Volume 6 Chapter 12 The Truth is What Grandpa Always Said
A clue pointing to Ellie's whereabouts.
Randy thinks it must be here.
Hearing those words, Ellie has remained silent with her eyes closed.
Is she tracing her memories?
Or perhaps seeking Liz's opinion?
Randy doesn't know, but he understands he should let her be.
(A clue... oh right, the orb dropped in the dungeon.)
What comes to Randy's mind is the orb──the one that sealed the ancient king, which dropped in the fifth layer of the dungeon.
Leaving behind the key was likely to strengthen the sealing imposed by the sorcery Ellie mentioned.
The key was made so that it could only be *opened by* that key.
As Randy comes to this conclusion, a question crosses his mind.
──"You can obtain the ancient magic book."
The reward must have been [Moonshadow Stone (Silver Orb)] or [Sunlight Stone (Golden Orb (B*all))] and the magic book for Holy Magic that Catherine can learn.
Remembering this, Randy called out to "Miss Catherine," who was searching the coffin a short distance away.
"What happened to the magic book for clearing the dungeon?"
"Who knows? I want to know too."
Shrugging, Catherine continues, suggesting that it was likely obtained by whoever first cleared the dungeon.
"There were no treasures inside the dungeon."
Indeed, as Catherine said, there is a higher chance someone has already found and taken it since it's reality.
"Then why did the golden bal──orb drop?"
Just avoiding sexual harassment, Randy found himself faced with Catherine, who grimaced and spoke, "That's out."
"Of course, it would. There must be a backing from Edgar's royal bloodline."
Sighing, Catherine discusses the possibility that the magic book could be granted through some trigger.
"So, one of the advance team must have been a relative of Lady Charlotte..."
"I can't say for sure. After all, in the game, it's given to me."
Randy swallowed the words that had almost escaped to his lips as Catherine shrugged.
He was about to say that, but instead, Randy shook his head with a wry smile, saying, "No, no, no."
"You're thinking something rude again, aren't you?"
To Catherine, who glared at him, Randy shook his head again, but whether it was rude or not depended on her perspective.
"It's not just blood relations, right? When this underground ruin was first discovered, the Church apparently sent the Saint of the time."
According to Catherine, due to the goddess statue above, the Church had also sent several Saints and Church Knights thinking it might be a ruin related to the goddess.
"There's a possibility the Saint could be the key, too."
Sighing, Catherine continued, saying that in the game, the divine oracle starts to be heard around the time the magic book is obtained.
"Dungeon exploration is slower than in the game, and I can't hear the oracle now, so maybe the magic book was really the trigger for it."
In front of such Catherine, Randy was about to utter, "You're too mundane; the goddess must have lost interest in you..." but he swallowed the words again.
Liz would surely get mad if he derailed further.
So, Randy, having held back his words, shifted his focus to something he was curious about.
"By the way... what is the oracle like?"
"What is it like... well..."
Catherine, deep in thought, seemed to be tracing back her memories.
"At first, it's something abstract like 'free that girl.'"
"'Free...?'"
Catherine told Randy that there were various crises reported to her.
However, towards the end of the game, there are also direct expressions like "save Eleonora."
"Does that mean...?"
"Now that I think about it, it might be that person named Charlotte."
Sighing, Catherine admitted that since it wasn't elaborated in the game, she couldn't know more than that.
However, there are many ways to come to terms with the situation when you think of Ellie's best friend Charlotte, who is delivering her voice.
"That means the magic book might have been a crucial key item."
Randy, shoulders slumped, looked up at the ceiling, hoping Catherine had stayed at the Church, but she completely denied it.
"I've checked every book in the Church's library."
Randy couldn't stop his surprise at Catherine's unexpected diligence.
"I'm a gamer and a reincarnator. It's only natural."
Catherine excitedly explained that enjoying difficult magic books since her reincarnation as a child was the mark of a true reincarnator.
To Randy, the typical path after reincarnation would be to defeat beasts in the nearby forest, but it seemed the path changes with time and people.
That said, this wasn't the time to discuss the typical route of reincarnators.
According to Catherine, after exploring the dungeon, she was so curious that she rummaged through the Church's collection again but found nothing.
Even though she claimed to have used a human wave tactic, she still found nothing.
"If only we could at least understand the content... Do you remember what kind of magic it was?"
"Well, it might be a purge-type magic. It removes buffs cast on the opponent... something like that."
Catherine, making a gesture as if recalling something, clapped her hands and said, "Speaking of which..."
"I remember the item description of the magic book. It had a mysterious line that became quite a topic."
With a beaming smile, Catherine revealed...
"'The Beginning of...'"
...a rather profound phrase.
('The Beginning of'... it could be thought of as restoring the opponent's buff state.)
As Randy crossed his arms, ruminating on that short word,
"Randy!"
"Whoa, you scared me."
Startled by Ellie's sudden shout, Randy jumped and turned around.
"What's up all of a sudden?"
"I might have figured it out."
Randy was taken aback, staring at Ellie's dazed face, "Huh? Seriously?"
"About your conversation earlier──"
"You were listening?"
"I could hear you. Your voices were ridiculously loud."
With a sigh, Luke said, "Sorry," and Randy returned a wry smile, but Ellie claimed that thanks to that, she had come up with an idea.
