Volume 4 Chapter 9 Who Is the Companion
I decided to travel to the dwarven country, Kai-Pagos, to investigate the ground subsidence incidents.
A land far to the southeast, beyond the sea.
Yes—this would be an overseas journey.
Larc had already begun arranging a ship for me.
It was going to be a long trip.

In My Room
"I'm going with Zeke!"
The earth dragon Chippy, in her human form, declared with unwavering determination.
"No, it's me who's traveling with my brother."
My sister, Cino, stood her ground just as firmly.
Oh boy.
"Oh? What's this, Doctor? A little squabble?"
A deep, amused voice interrupted.
Turning, I saw the Divine Dragon King, one of the Divine Beasts residing in my country, watching the scene with great interest.
I sighed.
"Not really a squabble..."
"Hmm. Looks like a battle of women over you, Doctor."
Cino and Chippy had now pressed their foreheads together, locked in a silent but intense battle of wills.
Chippy smirked.
"Kai-Pagos is covered in snow and ice, right? You'll need help. That's why I'm coming."
Cino scoffed.
"Huh? Are you stupid? If you go stomping around in your Behemoth form, you'll cause an avalanche with every step. What, trying to kill my precious brother?"
The Divine Dragon King nodded sagely.
"Aha. So this is a dispute over who gets to accompany Doctor to the dwarven country."
I exhaled.
"Yeah, that about sums it up."
Truthfully, I had planned to go alone. But I couldn't exactly let either of them make this long journey alone, either.
The Divine Dragon King grinned.
"You're really loved, Doctor."
"Thanks. But I'd really like this resolved soon..."
"Then you need to mediate."
I blinked.
"Why me?"
"Because it's a dispute over you. Go on, step in."
With a firm push from the Divine Dragon King, I found myself standing between Chippy and Cino.
I raised both hands.
"Now, now. Fighting isn't good—"
""We're not fighting, you know?""
Their expressions were terrifying.
I swallowed.
"Hey, calm down, you two—"
""Huh? We are calm!"
...I had no idea what they were even arguing about anymore.
I sighed.
"Does it really matter who follows me?"
They both shot me a sharp glare.
""Just be quiet for a bit.""
"Oh... okay."
The Divine Dragon King watched all of this unfold before finally bursting into laughter.
What was so funny...?
