Volume 2 Chapter 46 I Didn't Mean to Fall, Seriously!

"...Hey, the spikes are glowing all over. What do you think that means?"

The spikes that explode when they fall are glowing without dropping.

Plus, the mother dragon staring us down.

Even though I understood the answer that was deduced, I asked the others with my throat dry as a bone.

 "...They're gonna explode, right?"

'And she's planning to take us down with her.'

"...You've come to the same conclusion as me, after all."

While we were having that carefree exchange──the mother dragon seized the moment and charged at us without hesitation.

 At full speed.

 "Get to the sky!"

 'Roger that!'

 "Aaah!"

Responding to my shout, Flamme also began to ascend at full speed.

 Lene couldn't help but scream.

Whoops, Lene's proud emerald hair falls across her face!

We could have escaped to the side, but our movement was limited to the saltwater lake.

If the mother dragon veered off course and crashed into the forest, a massive fire would be inevitable.

However, it was clear that the dragon was faster.

Despite looking pained, perhaps due to the damage to its Magic Core, it was incredibly fast, as if exerting its last strength.

At this rate, we would be caught.

Then, I'll do what I can.

"Lene, do you have any fast-acting poison that could affect a dragon!?"

"E, eh!? W, well, I do have some for oral administration... but it won't hit the target in the sky with the strong crosswinds!"

 Indeed, she had a point.

The wind was howling up there, and a light vial would likely be blown off course.

 But──

"Give it to me if you have it! I'll make it work! Quickly!"

 "O, okay!"

Whether it was from my fierce presence or not, Lene fumbled through her magic bag and quickly handed me a potion bottle.

Whoa, what an indescribable color this is.

It certainly looks like it could do the trick.

It's frightening to think this was made in the same workshop.

"How exactly do you plan on using this!? She's almost catching up to us!.. Wait, what are you planning to do, Mr. Ryuuji?"

Lene gasped for breath due to the thin air and asked, but I was too busy securing the safety harness around my waist to respond.

So all I can say right now is this.

 "Here, hold onto this!"

I shoved my magic bag into Lene's hands, tied one end of the safety line to a horn on Flamme's back, and stood up.

Then, I kicked off from that massive back, beginning my descent toward the mother dragon.

Behind me, the two of them were yelling about something, but I couldn't hear them over the strong wind.

Ignoring them was the best move since there's no way to address complaints at this point.

The mother dragon, noticing my presence, shook her head as if to say I was no threat, trying to flick me off with her snout.

"Not so fast... that's not happening!"

With the strength enhanced by the Magic Stone of Fyrel, I firmly grasped the protruding tip of her snout with my right hand.

The mother dragon continued to shake her head, trying to throw me off, but I refused to let go.

In the meantime, I skillfully loosened my waistline with just one hand and grabbed the potion bottle.

There was no need to open the cap.

I'll use it just as it is.

 "Whoa! The strength...!"

It seemed the effect of the Magic Stone of Fyrel faded after grabbing the object, and my strength started to diminish, nearly causing me to fall.

But this is where I must dig in!

"This is Lene's special poison! Enjoy the taste!"

Shouting that, I kicked the dragon's head, and I slammed the bottle of medicine hard into the mother dragon's mouth.

With that, I hurriedly started climbing up the rope.

Just then, the mother dragon, with its neck stiffened, suddenly lost speed and began to fall.

 And then──

 "Whoaaa!?"

A deafening roar pierced the air, and I was shaken violently by the blast wind from below.

But I couldn't let go of the rope.

 If I let go, I'd fall──

 "...ah"

A shard from the blast wind flew by and grazed my safety line, and I couldn't help but let out a silly shout.
