Volume 1 Chapter 20 Unexpected Reunion, and that person is
"Sorry to keep you waiting, Minori. You must have been bored."
"No, not at all. I got to check out various aspects of the merchant guild, so it wasn't boring."
Minori, who should have been the one waiting, apparently caught a guild staff member and did that while looking somewhat idle.
That's the saying of 'teacher':"Even a swordsman shouldn't dismiss knowledge; be eager to learn."
She must have been embodying that.
After leaving the merchant guild, we started walking down the main street of the town, now tilting toward evening, towards the suburbs where my new home is.
I should have Minori stay over today.
"By the way, I didn't get a chance to ask earlier, but... didn't Suzu come with you?"
"Oh, Suzu? She said she's still reading a borrowed magic book and will come later."
"Is that so?"
Saying that the magic book is the reason is certainly very much like Suzu.
It's precisely because she's so dedicated to studying that she has become the youngest Second Rank adventurer on the continent.
"Speaking of which, I should check, but you are staying over at my place tonight, right, Minori?"
"Huh? Why?"
I asked casually, but Minori tilted her head and asked back.
Oh, is it not the case?
"Huh? Then what are you doing tonight, Minori? If we just go to our workshop now, it will be evening."
"Yeah, that's true, but?"
Although Minori is a skilled swordswoman, I always tell her not to walk alone at night, but for some reason, she looked puzzled and nodded.
...It feels like the conversation isn't quite connecting.
"...Oh, I see now."
Clap, Lene snapped her fingers.
Was there a meaning to this conversation that only a third party could understand?
"So, Minori, you mean you want to live in the workshop, right?"
"Yeah, that's right!"
"Huh?"
Minori nods at Lene's confirmation as if it were obvious.
I unintentionally let out a foolish sound.
"W-wait, Minori, are you serious?"
"I am serious! Ah, sorry. Was it your love nest? If so, I'll stay at an inn from now on, but just for tonight──"
"No, that's not it!"
I hurriedly stop Minori, who seems to be misunderstanding.
Lene's face turns bright red, as if she's not used to this kind of talk.
How did it come to this?
"That's not what I meant! Minori, you don't really plan to stay in this town as an adventurer, do you?"
"Yeah, that's right!"
I get another look like,"What are you saying, Big Bro Ryuuji?"
To summarize, it seems Minori is moving from Behmer to Sartzstadt to work as an adventurer here.
"Suzu plans to do the same! Big Bro Ryuuji's place is our place!"
"...I see."
A young Second Rank adventurer could choose a better town that isn't already falling into ruins.
Seriously, these sisters have some serious brother complex.
I'd like them to be a little more independent.
"Huh? Mr. Ryuuji, you're smiling!"
"It's true! Big Bro Ryuuji, are you happy we're here?"
"...shut up."
Teased by the noisy Lene and Minori, I decided to hurry home.
* * *
Once we got home, we quickly allocated a room for Minori and then went to check on Lana and the others.
I need to introduce Minori since she's a new resident.
"There are only two beds for now, so I'm sorry, but could Lene and Minori share one for a while?"
Fortunately, the beds left behind by the previous residents are both large.
They're big enough that Lene and Minori can sleep together without any problem.
"No, no, I'll leave Lene to Big Bro Ryuuji. I wouldn't want to get in the way of your love—ow!"
I lightly dropped my fist on Minori's head for saying something stupid.
She grumbled something about "domestic violence," but I ignored her.
"Lana, Lena. It's Ryuuji. I'm back."
I gave a light knock on the door of the neighboring house and called out to its little owners.
"Ah, sorry. I'll open it now."
However, the voice that answered wasn't Lana or Lena.
—But it was a voice I'd heard before.
As the door creaked open—
"...Mr. Dietrich?"
"Yes."
The unexpected guest gave a small nod, as if acknowledging my confirmation.
Standing there was none other than Mr. Dietrich, the young knight we'd saved from bandits on our way to Sartzstadt.
And in the small dining area past the entrance, where Lana and Lena were eating dinner with full concentration, another girl with long pink-gold hair sat in a chair, facing us.
"Greetings. We've been expecting you both."
The girl stood up and gave a slight curtsy as she greeted us.
Mr. Dietrich placed a hand over his chest and bowed his head toward us.
We hastily bowed back.
...Ah, I see.
Is this girl the one who was protected by Mr. Dietrich and the others back then?
"Um... what exactly is this?"
As Lene voiced her confusion on behalf of the group, Mr. Dietrich glanced at the girl behind him.
"I apologize for not introducing myself the other day, Mr. Ryuuji, Ms. Lene."
Receiving Mr. Dietrich's signal, the girl began her self-introduction.
"I'm Cecilie Leifeisen von Beistein. I am the first princess of this country. I have come here today with a request for both of you."
Disclosing her staggering identity, Cecilie smiled sweetly, oblivious to our astonishment.
