Volume 6 Chapter 42 if You Can't Take Them, Just Bring Them Instead

While Ellie and her friends were energetically striking at the goddess, Randy and his companions were 4 in number, examining the stone gate, saying, "Not like that, but more like this."

No, to be precise, it was Julius who was doing the examination, while Randy and the others were hardly contributing at all.

The only one assisting was Luke, who was securing the light.

Nevertheless, both Randy and Leon understood that they were of no help in this situation.

That is precisely why they chose to remain silent and not interfere.

Randy also held back the urge to ask, "How about it? Do you understand?"

Gaining the cooperation of the 3, Julius finished his observations from various angles and opened his mouth with a serious expression, saying, "Probably, but..."

"I think it's a type of teleportation gate."

 "A teleportation gate?"

Julius informed Randy, who furrowed his brows, that it was a magic tool that connects specified locations.

"Basically, teleportation gates should be connected to each other."

"So you're saying there's another gate that connects here?"

Julius nodded in response to Luke, who was creasing his brows, saying, "If it's a teleportation gate."

"That's amazing. If there are 2 of these, would we be freed from the limitations of distance?"

Randy was banging on the gate when Luke grimaced and said, "Stop it. You're going to break it."

"Do you really think it will break from something like this?"

"The idiot who broke countless items by saying things like that──where is he now?"

Glancing sideways at Luke, who was giving him a pointed stare, Randy averted his gaze and said, "It was unavoidable." He had irreparably broken many things ever since he swung a log as a child and destroyed the estate's door.

"Have you really broken that much?"

"Yeah. More than you can imagine..."

With a distant look in his eyes, Luke began recounting stories of Randy's childhood, during which he had destroyed various things, from common items like carts to even a small cliff in nature.

"Let's not dwell on the childhood stories."

Furrowing his brows, Randy turned to Julius to change the subject and gently placed his hand on the gate.

"This might be a teleportation gate... but how do you know that?"

"I've heard that the royal family has one too. Apparently it's for emergency escapes."

He had heard that even royalty possessed one.

Apparently, it was for emergency escapes.

Julius shrugged, and explained that based on the ancient magical language inscribed on the gate, he had concluded that it was a teleportation gate.

Though not as profound as Liz or Ellie's, he still possessed a notable level of understanding regarding magic within their group.

Randy nodded almost incomprehensibly, as Julius launched into a complex explanation.

"But you don't understand, do you?"

"I got that it's a teleportation gate, at least."

 "Yeah, you barely understand it."

Luke, with his bewildered expression, prompted Randy to scoff, "Shut up." Randy then looked back at Julius and the gate.

"By the way, have you ever seen one, Julius? The one that's said to be in the royal family's possession?"

"No. I've only heard about it, and have never actually seen it used. It's primarily used by the Crown Prince and above, apparently."

Julius, keeping his gaze fixed on the gate, prompted Randy to lean in closer.

Upon closer inspection, the gate was indeed inscribed with numerous runes, as Julius had described.

If Ellie or Liz were here, they could decipher them instantly, but unfortunately, only Randy and the others were present.

"If this is a teleportation gate, it must be a valuable item, right?"

"That's right. It's an artifact from an ancient civilization. It's a magical tool that can't be replicated in modern times."

Julius, with a wry smile, informed them that the gate was also very old.

"What's strange is that I can't find a power source.... I don't even know what kind of power source it might be..."

As Julius muttered that, the entrance area suddenly brightened.

The 4 stared at each other, then hurriedly ran outside.

There, they saw Liz and Cecilia, each carrying a rather large box labeled "Sewing Supplies," looking around curiously.

 "Welcome back."

Liz turned around with a delighted smile at Randy's greeting.

 "I'm home."

Randy smiled, recognizing the unique atmosphere, and fully understood the situation.

 "As expected"

 "...Do you know?"

Liz tilted her head, and Randy smiled back, saying, "I understand."

Randy actually understood that Liz and the others had fought some kind of battle.

It was evident from the subtle differences in Liz's voice and expression.

A kind of exhilaration after a battle, one could say.

It was the kind of atmosphere he was well acquainted with.

There was no way he wouldn't know.

As expected, they had been caught in danger.

But they had accomplished their objective and returned safely.

Randy couldn't come up with any words stronger than "impressive."

 "You've gotten so much stronger."

 "I didn't do anything."

Liz scratched her cheek with a wry smile, but Randy simply nodded silently.

"Ellie is satisfied with you, isn't she? It means that as a result of Liz's training, Ellie's magic is becoming something her body can withstand."

Randy nodded vigorously, and Liz blushed, saying, "Hehe."

Of course, by each other's sides, they were each happily enjoying their reunions.

"I wanted Leon to see it too. My powerful attack."

"Yeah, yeah. Just a dream, right?"

Despite his words, Leon seemed pleased.

"It was pretty fun, you know."

 "That's good."

Livia's adventure-filled story, full of onomatopoeia, made Julius nod happily.

 And...

 "C─Cecilia-sama, are you alright?"

 "Ah, I'm fine."

Luke felt flustered at being addressed by name for the first time, while Cecilia seemed happy to be called by her name.

They were still not close enough to stand side-by-side, but it might be a step forward for both of them.
