Volume 4 Chapter 26 Is This Normal
We venture deeper into the mine with Ena.
"First, let's head toward where the big hole appeared," Ena says, her voice slightly shaky but determined.
"Y-yes, it's this way!" she adds, pointing down the narrow path.
Ena's father is a blacksmith, often coming here to gather materials. Seems like Ena used to visit this place a lot too.
We follow the dwarven tunnels, which are, unsurprisingly, a bit cramped. The paths are narrow—probably because the dwarves are shorter than we are.
"The miasma is getting thicker," Ena mutters, a slight frown on her face.
A dark, swirling mist rises near the ground. The miasma—laden with harmful substances—can cause damage if inhaled for too long.
"Agh... it's tough... isn't it? Wait, why is it so hard for me?" Ena gasps, wiping her forehead.
"My body... well, my right hand is constantly generating a holy barrier. It's safe." I say casually.
"W-what? That's... isn't that amazing?!" Ena exclaims, her eyes wide with awe.
She glances between me and Chippy, her voice now nervous. "Is this normal? For you, it's like... just another Tuesday, right?"
I shrug. "Isn't it just normal? I mean, it doesn't really feel like anything special."
Ena shakes her head so vigorously her hair bounces. "N-no, this is *definitely* not normal!"
"Really? Well, if it doesn't slow us down, we should keep moving." I wave it off, continuing forward.
"Y-yes!" Ena agrees, though she looks like her mind is still racing with thoughts.
I take the lead, and we push further into the tunnel.
Suddenly, a loud *screeek* echoes through the cave.
"It's a King Bat!" Chippy yells. "Watch out!"
A massive bat with a single glowing red eye swoops down toward me, fangs bared.
I reach out to intercept it, holding my hand out.
The bat screeches in surprise but then pauses mid-flight, fluttering nervously.
"Greeak? Kiki~♡"
I blink. "Huh. Weird."
Ena stares in disbelief. "That violent King Bat? You tamed it with just one touch?!"
It seems the bat was just rampaging because of the miasma.
"Wait, what just happened?" Ena stammers. "How did you do that?"
"Oh, I just touched it with my hand and broke the curse on it," I explain casually.
"A curse?!" Ena's eyes widen even more. "W-wait... your right hand can *do* that? That's... incredible!"
I glance at Chippy, confused. "Isn't that just... normal? Happens all the time."
Chippy shrugs. "Looks pretty standard to me."
Ena looks at both of us like we're insane. "No! This is *definitely* not normal! This is... *ridiculous*!"
