"Wow, I never thought Mr. Aslan and his apprentice would have such a cute kid!"
"Well, being called cute is a bit much for me personally."
"Come on, guys, boys stop being cute so quickly, so let's enjoy this cute moment while we can!"
The cart, disguised as a traveling merchant with Rai and Leone hidden in the back, moves along the mountain road.
The group, having departed from Benetonash early in the morning, was traveling on the mountain road east of Benetonash──one of the valuable trade routes.
After a few hours of departure, Rai, who had been enduring Leone's relentless barrage of questions and high-energy talk, began to feel slightly exasperated when the driver, Alfonso, spoke up.
"Hey, Leone. As fun as the nonsense is, we're about to reach the location. Get ready and confirm the details of this mission."
"Yes, yes, we're already in our armor and ready, so let's just do a quick situation check."
With that, Leone turned to Rai and prompted him to confirm the details of their mission.
"Alright, this mission is to eliminate the Reincarnator Sasaki Kazuma, confirmed by the oracle of the saint."
Rai replied with a slightly tense and serious expression.
"The location specified by the oracle is this mountain road. Given that many traveling merchants have gone missing here for about 3 days, it's highly likely that the Reincarnator is hiding here and doing something."
"Yeah, that's right. It's possible that the attackers are just bandits, but since the oracle has never been wrong before, it seems like there's some connection either way. What do we do about the attackers?"
"If they have no connection to the Reincarnator, we neutralize them. If there's even a slight chance of a connection, we purge them as heretics."
"Got it, you understand well. Just to confirm, someone's life will be taken by Rai from now on, but do you have any hesitation about that?"
With a bright smile, Leone gently asked Rai.
──Yes, what we are about to do is, in a sense, murder.
He wonders what the opponent is like, but he understands that a human life is precious.
The weight of it can affect and change the life of the person who carries it.
That's why, as a final confirmation, Leone told Rai.
"Are you ready?"
"──Huh"
Hearing that question, Rai's expression changed.
He muttered softly and a dark smile spread across his face.
"There's no hesitation, on the contrary, *I'm so happy*. It's the only thing that matters."
"Happy?"
Leone questioned him, and Rai answered, his voice trembling as if he was suppressing an inner rage.
"Five years, 5 years. All I've wanted was to kill them, the Reincarnators. That's all I've lived for.──Finally, it's coming true."
Rai laughed.
It was a hateful laugh that would make anyone watching scream in terror.
Leone also laughed, seeing Rai's smile.
"Well then, that's good──If you hesitated at *this point*, I would have cut you *down here* without *hesitation*."
Hearing those words, Rai's innermost self felt a chill.
As someone with the cheat (special ability) of mind reading, I can understand what the other person is thinking.
That's why I understood.
This woman, Leone Godwin, if she had shown any hesitation now, she would have truly killed Rai.
The Rai she had cherished until now, with a smile and without hesitation.
That's why I understood.

Alfonso, who was holding the reins of the horse outside, breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing that.

Alfonso saw something──or rather, someone──running down the slope on the right side of the mountain road.
He slammed on the brakes of the carriage and shouted to the two people in the back.
"Guests are arriving! It's time to work!!"
"Understood!!"
The two men grabbed their weapons and jumped out of the back of the carriage and stood in front of it.
Finally, something emerges, sliding down the slope.
"What on earth are these things!?"
The something was a grotesque group of monsters that looked like a mix between wolves and spiders.
