Volume 6 Chapter 24 The Embarrassment When the Metaphor You Thought You Knew Doesn't Work

"So? What are you going to do in the end?"

Randy, with a sigh, looked at Abel, who was slowly regaining a glimmer of light in his eyes.

(I see. There's a trigger that activates it, but his personality isn't always off.)

At what timing does the original personality appear?

A hypothesis formed in Randy's mind regarding the remaining mystery.

Given the current state of the man, it was assumed that the brainwashed personality sinks into the subconscious over time.

"With regular brainwashing, I'd try hitting him... but,"

Randy sighed, and Abel shook his head slightly, saying, "That'll just get him killed."

"You idiot. I can hold back that much."

Snorting, Randy slapped the man's face with an open hand.

A crisp sound echoed in the dungeon... and then

 "It hurts!"

The man glares at Randy as if he were shooting him.

His cheeks are red, but no damage is seen.

Satisfied with the man's condition, Randy turned to Abel with a smug look on his face.

 "What?

 "Really"

The man still says, "Hey!", and other anger sounds and murderous intent, where the wind blows.

Randy and Abel are excited because they can do Randy's sensibility.

 That's not the case.

 Just a light tap.

Even though this is said, it's a very low-level story where you'll be praised just because you've done it.

"Well, I can do this and do it in a way that's how it goes..."

"If that's the case, why don't you keep hitting me until I wake up?"

Abel said something terrifying and expressionless, and the man's face twitched in a clear way.

"No. That could make things even more complicated."

Shaking his head, Randy says that brainwashing that a man suffers would be unconventional.

Compared to the brainwashing of ordinary people who lived their normal lives, their brainwashing is more unstable, and it feels like they are forced.

"It's not just about rewriting normal thoughts, it's like creating a different personality... that's how it is."

When Randy turns to the man, he says, "Hey. Tell me what you belong to," the man's eyes become dark and hollow.

 "... Kill me"

A man who just says that is the right response for a person living in the shadows.

However, the man who just said that Randy was angry at him, apparently looks like a different person.

"Because the resistance is strong, has he created another personality in his subconscious?"

Randy, peering into the man's vacant eyes, murmured, "Or perhaps..." and averted his gaze from those eyes.

"To protect his own mind, did he create a new personality as a form of self-defense?"

Either way, what Randy considers from the man's demeanor is more about dissociation than brainwashing.

It might be close to dissociative identity disorder.

Of course, Randy knows that term as multiple personality disorder.

 But he only knows it.

"Multiple personality disorder is a bit much... Psychology is beyond my expertise."

With a frown, Randy heard Abel cheerfully say, "My specialty is only body language."

 "Shut it."

Randy snorted, but in reality, his specialty is indeed body language, as Abel said.

Of course, he has some understanding of other areas, but when it comes to such a complex mental illness, Randy is at a loss.

"Abel. You're a magician of illusions, right?"

Randy tilted his head, and Abel nodded slightly with a "hm."

Using Abel's magic to show illusions and confronting those guys with their own subconscious in Victor's style... Randy thought that for a moment, but then shook his head, thinking, "Never mind."

"If it goes wrong, they could end up as shells of their former selves."

As Randy sighed, he knew that if they failed, the men's minds would shatter and never return to normal.

If they were to inflict even stronger fear or shock, the dissociation known as brainwashing might progress even further.

To be specific, there's a possibility that another personality could emerge to escape the fear of Randy.

The men are most likely from Shadler, and the reason they came to Victor might not be commendable.

However, Randy has no interest in toying with the man's mind before his charges are confirmed.

"I said I'd try to unravel it, but it's a bit much for us."

As Randy muttered and turned his back to the men, saying, "I'll ask you after Liz comes back,"

 "Young master──"

Suddenly appearing, Keith bowed respectfully to Randy and said, "A guest has arrived."

 "A guest?"

Randy furrowed his brows dramatically, but indeed, if he thought about it, there was a familiar presence right above them.

 "...Tell them to go home."

 "That cannot be done."

Keith shook his head, and Randy pouted, asking, "Why not?"

"I hear you're the one in charge."

Just as Keith smiled, a familiar voice echoed through the dungeon, "Hey, how long are you going to keep me waiting!"

The sound of footsteps clattering down the stairs announced her arrival...

 "I'm busy, you know!"

...it was Catherine, the pink monster, puffing out her cheeks.

With her arms crossed, Catherine lounged near the entrance of the dungeon, and Randy wore a weary expression as he spoke.

 "Change."

"You want me to punch you or something?"

Catherine raised an eyebrow and stomped down the dungeon corridor with heavy steps.

 "I said 'change'──"

Randy leaned back slightly, and sensing danger, Abel hid behind Randy, muttering, "It's your fault."

Pushing past Keith, Catherine appeared right in front of Randy, who let out a dramatic sigh.

"It's been a few days, Miss Catherine."

 "That's right."

"You said after spring break... right?"

 "I did say that."

Without a hint of remorse, Catherine pouted and continued about the supervision of personnel dispatched by the Church.

Given the unprecedented scale of the Church's dispatch, a figure to legitimize their presence to the country was necessary.

That figure was none other than Catherine, the Saint.
