Volume 17 Chapter 23 The Role Of Ordinary People
"Is something bothering you, Mr. Bernard?"
Rath asked.
"I was feeling a bit out of it just now."
"Huh? Oh, it's just... you know."
Bernard chuckled awkwardly.
"Back in the days of the Uralis Kingdom, I used to explore dungeons like this all the time. I was reminiscing about that."
"You were a royal sorcerer in Uralis, right? I heard you had some adventures in various guilds after that..."
"Well, yeah."
"That's impressive. You've fought in many different places, Mr. Bernard."
"Haha, I just went with the flow. I'm not all that great. There's always someone better."
"No, you're pretty amazing, Mr. Bernard."
"The real wonders are you and Rain. As you know, Rain has got it all figured out, and you──you're a genius with the sword."
Honestly, coming from someone like me who barely fits the mold of an average person, Rain's extraordinary power and Rath's talented swordsmanship seem dazzling.
That's why I want to be of help.
I want to support you so that you can fully unleash that talent.
Just then.
"──There's something here."
Mirabell stopped in her tracks.
"What do you mean?"
Bernard focused his gaze ahead.
It would have been great if Rosa were here to spot the enemies, but unfortunately, she seems to have been sent somewhere else.
Victor isn't here either, so are they together?
He hopes they're okay──
"I used to be an assassin. I'm really good at sensing presences. Really good."
Mirabell said, puffing out her chest.
"Impressive."
"W-wait, could it be this presence──"
Ziredurzo's voice trembled.
"I've heard of this in the legends of the Demon World... the Guardian of Stars... surpassing both man and beast, possessing the powers of the heavens──"
"If you wish to pass beyond this point, defeat me."
Suddenly, a man appeared there.
Until just now, there was no sign of his presence or magic power──
"Who the heck is this... !?"
"I am the guardian of this level, this area. If you want to reach the center of the stars, show me your strength to surpass me."
He was a warrior clad in purple armor from head to toe.
In his hand, he held a trident, and the armor was designed to resemble fish, giving an overall 'ocean' vibe.
"I am one of the [Arch Legion] at the rank of the [Violet Vanguard]. The name is Razerseid."
The warrior introduced himself.
"Arch Legion...? What on earth is going on here...?"
Bernard muttered, furrowing his brow.
There was──one more word that piqued his interest.
The phrase about wanting to go to the center of the star.
"So that's where Rain aims to go."
Bernard fixed his gaze on Razerseid.
"If defeating you leads to... Rain, Victor, and Rosa waiting ahead."
He readied his staff.
It was the same staff that Rain had once enhanced for him.
"Then there's no choice but to take you down."
The fighting spirit ignited within him.
"Take me down? You think you can, against me?"
Razerseid raised the trident in his right hand.
"Our role in the [Arch Legion] is 'selection.' To go to the center of the star, to see if one has the merit to gain great power... and the will to save the star."
WHOOSH...!
A purple glow gathered at the tip of the trident.
"Let's determine if you're true strong ones or mere weaklings──with this single strike."
WHOOSH...!
The glow transformed into a torrent of water, rushing at him like a raging river.
The massive amount of water itself became a deadly weapon.
Against an unavoidable area attack, there were 2 responses.
To defend or to obliterate.
"Darn it, [Firestorm]!"
Bernard chose the latter.
He unleashed a fire magic infused with all his magic power.
WHOOSH....
But Razerseid's torrent extinguished the flames in an instant.
"This guy──"
Bernard trembled.
"The magnitude of his magic power is on another level──!"
The purple glow drew closer.
This is bad, he felt a chill run down his spine.
Mirabell and Rath couldn't use magic.
Bernard was the only one with a countermeasure to this technique.
No, perhaps──
"Demon-level magic──[Scarlet Wave]!"
Suddenly bursting in from the side was Ziredurzo.
A wave of radiant red magic power burst forth from both hands, halting the enemy's water current.
"It's so heavy...!"
Ziredurzo scowled.
Sssss...!
The purple water flow and the red wave of magic power.
Bit by bit, the purple began to push back the red──.
