Volume 2 Chapter 36 The Target is Talking Monster
After defeating Talking Monster 'Shisaku No. 10,' we bolted out of Ryukyu Dungeon like it owed us money and made a beeline for the hotel.
The place was only 15 minutes away by car, so we got there before we could even finish arguing over who had the worst dungeon experience.
Once inside, we tossed our stuff into our rooms like responsible adventurers (read: we threw them onto the beds) and regrouped in the first-floor lounge.
"Haisai! Good job, everyone!"
Just a bit-san, our resident team morale booster, kicked things off.
Then—
"Omega, sorry for what happened out of nowhere today."
A formal apology. Nice touch.
"No worries, it's not a problem. Though, I gotta say, having a Talking Monster pop out of nowhere was a real jump-scare moment... ahaha."
"Thanks. But you're right, Omega. To be blunt—this is an 'abnormal situation.'"
Just a bit-san looked serious, which was never a good sign.
"Valkyrie, is this the first time you've seen a Talking Monster in Ryukyu Dungeon?"
I turned to Valkyrie, our team of elite dungeon crawlers.
"Of course! I mean, we didn't even go inside the dungeon on our first day in Okinawa!"
Yuki-san said, sounding a little too proud for someone who dodged danger.
So they spent the day sightseeing instead? Lucky.
"Ah, but... I wouldn't really call it sightseeing. We just ate at some hole-in-the-wall diner near the hotel..."
Kotono-san clarified, because apparently, this was important information.
"Hey, save that for later! More importantly... Carlos-san, what's our next move?"
Ayumi-san cut through the small talk like a boss. No wonder she was known as 'Valkyrie's Mama.'
"Yeah... I just got off the phone with Sakurako. We definitely need to check out the Ryukyu Dungeon. Oh, but I also asked about leveling up. So, investigation-wise, it's just our usual dungeon grind. If another Talking Monster shows up, Wan will handle it, so no worries."
Just a bit-san had already called for backup. Efficient.
"Oh, that's not necessary, Just a bit-san."
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"Well, the main reason we're here is to level up Valkyrie..."
"Yeah, I heard that. But since a Talking Monster popped up on the Upper Floors, there's a good chance more will show up deeper in, so I'll take care of that—"
"No, no. The target for leveling up is the Talking Monster."
"Huh...?"
"""""......Huh?"""""
The room went dead silent.
"W-What? The Talking Monster is the target?"
"W-Why...?"
Nagisa-san and Yuki-san looked like I'd just told them they had to fight God.
"Well, Talking Monsters give way more EXP than regular monsters, right? If we farm a bunch, Valkyrie levels up fast. And since we already found one on the Upper Floors, odds are we'll find more below. Meaning..."
""""S-So, what you're saying is...?""""
"In just one week, we could boost Valkyrie all the way to mid-B-class... no, upper-B-class! Easy grind!"
I announced, full of energy and enthusiasm.
Stunned silence.
"W-What's wrong? Why's everyone just staring...?"
"Omega-kun, we appreciate your dedication, but... sigh."
Yuki-san rubbed her temples like she was already getting a headache.
"There's no way we can beat a Talking Monster!"
Nagisa-san practically shouted.
"Yeah, maybe you can solo them, but for us, that's like trying to fistfight a dragon!"
Nagisa-san got right in my face, radiating sheer panic. Also, she smelled nice. Weird time to notice.
"There's no way we can take on an opponent like that with our current skills!"
"Oh, that's not a problem."
"Huh? N-Not a problem?"
"Yeah. If you guys can't land a hit, I'll just take them all out myself—"
""""W-What...?""""
By the way, in this dungeon, EXP gets split evenly among all registered clan members.
So yeah, as long as I did all the work, Valkyrie would still get their power-ups.
"N-No way I could do something like that! ...I want to say, but honestly, with Omega-san, it might actually work, which is terrifying."
"It's not that it might work. It will work, okay? I specifically came here because I knew Talking Monsters spawned often."
The realization hit them like a truck.
"Ah, yeah. I get it now. Omega-kun is just... beyond common sense."
"Um... huh? Ayumi-san?"
"""Right, right. It's Omega. Why are we even surprised?"""
One by one, the Valkyries gave up on thinking. Smart move.
Well, considering the chaos I tend to bring, maybe it was best for them to get used to it.
Just as things settled—
"Huh? Wait a second?"
Ayumi-san suddenly perked up, as if she just had an epiphany.
