Volume 1 Chapter 29 I Can't Forgive, I Will Never Forgive
Ten days after leaving Sartzstadt, we finally arrived in Bechemar.
The moment we stepped off the carriage, we rushed toward the Adventurers' Guild.
I prayed we weren't too late.
"Quit screwing around, damn it! Spit it out!"
Guy's enraged voice boomed from inside. A loud thud followed, the sound of something—or someone—being slammed into the floor.
Minori didn't hesitate.
Expressionless, she stepped forward and pushed open the guild's front door.
Inside the tavern space—
"Hey, Guy. Just stop it already. Didn't they tell you to quit making a scene?"
"Y-yeah, Leader, we could seriously get killed if this keeps up!"
Marie and Sean stood hesitantly nearby, unwilling—or unable—to intervene.
At Guy's feet, something lay motionless.
No... not something.
Someone.
Minori's voice, devoid of emotion, rang through the guild.
"...You really did it, Guy."
"Huh!? ...Wait, Minori!? You're back?!"
His face lit up in pure delight, like a fool who believed he'd won some kind of prize.
Under normal circumstances, sure. Maybe he'd have every right to be happy.
The person he was obsessed with had returned.
But not after he'd just stomped on our sister's head.
"Magic! Bind that guy's body with strings! <Bind>!"
Before Guy could react, magical ropes coiled around him, forcing him to the ground.
The weight pressing down on Suzu was gone, and he trembled—perhaps realizing, for the first time, what it felt like to be the one pinned down.
Minori immediately knelt beside Suzu and pulled her into a tight embrace.
Her small body trembled.
Her long black hair was matted with blood.
Her face was swollen.
I checked her pulse. Weak, but steady.
Relief barely touched me.
Because I would never forgive this.
I would never forgive him.
"What you've done, Ryuuji."
"...What do you mean, what have I done?"Guy sneered.
Minori remained silent. Her hands trembled as she held Suzu, anger simmering beneath the surface.
I spoke again, my voice low—so low it startled even me.
"Lene, take care of Suzu."
"Yes!"
Lene immediately got to work, pulling out her medicine to treat Suzu's wounds.
But no amount of healing would erase what had just happened.
What he had done to my sister.
Inside me, something seethed.
Guy, still acting like this was all some joke, sneered again.
"What's your problem, Ryuuji? You think a Third Rank enchanter like you can take on me?"
He still measured strength in ranks and titles.
He still didn't understand.
I had no interest in arguing.
I simply handed my staff to Minori, lowered my stance, and prepared to fight.
Even Guy, in all his dullness, sensed the shift in the air.
His smirk faltered.
He reached for his sword.
Then—
"That's enough."
"Huh...??"
Before Guy could react, a fork pressed lightly against his throat.
His body went rigid.
None of us had seen the man move.
...As expected of Mr. Emin, the former First Rank adventurer, once the strongest swordsman in Deahr Kingdom.
Even I hadn't noticed his approach.
"Hey, Guy. Didn't I warn you? If you caused any more trouble, I'd demote you to Third Rank."
Guy paled.
"G-Guild Master, it wasn't me! It was him...!"
Even as Lene frantically worked to heal Suzu—evidence of his crime right before everyone's eyes—he still tried to shift the blame.
Mr. Emin narrowed his eyes, considering something.
Then, with a sigh, he straightened and spoke.
"In that case... Ryuuji, Guy. Both of you, get out and duel."
"I'll be the referee."
