Volume 6 Chapter 41-2 Even a Great Magician Exists Alongside a Sword Saint
"What I want to investigate is inside. The cave, you know."
Randy pointed to the cave and continued, saying that he wanted to investigate the mysterious gate inside.
"You did say that."
"So, let's check it out for now. Even if we don't understand it, Julius probably knows a lot about it, right?"
He's a genius who graduated from the empire's academy ahead of schedule.
He might be familiar with things that Randy and the others don't understand, such as ancient ruins.
If the gate is affecting the cave, he might be able to decipher it, allowing Randy and the others to enter.
Hearing this, Luke and Leon also seemed motivated.
Even though they decided to trust him, they couldn't help but worry.
Thus, the investigation began with a group of 4 who relied solely on Julius's intellect, as their parameters were skewed towards physical strength.

While Randy and the others were showing off their youthful energy, Ellie and her companions were in the midst of a fierce battle with a goddess.
A being that even Cecilia and Catherine considered to be divine.
Normally, they would choose to flee without fighting, but as if to respond to Randy and the others' trust, the scales of battle slightly tipped in Ellie's favor.
"Ahahahaha! What is this? So fun!"
...Livia kicked off the walls of the cave, moving freely, and swung her sword.
In front of her were numerous angels created by the goddess.
Though the angels kept appearing no matter how many she cut down, it seemed to be the perfect level of strength for Livia, as she smiled and said, "This is great! You guys are fun!" while hacking away at them.
Beneath the aerial battle...
"Here we go. Synchronize!"
Following Ellie's command, Cecilia unleashed her magic.
"How is it?"
"Not bad. After we leave here, have Liz teach you Multiple Chanting."
Ellie nodded with satisfaction at Cecilia's magical talent, or rather, the culmination of her efforts.
Of course, it wasn't an effective blow against the goddess, but their attacks were definitely chipping away at the goddess's illusion.
Livia took on the angels single-handedly.
Ellie and Cecilia gradually chipped away at the goddess.
Such were the achievements of these 3... but not only them.
"Even so..."
Cecilia, with a wry smile, watched Catherine swing a cypress stick, her cries mixing with the act.
Catherine had been incurring the goddess's wrath since earlier.
The reason was simple and clear...
"Go that way!"
The moment the cypress stick, wielded in desperation, struck the goddess's hand, she recoiled dramatically, as if in pain.
"Why is Lady Catherine's...?"
Cecilia, with a strained smile, added, "It's dangerous," and unleashed a whirlwind against the goddess's counterattack.
The goddess's arm, thrown off by the shock, passed just above Catherine.
"Whoa! Hey, aim over there too!"
As a fuming Catherine roared, the goddess's attack descended.
Ellie's barrier blocked it, but the goddess relentlessly continued to target Catherine.
"There's no other way. That's the root cause..."
Ellie continued, "It's all the rumors and grudges that Catherine has been carrying with her."
Catherine had changed from before, but many still didn't acknowledge it, or even knew about it.
Even Airen and the others didn't know, her image as "[The Witch Who Brings Ruin to a Kingdom]" was still stronger.
"She gathers impressions. She also gathers respect and gratitude from herself and those around her...but..."
"Negative emotions attract her more strongly."
Cecilia's gaze fell on Catherine, who was in a state of near madness, striking the goddess's hand with her cypress stick.
Ellie had deployed a magic barrier on everyone, at a level that separated dimensions──so even the goddess's attack could be blocked a few times, but...
Catherine was still desperately rolling on the ground, dodging the goddess's attacks.
"My own image of her has long since changed, though."
"Same for me. But the world won't accept it readily."
As Ellie said, the many resentments and jealousies that Catherine carried with her were the most effective attack against the pure goddess in this very moment.
Reluctant to fulfill the duties of a Saint, they struggled against it, and now they stand facing the original culprit, which is why life is truly mysterious.
Ellie chuckled, "Heh heh," and laughed even more when it seemed the fisherman's efforts were not in vain.
"Hey, stop laughing and help out!"
Catherine's graceful form, swinging down her cypress tick, was undoubtedly a gift from her combat instructor.
Though her movements were rigid, her seriousness in odd moments made her staff's trajectory no less effective.
Thanks to this, her strikes were packed with regret, and the goddess lashed out at Catherine in a frenzy.
"Even if you are the Saint's girl, it's too pitiful to be left alone any longer."
Ellie showed a smile and stepped back, preparing her wand as she said, "Cecilia, buy us some time."
As the magical power was rapidly gathered, Livia's shoulders twitched, and the goddess turned her gaze to Ellie.
"Lady Catherine! We're stalling for time!"
After casting her magic, Catherine shouted, "Oh, got it!" and once again swung her cypress tick.
The two stood like a wall in front of the goddess, while Ellie took a deep breath and whispered, "Suu."
"Dweller in the primal darkness, Seated at the edge of the abyss
Black maw rending the eternal void of night
Shackles of reason binding all creation
Now I release you from your chains
The time to offer tribute is at hand
Devour, consume, drink dry all of this world──"
In sync with Ellie's chant, a pitch-black maw emerged from the void.
The goddess attempted to flee in panic at the absurd and ominous magical power, but it was too late.
A black chain extended from the maw, capturing the goddess trying to escape.
"What's wrong? You better run or I'll eat you... Gulp!"
The goddess showed her anger for the first time towards Ellie's wicked smile──then, "Open, Jaws of the Abyss (Devouring Abyss)"
As Ellie stabbed her wand into the ground, the pitch-black maw devoured the goddess's lower half.
The goddess let out a pained scream and turned her wrathful gaze on Ellie,
"Catherine! Charge!"
At Ellie's shout, Catherine exclaimed, "Huh? Eh?" and dashed forward.
As if to push Catherine, who was running, a gust of wind blew and lifted her body into the air.
"Whoa, wai──"
"Go for it!"
With a mischievous grin, Ellie watched as Catherine, with a furrowed brow, slammed the cypress stick hard into the goddess's forehead.
A pure white light enveloped the surroundings, centered on the goddess's forehead.
