Volume 1 Chapter 26 Even as My Sister, She Says Stylish Things

After sealing the slime into a fresh <Magic Stone of Sealing>, we were investigating the golden bear's true form."Hah...ha... Finally, the Magic Core..."

 "Good work, Minori."

Minori, her hands sticky with blood and grease, handed me the Magic Core with a tearful look.

The golden bear's hide was incredibly tough, so naturally, extracting the Magic Core from its chest was a struggle.

We likely couldn't have dismembered it without <Pierce> imbued with <Sharpness>."That's a large Magic Core. What exactly was this bear?"

 "I don't know. Aside from its color and size, it's a <Lesser Grizzly>..."

Lady Cecil and Lene gazed intently at the Magic Core, which was about the size of a baby's head, resting in My right palm.

As Her Highness said, we don't often see a Magic Core this big.

Lene said that the <Lesser Grizzly> is a relatively small type of bear commonly seen in a wide area of the southern continent.

Its color isn't golden, but a dark brown, or something like that.

"Diet, just to confirm, have you heard of any sightings of such a demon beast?"

"...No, not at all. If there were, it would be the kind of existence that would warrant a squad's dispatch for subjugation."

Lady Cecil and Mr. Dietrich, both say they have never heard of it.

"So, should we consider it a new species of demon beast?"

If it's recently become a demon beast....A Magic Power spot strong enough to turn a bear into a demon beast?I've never heard of such a thing..."

I grumble as I search my memory for similar occurrences, but I've never heard anything like it.

I don't recall ever seeing it on the Adventurer's Guild request board in Sartzstadt either.

It's rare for a mere beast to absorb strong Magic Power and become a demon beast.

But for a beast to become a demon beast, it needs to continuously bathe in Magic Power.

I've heard stories of small beasts that absorbed Magic Power from a place called a "Magic Power spot" – a natural location that emits Magic Power.

Over time, they absorbed enough to become demon beasts.

However, a bear that large would need a massive amount of Magic Power for its heart to become a Magic Core.

If it was only given a small amount, it would likely die from Magic Power poisoning.

 That's how it ends.

Such a big demon beast couldn't possibly exist.

"...Perhaps this is related after all..."

Lene murmured as she looked at a charred needle wrapped in cloth, placed in her palm.

The needle was burnt because of Lene's medicines, but it was stuck in the bear's chest.

"I can clearly feel Magic Power... If Lene hadn't noticed, I might have missed it."

There's no way a simple needle could hold Magic Power.

So this must be some kind of magical item like a magic stone, or what's known as a cursed object.

There's a fair chance that it was this needle that turned a mere bear into a demon beast.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we're...willing to let you buy this needle and the Magic Core, if you're interested?"

They must take the situation quite seriously.

Lady Cecil offered to do so for the sake of the investigation.

We have no reason to keep these if they're not worth any money.

If Her Highness is willing to buy them, that would be a great help.

"Lene, Minori, is that alright with you?"

 "Yes, of course."

"It's fine, Lady Cecil. Oh, but..."

 "But?"

Minori raised a bloodstained finger to the puzzled-looking Lady Cecil.

"We took it down as a party of 5, so as adventurers, we should split the profit."

Lady Cecil and Mr. Dietrich, who had been opening their mouths in unison, burst out laughing at the same time.

"...Pfft, ahaha, that's right! Splitting the profits in the party!"

Her Highness seemed genuinely amused as she laughed and replied.

"Still, Ms. Lene, that potion had incredible power...? An ordinary alchemist couldn't have made something like that."

"Oh, no, Mr. Dietrich. That was thanks to Mr. Ryuuji's enhancement."

"It was already powerful on its own, but adding the vertical <Whirlwind> made it even more terrifying..., you really have to consider how to use it."

As we talked about such things, we made our way back home.

By the way, the materials were lighter compared to the bear, which was naturally heavier.

Mr. Dietrich and Minori managed to carry it with great difficulty, the three of us working together....
