Volume 2 Chapter 1 Prologue: At a Certain Tavern
'The fierce clash of blades is like a harbinger of good news, as the young black lion hunts down the evil heretics. The obsidian blade slices through the moonlight, and the wretched demons vanish like dew──'
In a particular tavern in the southern town, a melodious voice resonates.
A traveling bard, using a beautiful tenor and an accordion, plays out an epic tale.
──No, it's said to be an epic, but it's a bit different from the usual.
Because the subject is a person who is still alive today.
'──Oh, Purge Knight. Oh, Purge Knight. Noble knight destined to defeat demons and scatter amidst the frenzy of blades. Warriors who continue to fight until the day of peace arrives!'
The bard's skill in storytelling is exceptional, and everyone is attentively listening to his tale.
He secretly thinks that it seems like a good earning this time.
──However, among the crowd, he spots a large man wearing a terribly displeased expression.
A massive figure clad in what looks like armor made of flesh, with short-cropped blonde hair.
Leaning against a nearby wall is an intimidatingly large battle axe, likely belonging to the man.
While continuing his song, the bard thinks it might be bad news.
Given his profession, it's not uncommon to deal with trouble and be extorted for money.
He knows some self-defense, but there's no way he can win against a man of that size.
Should I just escape right away?
Just as he begins to sweat with that thought, the big man clicks his tongue loudly and leaves the tavern, shouldering the battle axe.
Following behind him is a small figure wearing a hood, seemingly his companion.
As the bard watches the two leave, he feels relieved inside and sings out his song.
'Knights adorned in the armor of the night sky, may you continue to protect us!'

Once they arrive at an empty alley, the hooded boy speaks up.
"What's wrong, Shigi? Why did you suddenly dash out of there?"
"──Sorry, Captain. I got a little annoyed."
The blonde giant, Shigi, apologizes to the small boy in the hood who followed him.
The sight of the large man bowing to the boy must have looked quite comical to onlookers.
However, for these two, this was the way it should be, the normal state of affairs.
"That bard, of all people, had the nerve to talk about the Purge Knights, those who have slaughtered many of us!!"
With that, Shigi kicked a nearby pebble with all his might.
The pebble flew sharply and made a dent in the stone wall.
"Stop it, taking things out on random objects is your bad habit."
"──Ussu."
Shigi looked down, seeming embarrassed as he said that.
It was just at that moment.
"Yay, Shigi's getting scolded again!"
The boy, who had been speaking with an intellectual tone, suddenly started talking in a childish──much younger than his actual age──way.
"Shut up, you brat! The boss is in the middle of talking!!"
Now, he shifted to yelling in a fierce voice like a hot-headed punk.
"One, 4, calm down! The boss and Shigi-kun are worried, you know?"
Furthermore, he began speaking with a melodramatic tone, emphasizing the situation.
"Mr. T-Tsu, thank you!"
"──Thanks, Tsu. Now we can talk calmly."
Saying that, the boy returned to his original intellectual tone.
"Sorry for being so noisy."
"N-No problem at all!"
Then, the boy cleared his throat and continued.
"Alright, let's do our best with our recruitment efforts, so we don't lose to the Purge Knights."
The boy pulled up his hood and smiled meaningfully.
He had ordinary black hair, but his eyes were an unbelievable rainbow color, with dragon scale marks around them.
"Let's do our best, for our [country]."
