Marriage... no, marriage...
I don't get it... So, I decided to talk to someone who's been married before.
I'm heading to see the former Demon Lord.
"Oh, Zeke. It's been a while."
"Hey there, how's it going?"
"Thanks for asking, I'm doing well."
I arrived at a village on the outskirts of the Demon Lord's territory.
There's a little cabin there where the former Demon Lord lives a relaxed life, teaching magic to Demonkin children.
"What's up, Zeke?"
"Well, that's the thing..."
There's a bench in the cabin's garden.
I sat down and started sharing my recent worries.
"Hmm... marriage, huh?"
"Yeah. I'm just wondering what to do."
"I see. What do you think? How do you want things to be between the two of you?"
Chippy and Cino.
What do I want with them...
"Well, I think I'm okay with things staying as they are."
"Hmm... don't you want kids?"
"Kids... hmm..."
When you put it that way...
I do sometimes think having kids would be nice.
For example, the daughter of the Divine Dragon King or the daughter of the Divine Beast King.
I think they're adorable.
"Don't you want a daughter or son with those 2?"
"Well... I haven't really thought about it."
Back when I was a court veterinarian, I was too busy for that (and besides, Chippy was an earth dragon, and Cino was going through puberty and avoiding me).
When I first became the Demon Lord, I was swamped with various enemies and domestic issues.
But... things are different now.
I've got a little more room to breathe.
"Now that you have time to think, take it easy and reflect."
"Is it okay not to rush?"
"Of course. Whether or not to get married, and when, is up to each person."
I see... yeah, that makes sense.
"What's important is whether you have a strong desire to get married within yourself."
The former Demon Lord fell silent, as if he had no more to say.
But he's right.
In the end, my own will is what matters most.
"Thanks, that was helpful."
"Well, speaking of which, what do you think about my daughter?"
"Uh, uh, no... there's also the issue of which one of them I should choose..."
"What are you talking about?"
The elder, with a puzzled expression.
Huh?
"In today's world, polygamy isn't uncommon, you know?"
"Eh, really!? Is that so!?"
I had no idea...!
"Why didn't you know..."
"Well, I... wasn't interested..."
Besides being a beast veterinarian, not really.
The elder says with a wry smile.
"Socially, polygamy is accepted. Besides, you're going to be king. It's natural to have multiple wives."
"Seriously...?"
"Exactly, so the question isn't who you want to marry, but whether you even want to marry at all."
Ah, I see...
"My daughter is a little clumsy, but she's a good person and smart. What do you think?"
"Ah, uh, well..."
"It's a joke. Don't worry about your love, young Demon Lord."
