Volume 4 Chapter 31 Normal Purification

Volume 4 Chapter 31 Normal Purification

We were diving deeper into the massive hole, searching for Ena's father and the missing dwarf search party.

"I can sense the dwarves getting closer, big brother."

Cino's tone was focused, her magic perception honing in on their location.

Before long, we arrived at a large, echoing hall. There, the dwarves were scattered on the ground.

 "Mr. Gazel!"

Ena ran toward the nearest dwarf, panic in her voice.

"Oh...ugh...Little Ena..." A dwarf barely managed to raise his head.

 "Wait right there! I'm coming!"

Ena started rushing forward, but Chippy grabbed her by the neck, lifting her up like a kitten.

"Hold on. Can't you see that...?"

Chippy pointed ahead, and we saw the poisonous swamp between us and the dwarves.

"A terrifyingly high concentration of miasma," Cino said, scanning the swamp. "If we breathe this in, it's game over."

"Great. Just what we needed," I muttered, scanning the area.

"We fell into a pitfall trap...ugh...we got caught..." A dwarf groaned from the ground, clearly in no shape to help.

I looked up, spotting a vertical shaft above us.

"Even if we try to fly with magic, we'll die once we cross the swamp," Cino said, her face draining of color.

"What...!?" Ena's eyes widened, realizing the danger.

The dwarves, now pale as ghosts, seemed like they might pass out any second.

"Ena... we're fine... just find Mr. Dogolf..." one dwarf whispered weakly.

"Dogolf?" I asked, finally connecting the dots.

"Her father. He's the only one missing," came the weak reply.

I nodded. It made sense now—he had probably gotten separated during the trap.

"Wait for me," I said, striding forward confidently.

"Hey, brother! What are you planning to do!?"

 Cino's voice rose, alarmed.

"What do you mean? Just purify it normally," I said, waving my hand dismissively.

"Don't be ridiculous! That's poison! One breath of that and we're toast!"

Cino screamed, but I was already ignoring her.

I stuck my hand into the swamp. Splash.

""Whaaaaaaaat!"" Cino and Ena yelled, almost in perfect unison.

 "[Heal]."

I spoke calmly, and with a flash of light, the swamp turned from poisonous muck into clear water.

"""Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat!?""" Cino and the others looked on in disbelief.

"It's been transformed into harmless water," she said, her voice filled with awe. "As expected of you, brother."

I grinned, looking like I'd just solved the world's problems with a snap of my fingers. "It's nothing, really."

I waded through the water, heading toward the dwarves.

 "[Heal]."

With another gesture, the miasma inside the dwarves' bodies was purified.

 "Whoa! Amazing!"

One of the dwarves shot up from the ground. "I feel light as a feather! What's going on!?"

The others stared at me with wide eyes, mouths agape.

"You... are incredible! Thank you! You're a lifesaver! Who are you!? What's your name!?"

I gave them a humble smile. "My name is Zeke. I'm just a beast veterinarian."

 Silence.

Then, in perfect unison, the dwarves shouted, "No, that's not it!"

 I blinked. "Uh... what?"

"You're our savior!" One dwarf threw his arms wide. "A messenger from heaven!"

"Or maybe even a god!" another one cried, bowing dramatically.

Chippy, arms crossed, let out an exaggerated sigh. "No one believes Zeke is just a beast veterinarian anymore."

I shot her a grin. "Hey, what can I say? I'm basically a walking miracle."

"Yeah, well," Chippy muttered, "You're still just a beast veterinarian, alright?"
