Volume 4 Chapter 1 A Fleeting Slow Life

Volume 4 Chapter 1 A Fleeting Slow Life

It had been a while since I defeated Ruzzel.

On a certain day, I made my way to the lake on the edge of the Demon Lord's country.

 "Huu..."

Since morning, I had been sitting here, casting my fishing line.

 "Brother, big brother!"

 A white-haired girl with beast ears—Haku.

The daughter of the Divine Beast King, she rests her head on my lap.

 "Is it fun?"

 "Yeah, it's fun."

I reel in the rod. The hook swings in the air—completely empty.

 "Alright then."

I put on more bait and toss it back in.

 "Nothing's biting at all."

 "Yeah, right?"

 Splash!

A blue-haired girl pops her head up from the lake.

"Ah! Sia! Did you catch anything?"

 That's Sia.

The daughter of the Dragon God King.

With a strong effort, she climbs out of the water—

a fish clamped between her teeth.

 "Whoa, nice job, Sia!"

 "...How about that?"

She spits the fish into the bucket.

"All of these were caught by Sia!"

 "That's right."

"Big Brother is completely hopeless at fishing."

 "Yeah, I know."

I yawn, still enjoying the act of fishing itself.

 "Is it fun?"

 "Totally!"

 And then—

 Rumble... rumble...

 The ground shakes.

"Wah! Big Brother! It's a monster!"

 "...Scary."

 The two cling to me.

 "It's okay. It's just Chippy."

Soon after, a gigantic dragon's face emerges from the distance—

like a mountain come to life.

Then, with a pop, she transforms.

A beautiful brown-haired girl stands where the dragon once was.

 "Zeke, I found you."

 "Hey, what's up, Chippy?"

She used to be an Earth Dragon.

But after evolving into a Behemoth, she's grown much stronger.

"I was worried since I hadn't seen you since this morning."

Chippy sits beside me, glancing at the bucket.

"Wow, you actually caught quite a few fish."

 "Nah, they're all from Sia."

Chippy gives me a deadpan look.

"For someone so skilled in battle and healing, you're terrible at fishing, huh?"

"Well, it's fine. It's not like I have to be good at it. It's just a hobby."

I stare at the water, lost in thought.

Since my banishment from court, so much has happened.

I was invited to the land of beasts.

Somehow, I ended up ruling the country as its Demon Lord.

 Battles, wars, endless chaos—

until now, I had been caught up in it all.

I never got the chance to just take it easy.

 But lately—

 "Lately, it's been peaceful."

 "That's right. It's a very good thing."

In this country, humans and demons coexist.

Sure, there are small arguments here and there—

but at this point, even fights feel like a sign of good relationships.

At the very least, it's nothing like before.

Not the brutal bloodshed of the past.

 And I think—

 that's a really good thing.

 "Aren't you bored?"

"A dull daily life is what I've been seeking.

 Days without war—aren't they good?

 Boredom is the best."

"Yeah... if everything stays peaceful from now on... that'd be great, wouldn't it..."
