Volume 2 Chapter 41 Seeking the Way to Fly
A little behind the big tree where we were hiding, the Knight Order had set up their battle formation as planned.
I had a pretty good idea how Adiliana would move from how she'd acted up to now.
And just as expected, Adiliana descended in front of the Knight Order with 2 dragons.
They were huge.
Their wings were pretty impressive, and the parent dragon was about ten meters tall, while the child dragon was about 6 meters.
"Oh my, I thought Sartzstadt had already been destroyed, but the Knight Order even came to help. You're putting up quite the fight~."
Does she think she's hot stuff with these dragons, Adiliana is looking down on the Knight Order while riding the golden one and letting out a big sigh.
"...Oh? But enchanter Ryuuji isn't here~. Isn't he participating in the defense? Or, did he die already?"
Swallowing the words "He's not dead," Lene and I start moving, still hidden.
Our goal is the feet of the child dragon in front of us.
"So you're the Dark Mage Adiliana. That Evil God's arm the other day was an interesting present. It seems you've come up with something new this time, too."
"...Oh, 〈Steel King〉. Honestly, I never thought you'd survive God Abnella's arm. What kind of trick did you use?"
Adiliana's voice tone seems to drop a bit.
Does she have some kind of connection with 〈Steel King〉?
Lene and I were strolling along, quiet as a church mouse, until we reached the baby dragon's left foreleg.
The magic stone was already in Lene's right hand.
We were ready to roll.
"You'll see soon enough. Just you wait and see."
"Oh, this is scary. But, you're about to get burnt to a crisp before I see the trick~, aren't I?"
With that, Adiliana turned to the baby dragon on the left and shouted, "Do it!"
She was going to make the baby dragon breathe fire (fire breath).
...It was now or never.
"Lene, I'm counting on you."
"Yes."
Lene pressed the magic stone in her right palm against the baby dragon's right foreleg.
Lene used Magic Power, so the Spirit magic that hid our forms would have been dispelled, but I didn't care.
At that moment, the baby dragon, which was about to breathe fire, vanished.
"Huh!?"
It was, of course, Adiliana who let out a dumbfounded cry.
And seeing us, she gradually grew angry.
"Enchanter Ryuuji...Lady Lene, too! What did you do!"
I didn't respond to her shout, instead, I aimed the Alchemist's Gun.
My target wasn't Adiliana, but the parent dragon.
If it was just the Dark Mage, we could deal with her later.
"In the name of Ryuuji, become a blade that pierces through anything, 〈Sharpness〉!"
"Fly! Right now!"
Adiliana, sensing the danger, ordered, and the golden magic dragon spread its wings and ascended.
I felt a massive amount of Magic Power from above.
They say dragons fly by infusing their wings with Magic Power, so it was true.
Withstanding the storm caused by the flapping of wings, I pulled the trigger.
The bullet, enhanced by the <Magic Stone of Elmusca>'s <Sharpness>, was fired, piercing the golden dragon's chest in an impossible trajectory.
The dragon let out a deep, mournful cry, but despite the blood flowing from its chest, it obeyed Adiliana's command and took to the sky.
Did I miss the mark?
Loading the second round into the Alchemist's Gun, I saw the dragon was already high in the sky.
...At that distance, a shot wouldn't do any damage.
"Got away, huh?"
The <Steel King>, approaching us, looked up at the sky and groaned in disappointment.
"Sorry, one hit wasn't enough."
"Can't be helped. No one knows where the dragon's Magic Core is."
With those comforting words, the <Steel King> patted my slumped shoulder.
Still, we can't leave that dragon be.
"...Hey, wait...is it heading towards the town!?"
Startled by someone's words, I looked up to see Adiliana's golden dragon slowly moving towards the town.
That beast, is it aiming for us or directly for the town!?
"This is bad...! Aiming with the Alchemist's Gun──"
"At this distance, even with Mr. Ryuuji's enhancement, it's not powerful enough! If we could shoot from the sky, it'd be different..."
"No use talking about what we can't do! Everyone, hurry to the town!"
Essentially dismissing Lene's words as impossible, the 'Steel King' promptly issued his command.
Is it too late to avoid a catastrophe?
...Wait, what did Lene say?
'From the sky'?
"...That's it! Lene, lend me the 'Magic Stone of Sealing' that trapped the young dragon!"
"Huh!? W-what are you planning to do!?"
"Just do it! I'll explain later!"
Just moments ago, I snatched the 'Magic Stone of Sealing' that Lene used to trap the young dragon from her bewildered grasp.
The magic stone that vanquished the dragon was one that typically seals away creatures like slimes.
Now that Adiliana is out of range and the 'Godslayer' power is inactive, I can use a 'gift' magic stone other than the 'Magic Stone of Elmusca'!
And with this method, we might just be able to target the sky dragon.
