Volume 2 Chapter 85 Taste Changes So Easily
So, the YouTube video I made with Nakagaito went smoothly.
As I were walking back together part of the way to the station, Nakagaito said,
"I'm planning on going all the way to JR Tsunaduma Station today. Want to grab some ice cream at a convenience store together?"
"Hmm, yeah, sure. But isn't your place along the Keisei Line? Why are you headed to JR Tsunaduma? There aren't many shops or anything there."
"Well, it's not a big deal. There are lots of department stores and shopping malls at both the north and south exits of Tsunaduma Station, so it's convenient for shopping. And Kenbune Funabashi Station is close to both the Keisei Line and JR, so there are shops nearby either way. But JR Tsunaduma and Keisei Tsunaduma are pretty far apart, you know."
"Yeah, it's not that far if you take the New Keisei Line to New Tsunaduma, but it's still a decent walk."
So, we took the bus along Maronie Street and headed north until we reached the south exit of JR Tsunaduma Station.
"Which convenience store is around here?"
"There was one halfway down Maronie Street, but it's pretty far from the station. Maybe the one near Komori Forest? There's a pretty good oil soba place along the way, and a couple of big 100 yen shops too. Want to check it out?"
"That sounds good."
"Just be careful with the 100 yen shops, you could easily spend 1000 yen without realizing it."
"I know, right?"
We chatted like that and headed to the convenience store.
As we were looking at the ice cream aisle, Nakagaito seemed conflicted.
"Hmm, should I just go with classic vanilla? But I also can't resist green tea or strawberry..."
"You have 2 exchange coupons, and I'd even be willing to pay for one more."
"I'll chip in for one too, maybe a macadamia nut flavor?"
"We can probably manage 4 of those. They're pretty small anyway."
So, Nakagaito picked out 4 mini cups: vanilla, green tea, strawberry, and macadamia nut, and put them in her basket before heading to the register.
"I'll have this and 2 iced coffees, please. And 2 spoons too."
"Okay, so 2 tickets each for these? Would you like to pay for the rest with cash?"
"Yes, cash for the rest."
So we paid at the register, I got my ice cream cup, filled it up at the coffee machine, grabbed milk and sweetener, along with a stirrer, and we headed to the eat-in area.
"Alright, let's dig in!"
"Uh, can I eat it too?"
"Of course! You're watching our video, after all, right?"
"Oh, uh, yeah."
And then Nakagaito smirked playfully and said,
"Actually, what kind of presence do I have for you?"
I thought about it for a moment before answering.
"Well, Nakagaito is an indispensable partner for me - someone I can always count on."
When I said that, Nakagaito blushed and looked away, saying.
"Oh, uh, really...Thank you..."
"Well, you know, since our first encounter was like that, there's no need for you to be shy or hold back around me. You know, it's fine."
"I guess thinking back on it now, I wonder what made me do that. Let's just leave it in the past."
"Well, the past is the past. But hey, you're not as uncomfortable around people now as you used to be, right? Like the saying goes, 'What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.'"
"Yeah, that's good. So, what flavor are you getting?"
"Hmm, I'll stick with vanilla and macadamia nut. Safe bet."
"Don't you like green tea?"
I gave a small chuckle and replied.
"I've never really been into those matcha or chocolate flavors."
"That's a shame. They're both delicious."

And Nakagaito pointed to the cup of green tea.
"Why not try a little bit?"
"Hmm, then just a little."
And I scooped the ice cream from the green tea cup and brought it to my mouth.
"Huh, it's tasty? I don't like matcha or chocolate flavors, so I haven't eaten them for a long time."
"I feel like I'm not good at it, when did I eat it the last time?"
"I think it was probably in kindergarten."
"Well, maybe matcha or chocolate aren't for everyone when they're young. But if you enjoy them now, why not try a few other flavors?"
"Yeah, you're right. It's a shame to miss out on things you haven't tried."
"Sure, I'll share some of what I'm having. Here, take a bite of this macadamia nut."
"Oh, yeah.Macadamia nut and almond ice cream is really good, isn't it?"
"I agree."
"It's nice to share different kinds of ice cream like this. You can't really split cones, and they're often pricier anyway. This works well though."
"We'll be in this hot weather for a while, so it's not a bad idea to enjoy something like this sometimes."
"Come to think of it, we could probably make shaved ice too."
"Wouldn't making shaved ice be a bit difficult?"
"You won't know until you try it."
"Mhmm, that's true."
"Well, conversations like this with a friend you feel comfortable with are nice."
