Volume 6 Chapter 17-2 Town Creation: The Concept is Important
Keith told Randy that this design was developed by the group of engineers he hired at Lucian's request.
"The masters can do anything, huh?"
"It's the result of the young master's keen insight."
Just as Keith happily smiled, it was indeed the engineers that Randy hired in exchange for the technology of the carriage.
Thanks to their efforts, various engineers now expressed a desire to work in Victor Territory.
"The cycle of development in the territory is progressing nicely."
Randy nodded thoughtfully, but he knew the journey was still far from over.
The heat-retaining innerwear would likely be established with the launch of this town, but there were still geothermal heating equipment left unfinished.
"There's so much to do."
"Indeed. Spring break might fly by."
The town mayor suggested a sofa to Randy, who exchanged happy glances with Liz.
Enjoying the comfortable sofa, a stark contrast to the simplicity of the building, Randy promptly turned his gaze back to Keith and the mayor to begin the discussion.
"Now then. First, I'm sorry for the trouble my actions caused."
"Not at all. In fact, I'm looking forward to hearing your opinions."
Randy shrugged in response to Keith's smile, saying, "It's nothing special."
"Are you talking about cannons or ballistae?"
Keith tilted his head playfully, prompting Randy to snort with, "Are you an idiot?"
"I said it's nothing special. It's about stylish cafes."
Keith and the town mayor, sitting opposite Randy, were momentarily taken aback by his words.
"What did you say...?"
"Wait..."
"A cafe, you say?"
Randy pouted at the two, who looked puzzled, stating, "Wouldn't it be great?"
"Well, a cafe sounds fine, but... is there really that much demand?"
When Keith tilted his head in confusion, Randy grinned and replied, "It's not about there being ' demand,' we have to create it," and began to elaborate on the concept and ambiance of the town.
Randy's concept of the town is, quite simply, a fashion street based on fiber industry.
Fiber industry items like heat-retaining innerwear and kotatsu futons are already showing profit.
In addition, he plans to conduct a wide-ranging business from custom-made dresses to ready-made clothing.
Naturally, Clarice's design workshop will be the pioneer.
The designs that even Liz admires as "amazing" received high praise from Catherine and Cecilia as well.
"It's still at the idea stage, but once the workshop is established and on track, I intend to reach out to Sir Cedric."
Sales would be conducted through the merchant guilds held by Cedric and Lucian.
Of course, they could also establish their own merchant guild, but relying on Lucian and others who have more distribution channels is more efficient.
"If fashion sparks interest, the number of visitors will certainly increase, especially from nobles and daughters of merchant guilds."
Liz nodded in agreement with Randy's explanation.
"Originally, this town was expanded to produce heat-retaining innerwear, but if we are going to make it, we should also sell it."
"You are certainly correct," acknowledged Keith.
Not only Keith, but the town mayor also nodded.
"However, do we have that much capacity?"
With his monocle shining, Keith continued, noting that it was originally planned to focus solely on heat-retaining innerwear.
The addition of kotatsu futons was a new development, but shouldn't be a particular problem.
Neither involves particularly difficult tasks.
However, once design is added, and with the inclusion of custom-made dresses and general clothing items, the capacity would undeniably be exceeded.
"Don't worry,"
Randy grinned and tossed several sheets of paper to Keith.
It was that list he received from Catherine when leaving the royal capital.
"Starting with those who made clerical garments at the Church, I plan to bring in a large number of talented individuals strong in fashion."
In front of Randy, Keith and the town mayor are wide-eyed as they scroll through the paper.
Catherine had summarized it clearly, making it easy to see who possesses what skills at a glance.
"Of course, we also need to create fields for Igniforia(a type of dry grass) and cotton, so we need strong personnel for that as well. There are various other things too."
As Randy said, initially, they would rely heavily on imports for Fiber materials, but they plan to turn the surrounding area into a massive cotton field later.
And with the establishment of the town, there will be other areas that require manpower.
They plan to allocate personnel from the Church to those areas, not all, but some.
"Well, this is how I envisioned it..."
Randy scratched his head, and Keith looked up from his notes with a smile.
"This Keith underestimated the young master."
Keith bowed deeply, and Randy waved his hand, saying, "No need for that."
"As for personnel and such, that's just playing a game of rock-paper-scissors after the fact. With this information, you and the old man should have been able to see this level of vision."
Randy snorted, and Keith merely feigned ignorance, asking, "So?"
"The young master's vision... of course, not everything will go as planned, but let's use it as a significant guideline for reference."
"I see. Then I'll leave the overall image and various matters to you."
Randy exhaled deeply, and Keith tilted his head slightly, saying, "That's fine, but..."
"The layout of the town and its sections would be better suited for the town mayor or you than for me."
As Randy pointed out, it's questionable whether a novice could create boxes here and there and have it function as a town.
It would be better for someone familiar with the town to handle it.
"Besides, I have something to do with Liz starting tomorrow."
"What do you mean by that?"
"It's obvious. We're building my sister Clarice's workshop."
Randy smiled, and Keith nodded with a smile, saying, "I see."
