Volume 4 Chapter 13 Did I Do Something

Volume 4 Chapter 13 Did I Do Something

Gotcha! Let's crank up the comedy and really lean into the absurdity:

 ---

The ship was destroyed, and I ended up rescuing the people who were stranded.

I leaned over the edge of the ship's deck, staring into the sea.

 A Kraken had appeared.

A giant sea monster, its strength was easily A-rank.

"T-this is bad! Our ship was destroyed by this thing!"

The rescued people looked up at the Kraken with pale faces, trembling like newborn deer.

But hold on a second—something doesn't add up.

Monsters used to be forced to attack humans because of the Ancestor Demon Lord's curse.

But I already broke that curse.

So why is this oversized calamari attacking people like it's a regular Tuesday?

 "Oh, that was close!"

 ...Wait.

 What's going on here?

"You're just standing there taking the Kraken's attacks like it's nothing!? What the hell!?"

Well, to be fair, even though the curse is broken, some monsters probably still have personal grudges.

"HUH!? It just shot a full-power water magic attack and you didn't even blink!? What ARE you!?"

I mean, sure, I could use Tame to make it calm... but that feels like mind control. Not really my style.

"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!? THE KRAKEN UNLEASHED ITS STRONGEST ATTACK, AND EVEN THE SHIP IS COMPLETELY FINE!?"

 ──Tug, tug

 Someone tugged my arm.

I turned around to see Cino looking up at me.

"Brother, brother, the battle has already started."

 "Eh? For real?"

 ...Oh.

I had been so lost in thought, I completely forgot about the battle.

"Alright, first, I need to deal with the Kraken—wait, what's it doing?"

I looked back at the sea.

 The Kraken was...

 SPRAWLED OUT.

Floating on the waves like a washed-up, overcooked noodle.

It wasn't dead or anything. It just looked like it had given up on life.

 "As expected of my brother."

 "Eh? Did I do something?"

"No, nothing. Just, even though countless A-rank monsters attacked, you were unharmed."

 "Wait... countless?"

 I looked closer.

 There wasn't just one Kraken.

 There were tons.

Like, an entire buffet worth of Krakens.

And every single one of them looked like they'd been through several years of unpaid overtime.

"...It seems that brother unconsciously set up a barrier. The ship we are on is safe."

"HUH? But I didn't do anything!?!"

The rescued people slowly turned toward me, their faces frozen in sheer disbelief.

 "W-what... WHAT ARE YOU!?"

"E-eh... well, just a beast veterinarian."

 """DON'T YOU LIE TO MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!"""
