
"No, probably right here."
Saying that, Rai points to a spot on the map.
What lay beyond the point he indicated was──.
"Here, there's a simple dwelling for the administrator. If we tamper with it a bit, we might be able to..."
At those words, Rize quietly swallows.
Now that we understand what's going on, there's only one thing to do.
"As soon as we finish breakfast, we move in."
* * *
"──It's quiet, isn't it?"
The two advance along the path, relying on a faint light, but the underground sewer is quieter than they imagined.
The sound of water barely drowns out the clanking of their armor, but there's no other strange noise at all.
"I thought some of those dragons would be patrolling the area, so I was prepared for a fight, but it feels like there's no one around."
"They must have absolute confidence in hiding here. Or there could be a reason they can't──Turn off the light."
Suddenly told that by Rai, Rize hurriedly extinguishes the light.
Then Rai silently points toward the back of the waterway, at a corner.
From that corner, a faint light was peeking──probably from their intended destination.
Even though it should be an unused facility, the light is on.
The reason is clear──someone is using it.
With his back against the corner wall, Rai peeks around.
Beyond the light, there was the simple dwelling they were looking for.
And around it, there were 8 small dragons waiting.
"──Bullseye."
Saying that, Rize quietly catches her breath.
Alongside, Rai readjusts his helmet and says,
"When I give the signal, rush in all at once. Ignore those dragons as much as possible and secure the Reincarnator inside."
"Secure, huh? Not kill?"
"Yeah, before we finish them off, there are some things I want to ask."
"Understood──I'm ready anytime."
Hearing Rize's response, Rai calms his breath and prepares himself.
Then, steeling himself, he steps forward.
"Let's go!!"
"Yes!!"
Saying that, the two brace their shields and charge forward.
The dragons, who sensed the sudden presence of the two, immediately gathered and swiftly attacked.
Rai and the others were dodging, weaving, and occasionally swatting away the attacks with their shields, never slowing down for a second.
But the dragons they deflected quickly recovered and attacked again.
At that moment, Rize turned and faced away from Rai, stopping in her tracks.
"I'll hold them off here, Senpai!"
"──I'm counting on you."
With those words, Rai ran.
And when he kicked open the door of the dwelling and rushed inside──
Everything changed.
Rai was sure he had entered the simple dwelling for the administrator──or so he thought.
But what awaited him was a blue sky.
And a gently breezy meadow.
"──What?"
Something was off, Rai was speechless.
This was supposed to be underground, inside a cramped simple dwelling.
But where was he?
Rai panicked and tried to move his head to look around.
Suddenly──.
"──Well, hello there."
A voice spoke right next to his ear.
His spine froze instantly, and he immediately turned around and jumped back.
"Oh, did I startle you?"
The one who spoke so kindly was a boy.
A black-haired boy wearing a white hooded.
But there was something strange about that boy that was different from the norm.
The iridescent light of his eyes and the scale-like mark around his eyes.
"Who are you?"
He didn't understand this situation or the boy at all, but Rai understood one thing.
The boy in front of him was probably──.
"──A Reincarnator!!"
