Volume 4 Chapter 29 Exploring the Great Dungeon
We pressed deeper into the heart of the massive cave. The air was thick, and the walls seemed to stretch on forever. It was so vast that without a map, we'd have been completely lost.
"Hey, brother, this way."
"Thanks."
Cino was leading the way, and we moved through the cavern without a hitch.
"Little guy, you've got a good sense of direction without even looking at a map," Chippy marveled.
Cino shrugged, a bit smug.
"It's no big deal. Once I've seen it, I can remember it all. I'm not like some random lizard who gets lost in its own backyard."
"Just you wait, I'll bury you deep underground one of these days," Chippy grumbled under his breath.
"Calm down," I said with a chuckle.
As we ventured further into the dark, eerie depths of the cave, we were attacked several times by Black Beasts. But each time, my sacred barrier shattered them, or Cino and the others took care of them with a quick spell or punch.
"Amazing... so strong... everyone..." Ena whispered in awe.
Her admiration didn't go unnoticed, but there wasn't much time to bask in glory. We soon arrived at a steep cliff blocking our path.
"Looks like the correct path is on the other side," I said, surveying the drop.
"But... I can't see anything over there!" Ena said, her voice filled with uncertainty.
At first glance, it seemed like pitch-black darkness stretched on forever. It was hard to tell what was even in front of us.
"But wait," I squinted, "You can barely make it out, but there's a faint outline of the other shore over there."
"Should we just fly over?" Chippy suggested, but Cino quickly shot that down.
"Brother, it seems like there's some weird gravitational field here. If we fly, we'll be flipped upside down."
"I see. Chippy, I'm counting on you."
Chippy rolled her eyes, crossing her arms.
"Sheesh, what a pain..."
Without another word, she stepped forward, then suddenly... jumped.
"Eh, eeeeh!? Suicide jump!?"
I yelped, thinking we were all about to become cave art.
"No way! Transform!"
Chippy's body started to glow, and before our eyes, she transformed into a colossal dragon.
"Eeeeh!?"
Ena stammered, staring up at the massive beast.
"Wha-what!? This dragon, wha-what!?"
"Behemoth," Cino answered casually. "That's Chippy's race name."
"Behemoth!? This ancient dragon!? Why is it here!?"
Ena could barely comprehend what she was seeing.
Chippy, now in dragon form, stretched out her massive arms, creating a bridge from one side of the cliff to the other.
'Well, there's a lot going on. Now come on, let's cross. It's pretty exhausting, you know.'
The idea of walking across a dragon bridge wasn't as easy as it sounded, but we climbed onto her back and shuffled across the bridge she'd created.
After what felt like forever, we made it to the other side. Chippy immediately returned to her human form, clearly tired.
"Good work, everyone," I said, giving her a pat on the back.
"My arms are so tired..." Chippy groaned.
Ena, still catching her breath, observed the scene and murmured to herself,
"Everyone's so amazing... I'm starting to feel paralyzed..."
