Volume 2 Chapter 38 Who Said It's a Good Start, It Was Me
"An ogre is coming from the right! Damn it! The right flank, the Shield Brigade, move to the front! Don't let them touch the Magician Squad!"
"On the left flank, there's a giant Goblin! Looks like a hero level!"
"Whether it's a hero or not, the Shield Brigade needs to engage! Don't let them through!"
"We don't have enough shields! Request reinforcements from the backline!"
"No good! The rear is also in combat! I need the frontline to grant defense to the melee troops on the left!"
"Understood!"
"Those who are seriously injured, don't hesitate to use healing potions! Don't hold back!"
Three days after our frontline defense team barely fended off the first wave of the stampede, the night took a turn and became hell on earth.
I was a fool to think it was a good start.
Well, of course, I had anticipated it, but these humanoid monsters weren't going to just charge in blindly.
However, they were coming at us in numbers and varieties beyond our expectations.
I never thought they'd have an ogre among them.
Normally, a Third Rank adventurer would be handling this.
I'm fully deploying the Magic Stone of Elmusca, casting buffs from a distance.
Thanks to Lene's Magic Power healing potions, my Magic Power is holding out, but I'm feeling it physically and mentally hard.
I'm focusing to avoid mistakes from fatigue, but I've already far exceeded my limits.
"In the name of Ryuuji, grant me the power to restore everything this person possesses! <Restoration>!"
I'm constantly using 'Repair' to keep the object from falling apart, but the armor, which has taken a beating, will break the moment the enchantment wears off.
That means I have to keep 'Repair' going until this fight is over.
Someone get an enchanter, for crying out loud!
But... it wasn't just my imagination, after all.
The grass around my feet is dying.
Not only that, but the ground is cracking too.
...Could this be a side effect of the 'Magic Stone of Elmusca'?
These 'gift' magic stones always have a catch.
I forgot about that.
I guess it probably sucks the power out of the earth or something.
I'll have to be more careful when I use it from now on.
Well... that is, if I even make it out of here alive.

"HYAAAAH!"
While our allies are falling, Minori is screaming and effortlessly slicing through Hobgoblins and Goblin Heroes.
She's soaked in blood, so I can only tell by her voice.
And then there is Suzu, who is up in a watchtower, casting a wide-area defense magic while simultaneously using high-level magic to snipe distant enemies with 'Gungnir' - a freaking multi-cast.
I thought those 2 were worth about 30 people, but I might have to revise that estimate to a hundred.
But, sadly, with our allies falling, there's less stuff to enchant, so it's getting easier.
The front lines are about to be breached.
"Squad leader! Requesting permission to retreat to the second defense line!"
"The rear is under attack too! If they break through here, your flank will be exposed!"
The squad leader and lieutenant of the Great Shield Squad are going back and forth every minute or so.
It's a pretty grueling situation.
Many are falling down due to delayed granting and recovery, and I think this is the limit──but no matter what, retreat is not permitted.
"Left wing, breached! Watch your back!"
"...Uh oh!"
At the sound of that desperate shout, I quickly raised my Alchemist's Gun in my right hand, aiming it at the Goblin Hero charging towards the magician squad from the left, and pulled the trigger.
The target's brow was pierced, and he kept charging forward, collapsing with a thud.
"Thanks, I'm saved!"
"We'll talk later! Back us up on the left wing!"
Having been saved from certain death, the female magician looked relieved, but the left wing was already in shambles with many warriors fallen.
At any moment, Goblins and Orcs could be swarming in like an avalanche.
If that many came, there was no telling what would happen.
At least if reinforcements arrived, things would be different...
"...Huh?"
I narrowed my eyes, noticing something strange about the way the Goblins and Orcs were moving.
It was hard to see in the dim light, but...
"...They're falling down? And on their own?"
No mistake.
Both Goblins and Orcs were foaming at the mouth, writhing in agony as they collapsed.
The melee warriors on the left wing didn't seem to be affected, looking confused.
"This is like...poison? But where did it come from?"
"You got it, Mr. Ryuuji. I spread poison with wind magic."
At that familiar voice, I almost forgot I was in the middle of a battle and instinctively turned my head.
There shouldn't be anyone around here.
Yet there was Lene.
Behind her, Mr. Galdun was pulling a cart loaded with ammunition and supplies.
Did he come all the way to the battlefield?
"...Lene"
"Yes."
The young elf alchemist's face relaxed, a look of relief washing over him.
He must have been soothed to find me and my sisters alive.
It's really good that we got to meet again while we're still alive.
And it wasn't just Lene.
Following behind, the Beistein Kingdom's knight brigade had also rushed over.
This was────
"We've come as reinforcements from the capital! You've held up well! We'll take it from here, so just hang tight until we can relieve you!"
The captain of the squad from the capital shouted out in encouragement.
