Volume 1 Chapter 13 ACT.12 The Reincarnator of the Wolf Beast (III)
While the base of its body is that of a wolf, its eyes are compound and it has 8 legs.
A hideous creature resembling a demon from mythology was standing in front of the carriage, blocking the way.
Of course, such a creature does not exist in this world.
In other words, these creatures are──.
"──Artificial beings created by the Reincarnator with a cheat (special ability)!"
'I see, if something like this is hanging around, then safety is definitely out of the question.'
Before he knew it, Leone, now wearing a helm, stood next to Rai, who was readying his shield and sword.
'Normally, I would have left everything to Rai, but this is just outrageous from the very start. ──So, I'll lend a hand.'
The moment Rai heard those words, Leone's figure vanished from beside him.
In the next instant, the body of the closest artificial creature was ripped apart, and a dramatic splash of blood erupted.
Unable to even scream, the creature perished beside Leone, who had swung her double axes.
Leone Godwin.
She was the only female Purge Knight and was renowned as the fastest knight, showcasing a glimpse of her tremendous skill.
Then, in a fluid motion, she swung her blade down on the next artificial creatures one after another.
This flawless movement, devoid of waste, was like a beautifully executed dance.
'Guuu...!'
Finally, after taking down the third artificial creature, it seemed they understood the gravity of the situation.
Taking some distance from Leone, one of them let out a loud roar and dashed into the mountains.
'Rai, chase that one! The Reincarnator should be there!'
"Understood!"
With that, Rai started to run, but the remaining 2 artificial creatures tried to block his path.
He dodged the first one, which leaped at him, by using his shield to push it up and out of the way, then swung his sword to keep the second at bay, taking the chance to run with all his might.
'Gaaaaaa!!'
Just as Leone stood in the way of the two who tried to give chase,
'I'm your opponent!'
With that, she grinned within her helm.
* * *
And while Leone is holding them off, Rai sprints away.
The slope of the mountain is forested, and the uneven ground, already difficult to run on, is made worse by the roots of trees, making it nearly impossible for an average armored knight to run properly.
However, Rai moves through it with the speed as if he were running on flat ground.
This ability to cope with such an unfavorable terrain had been meticulously taught to him by Aslan.
According to Aslan, "Knights should not train to always be ready in perfect condition, but rather to be able to fight under any adverse circumstances."
What matters is not preparing for the best, but mastering the worst.
Under that educational policy, for Rai, who had undergone intense training in all sorts of unfavorable environments, this kind of footing was hardly even a challenge.
He follows behind the artificial creature in front of him, keeping a certain distance.
Then, at the moment he passed right next to a large tree, Rai sensed an intense killing intent.
Instinctively feeling the direction of the threat──he raised his shield above him.
Immediately afterward, his shield shook from a strong impact.
Above him, a man hidden in the large tree lunged down, attacking with a sword in hand.
"──Ah!"
The man, whose surprise attack was thwarted, didn't attempt a series of follow-up attacks; instead, he jumped back sharply to gauge Rai's movements.
The man who appeared had a strange appearance, wearing a wolf's pelt over his head.
In his hand, he held a rusty and battered one-handed sword.
With caution at the sudden appearance of the man, Rai adjusted his shield and shouted.
"You are Sasaki Kazuma!"
At that voice, the man instantly became enraged.
As if he had been reminded of something detestable.
"──Why do you know my former name?!"
Hearing those words from the wolfman──Reincarnator Sasaki Kazuma──Rai quietly laughed.
"So it's you! You're the Reincarnatorrr!!"
In that moment, Rai could no longer contain his emotions──his boiling rage.
Like he was unleashing the hatred that had smoldered for so long, he charged toward the man.
