Volume 6 Chapter 37-2 The Climax of the Fire is Basically Here.
"It's okay. An-Zoo targets those who get close to the nest."
"So that means I'm the main target, huh?"
Randy lets out a sigh he can't stop, but he knows complaining won't help here.
Instead, he lightly grabs a piece of rock on the cliff face to his left.
It's nothing special.
He just secured himself some ammo.
But...the shock from the crumbling rock sends a few pebbles rolling...and as if those were a signal, weird things start popping out of several holes.
Birds...but they look kind of human.
"What the... ?"
"I, I don't know! An-Zoo is supposed to be just a bird!"
The moment Catherine's voice echoes across the cliff, a chilling screech rips through the air, and countless of the strange creatures burst from their holes.
A swarm of creatures fills the sky.
Each one lets out a creepy shriek as they circle Randy and the others.
Then, several of them dive straight down from the sky──landing right in front of Randy and the others.
A creature that resembles a cross between a human and a bird.
Its whole body is emaciated, with rotting skin hanging down like hair.
Its limbs, even thinner than the skin, are just bone and flesh.
But its large hands, which could easily grab a person's face, are equipped with long, sharp claws.
With ragged feathers flapping, and a bizarre face that looks like a rotting plague mask, it lets out a "snickering" laugh.
"Hey, hey. Don't call me a rotting 'waiting for my turn' kind of guy. And by the way, this isn't a bird costume contest."
Randy manages a wry smile, but he can't help but remember that he's also dressed in a lady's costume.
A rotting bird-man facing off against a muscular lady in a torn dress.
Everyone watches in stunned silence as the two absurd figures face each other.
A creature that evokes primal disgust, a real enemy that attacks your vision with terror and revulsion.
But on the other side, there's Randy, embodying the sheer force of visual brutality.
Both sides are on high alert, but after making fun of Randy earlier, the others can't help but feel a strange, surreal atmosphere.
A rotting bird-man, a lady with a torn dress on her shoulders and arms, and a cliff and ocean surrounding them.
And the surroundings are cliffs and sea.
They don't know the worldview anymore, but the two of them face each other are serious.
"Hmm, this..."
Catherine's calm murmur, devoid of tension, was swallowed up by the cliff below just as Randy slowly sat down..."Damn, my skirt's too tight"...Once again, Randy's subtle observation escaped at the moment the bird-person moved.
Randy locked eyes with it as it flew through the air at an incredible speed...and the bird-person's head exploded.
The stone Randy threw pierced its skull, and the now lifeless bird-person's body followed its momentum, passing by Randy and the others before plummeting into the sea.
As if that were a signal, the bird-people simultaneously lunged at Randy and the group.
The footing was poor, and Randy, Luke, and Leon were all dressed differently than usual in their skirts.
Everyone prepared themselves, knowing they were out of their element...
──Pop!
With a single snap of her fingers echoing off the cliff, the flock of bird-people covering the sky was shredded by a gust of wind.
The rotting remains that fell with a thud were then blown toward the sea by another snap of her fingers.
"Such a bother."
Ellie bit back a yawn as Randy turned back and patted her head, saying, "S-sorry about that."
"Hey, don't stop!"
Ellie, despite her scowl, wasn't too upset as she pushed Randy's back, urging, "Let's move faster!"
Among those present, Randy was the only one not surprised by Ellie's magic.
It's because Randy barely knows how to use magic, so he doesn't understand what Ellie did.
"Your magic just now..."
"Ha, ha. Did I really plan to fight these monsters?"
Cecilia and Catherine, their faces twitching, understood the power of Ellie's Multiple Chanting.
Luke and Julius, silent, did too.
"Elizabeth is strong too!"
"And Lady Eleonora is even stronger."
Unlike the naive younger members, Luke and Julius also know how to use magic.
Luke gave a quick glance back at the silent Julius.
"You guys should probably stop."
"I wish they would."
Amid Julius's wry smile, Randy, still unaware of the gravity of the situation, was escorting Ellie down the slope.
Unaware of any reactions behind them.
Randy, holding Ellie and Liz's hands, made his way down the safe path... finally reaching the landing that appeared ahead.
"This is..."
"The Cave of Saint."
Catherine nodded, but what lay before Randy and the others was nothing more than an ordinary cave.
Sure, it didn't have the vibe of a giant bird's, or a monstrous lair, but it didn't look like a place only women could enter, nor did it seem deserving of the name 'Saint's'.
They exchanged glances, noting that it looked like just a cave.
"Should we just go in? Just us?"
Luke and Leon nodded in response to Randy, who tilted his head in confusion.
With Randy leading the way, Luke and Leon, dressed as women, stepped into the dark cave ahead.
