Volume 2 Chapter 17 the Thinking of Cult Members Cannot Be Measured by Common Sense
Following Lene, I arrived at a dead-end alley.
For some reason, her figure was nowhere to be seen.
Waiting there instead was a woman I didn't know, with crimson hair and wearing a thinly veiled, revealing outfit.
She looked at me with a satisfied expression, haughtily staring down.
"Welcome, enchanter Ryuuji. I'm glad you accepted my invitation."
"You're not Lene in disguise... are you? Where did Lene go?"
Clearly, the quality of her magic power was different from the Lene from earlier.
This person is someone else.
"Well, she's not here, you see."
"If she entered here, then doesn't that mean you're the one hiding her?"
"How dreadful, and your tone is incredibly impolite."
Chuckling softly, the woman smiled.
Well, it's likely that this person is responsible for Lene's strange behavior.
It might be better to stop engaging in conversation with her.
"First, let me introduce myself. I'm Adiliana, the Dark Mage who forms a pair with Ferron."
Lowering her grandly raised hand, Adiliana gracefully bowed.
Ah, it's her.
Unlike Ferron, she has a sunny disposition, but fundamentally, she seems like the sort who would suit the word "disagreeable."
"...So you're a Dark Mage after all. That tentacle was your doing too, wasn't it? You went and ruined the ship I carefully made."
"Oh my, making accusations without any evidence. It's hard to believe someone who practices Enchant magic, which is both magical and a natural science, would say such things~ isn't it?"
Unlike the poison that has taken hold of me, Adiliana provokes me with a smirk on her lips.
I shouldn't engage in this conversation, yet here we are.
"...I want Lene back, and I want it now."
"Not a chance. To be honest, I didn't even hide her in the first place... right?"
"Whoa!"
Adiliana released a golden needle infused with Magic Power toward my face, but I easily deflected it with my staff.
Normally, just throwing a needle wouldn't pierce my skin, but the needle enhanced by Magic Power could easily break through my defenses.
That's dangerous.
That's quite the power to breach my <Absolute>.
"Is that a needle containing magic crystals? Do you intend to turn me into a fiend?"
"That was my intention, but it seems it's not going as planned."
Despite her plans going awry, Adiliana shrugs her shoulders mockingly at me.
Given this attitude, she must still be hiding something.
I can't let my guard down.
But why do both Ferron and this woman target me?
Ferron claimed that the 'gift' magic stone I create is dangerous, but could Adiliana have the same reason?
"Why are you aiming for me?"
"You're quite straightforward with your questions. Haven't you heard from Ferron?"
"It's possible your motives differ."
As I carefully draw out my words, Adiliana watches me with a look of mild interest.
It feels like I'm being evaluated in some way.
"Surprisingly thoughtful of you. Well, I'll answer... the reason I'm after you is the same as Ferron's──your magic stone is dangerous."
I see.
So, it seems that despite being a Dark Mage with the power to slay gods, she is actually afraid of the 'gift' magic stone that holds divine powers.
I'm curious as to why, but Ferron didn't tell me.
I wonder if the woman in front of me will straightforwardly tell me.
"...However, from our conversation just now, I have developed a slight interest in you."
"......What?"
It's not particularly a joy to be taken interest in by a Dark Mage.
Still, if I continue this dialogue, I might understand what these beings fear about my power.
"Enchanter Ryuuji, you should become a servant of the Evil God."
I was thinking that, but this woman started to say something outrageous.
"...Are you telling me to become the enemy of the world?"
"Oh my, that's quite an exaggeration."
In contrast to her earlier laid-back demeanor, Adiliana began to speak seriously to me.
"Moreover, when I say 'enemy of the world,' I'm not referring to Abnella. It is the other gods, besides Abnella, who are the true enemies of the world."
"........."
As expected of an Evil God and their servant who possesses the power to slay gods, they are incredibly exclusive and utterly insane.
I found myself taken aback.
The fact that she said this casually makes it even worse.
It seems that the thoughts of heretical cultists cannot be measured with ordinary sensibilities.
I was foolish for even considering some concession to draw out information, even for a moment.
"I'm sorry, but I can't understand that perspective. You should give up on the idea of me becoming a servant of the Evil God."
After saying that dismissively, I pulled out my dagger from my pocket and got ready.
If it comes to close combat, I would prefer to use the Magic stone of Fyrel for a brawl, but unfortunately, she is a Dark Mage and has the power to slay gods.
I cannot use the 'gift' magic stone.
Adiliana sighed, saying "What a pity..." as she threw her needle again.
It was a rough yet precise throw, which made it easy to deflect.
"No matter how many times you do this, it's pointless──"
The moment I started to say that.
I felt something being taken from the magic stone hanging at my waist, and something pierced into my back.
