Volume 4 Chapter 15 Inquiry
Alright, let's turn up the comedy dial and make this even more ridiculous!
---
With the ship temporarily stopped, the rescuers returned to their newly repaired ship—probably still questioning their existence.
Meanwhile, I turned back to the Krakens, who were now floating lazily around us, looking like giant jelly blobs.
"Alright, now that you've calmed down, let's get to the bottom of this. Why were you guys causing such a ruckus?"
'We... don't actually know...'
A massive school of Krakens just bobbed in confusion.
From a distance, the passengers were watching in stunned silence.
"You don't know?"
'Yeah. One minute, we were just swimming along like usual, and then... bam, mind blank. And the next thing we knew, we were rampaging.'
Even Cino, who's usually quick to catch on to things, looked puzzled.
"Is there anything that could have triggered it?"
'''Umm...'''
The Krakens collectively wobbled their heads.
Meanwhile, the passengers were losing their minds.
"He's just... casually talking to a Kraken..."
"S-Seriously... how is he doing that!?"
Chippy, completely unfazed, clapped his hands together.
"You mustn't let it get to you, everyone. Zeke is special."
'Ah! Speaking of which—'
One of the Krakens enthusiastically raised a tentacle like a kid in class.
"You have an idea?"
'Yes! While we were swimming, we saw a black beast.'
"A black beast...?"
Cino frowned in thought.
'When the black beast noticed us, it spat out a black mist from its mouth. After we inhaled it... well, next thing we knew, we were going berserk.'
"Cino, any ideas?"
Cino shook his head, rubbing his chin.
"Not with just that clue..."
"Hmmm... indeed. Then let's examine their blood."
"...The blood?"
"Yeah, if they absorbed something harmful, it might still be in their system."
Chippy blinked. "But didn't you already purify them?"
"That's why we'll draw some blood first, then revert it back to its contaminated state."
Cino stared at me, eyes wide.
"...You can do something like that? As expected of big brother."
Chippy sighed, shaking his head.
"You can do anything, Zeke. It's amazing, but... it's amazing..."
I ignored their increasingly exasperated looks and turned to the Krakens.
"Alright, let's get some blood—huh?"
The Krakens were shaking violently.
'T-Taking blood is... a bit...'
'Our blood... it's scary...'
The passengers, already at their limit, gawked at the sight.
"The Krakens are scared...? W-What is that young man planning to do!?"
One of them grabbed his head. "He's probably gonna blast some insane magic at the monster!"
"Nah, he's definitely obliterating it with an even greater destructive force!"
"Healing it himself... destroying it himself... Is he some kind of god or something!?"
...Excuse me???
Where the hell did that logic come from!?
Chippy just patted me on the shoulder.
"It can't be helped, Zeke. After seeing what you did, this reaction is inevitable."
Cino nodded sagely.
"Brother, you're amazing! Everyone respects you!"
"No one respects me. That's absolutely not true."
At this rate, the rumors were going to spiral out of control.
Anyway, I sighed and turned back to the trembling Krakens.
"Alright, let's just take the blood samples and figure this out."
I had no idea what kind of weird legend I was unintentionally creating this time.
