Volume 4 Chapter 28 Cheating Siblings
After we finally reached the massive pit, we decided to explore it right away.
"Zeke, what should we do now?" Chippy asked, looking up at me with concern.
"First and foremost, we need to prioritize finding Ena's dad and the rescue team that went missing." I looked around, surveying the dark chasm. "We can investigate the cause of the pit later. Right now, saving lives takes precedence."
"B-but... how are we supposed to search for them?" Ena stammered, her voice full of doubt.
"Well, for starters, we should create a map of this area," I suggested, glancing around the unfamiliar terrain.
"A-a map? Th-this is impossible," Ena protested. "We don't have any information, and we've never been here before, right?"
I gave her a confident smile.
"Yeah, but that's not a problem."
I touched the floor of the pit with my right hand and channeled my magical energy into it.
"Okay. Search complete. Projecting the map now."
With a flourish, I activated my Right Hand of Divine Magic, and a glowing map projected into the air, floating above us.
"Whoa, what in the world is this!?" Chippy exclaimed, her eyes wide in disbelief.
I shrugged, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
"What do you mean? It's a map of the inside of the pit, of course."
"H-how did you create such a detailed map?!" Ena gasped, still stunned by the glowing projection.
Before I could respond, Cino grinned and jumped in.
"Big Bro is a beast veterinarian. He specializes in channeling magic through beasts' bodies to explore their internal structure, kind of like using echoes. Truly impressive, big bro!"
I rubbed the back of my head, a little embarrassed.
"Yeah, I suppose I do have a knack for that kind of thing."
"Wait, Zeke, you're a beast veterinarian?" Ena blinked, still trying to process everything. "Even after becoming a Demon Lord?"
I smiled, though a little wistfully.
"My true nature hasn't changed. Saving lives is still my job, after all."
Chippy furrowed her brow, noticing something on the map.
"Uh, um... what's that little light dot?"
I focused on it, narrowing my eyes.
"I sense the magical energy of a dwarf from here. It's probably Ena's dad and the others."
"Wait, you've already found them!? Th-this is incredible..." Ena gasped, her voice shaking with excitement.
"From what I can tell, Ena's dad is alive," I said with a reassuring smile. "Everyone's safe. That's great news."
Ena's eyes welled up with tears of relief as she sniffled, then suddenly broke into a big smile.
"Waaaah! I'm so happy!"
I gently patted her head, relieved to see her so overjoyed.
"It's good to see you this happy."
"Alright, Cino, find the quickest route to where Ena's dad is."
"Got it, big bro." Cino squinted at the floating map, examining it carefully.
"Can you really figure out the shortest route through such a complicated maze?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
Cino shot me a cheeky grin.
"Unlike insects, I've got a brain to think with, brother." He tapped the map. "I've found the route."
With another wave of light magic, Cino illuminated the path ahead, guiding us to the way forward.
"Alright, shall we go?" I asked, looking at everyone.
We ventured deeper into the pit, the atmosphere growing more tense with each step.
"Mr. Zeke and the others... even if they're not... they must be some pretty out-there folks, right?" Chippy said, her voice full of admiration.
I laughed softly.
"And even if they're not, those two are monsters."
