Volume 6 Chapter 10 It's Not Good To Line Up Coffins And Build Ruins On Top Of Them. (Self, Part Reflection)
"Now, let me share my findings."
Ellie, sitting haughtily, began to discuss the intricate magic techniques applied to the door.
"First, this door is a magic tool that transcends time and space."
"So, it's a time machine door?"
Randy gave a wry smile, to which Ellie raised an eyebrow and Catherine made a grand grimace, saying, "Don't interrupt the conversation!"
"Well, Eleonora, let's ignore this fool."
In response to Catherine, Randy pouted, saying, "Hey, I'm the leader here!" while Luke restrained Randy by holding him back.
"Alright then. Let's continue──"
Ellie sighed and continued, stating that the time-space the door can cross is limited.
For instance, there's the dungeon ahead.
Or the dungeon in case a silver sphere is inserted.
It seems that it can only transport to these specific locations.
Although the door looks like a limited magic tool, its true form is a highly advanced sealing technique linked to murals.
"A magic that seals across time and space... No, it could be seen as a media for the sealing magic circle that uses *murals*."
"Magic circle? That inefficient thing?"
Randy recalled the paper that Ellie had discovered previously.
It was a remnant from the [Pilgrim of Truth], told by Ellie to be a technology that faded due to its inefficiency.
"But isn't it different from a formation?"
To Randy's tilted head, Ellie let out a sigh and said, "To put it simply,"
"It's not a formation, but instead, it paints murals with a magic-like medium and seals it into the time-space beyond the door *instead of chanting*... that's the magic."
Although it was Ellie's explanation, it was Cecilia who tilted her head in confusion.
"Using murals for chanting... is that so?"
"To put it simply, that's it."
To Cecilia's question, Ellie──and even Randy──began to explain simply the relationship between magic and image.
After all, this was something that had been discussed many times before, so even Randy understood it.
"Magic is an image... so, does that mean the content of the mural is the image itself?"
"To put it another way, by *limiting the target and the solution*, it strengthens the image... one could say the seal is made more robust."
Everyone turned to the mural at Ellie's words.
If this mural and the cipher itself are incantations, and if they further limit the target, then it undoubtedly means the 'Old King' is sealed.
"Even though it's sealed, it goes out of its way to record the method to break it... so, can we understand that this recorded method is the incantation, making the seal stronger?"
Randy turned around, and Ellie nodded, saying, "Indeed."
"I see..."
Randy murmured, glancing back at the mural with the deciphered text in hand.
'Seal the Old King upon the axis of lost time
When gold and silver are stained by black flames, the shining coordinates sink into the abyss
The one who holds the qualification stands in the shadow of the dark moon and gathers the light of heaven
Then the door of darkness shall be opened.'
"The Old King is sealed upon the axis of lost time."
Randy murmured, and Ellie, standing beside him, nodded.
"Gold and silver... that refers to that orb, but I don't understand the black flames──"
"The shining coordinates must refer to this world."
At Ellie's words, Randy furrowed his brow at the phrase 'sinking into the abyss.'
It felt like a line suggesting the end of the world.
"The one with the qualification is the owner of that orb..."
"The dark moon must be the new moon."
Ellie was gazing at the large circular mural.
There is still time until the next new moon, but a new moon is not a particularly rare phenomenon that occurs every month.
However, what caught Randy's attention was the second circle from the outside of the circle.
"This probably represents the seasons."
Divided into 4 parts, each with 3 subdivisions, it undoubtedly represents the 4 seasons and 12 months.
Each small subdivision is adorned with seasonal flowers representing the major months in this world.
"From my sense, I think the start is spring..."
"The topmost part clearly represents early summer."
As Ellie said, due to the slight misalignment of the 4 divisions, the topmost part can be called early summer.
In terms of the months in this world, it would be around June.
"If the new moon of the lunar month is at the very top, and June is also at the top, does that mean it's the new moon in June?"
"No, there's a discrepancy between the old calendar and the current one... if we assume it's a thousand years ago, it would be around July to August now."
Lucius nodded to Ellie's explanation, saying "Indeed."
It could also be said that it was right around the time Randy encountered Liz and Ellie.
"Then, assuming it's July..."
Putting aside the trio's meeting for now, Randy again compared the mural with the deciphered text.
"The light of the heavens means gathering the light of the new moon at that time, right...?"
Frowning and crossing his arms, Randy had Annabelle raise her hand and say, "Um, um..."
"Could it be the Shadow Moon Mirror?"
"Shadow Moon Mirror... that thing, right? The one that's in the old school building!"
Startled by Randy's sudden shout, Annabelle nodded, her shoulders shaking slightly.
It is said to be a mysterious item that reveals the final riddle of the 'Seven Wonders', [Tower of the New Moon].
"It's supposed to reflect the shadows of the moon, right?"
"Y-Yes. But during the new moon, it reflects the light of the full moon from the other side."
Lucius nodded beside Annabelle as she explained.
"I see... the dark shadow of the moon and the light of the heavens. Considering the moon reflects the sun, it fits perfectly, but──"
Following Randy, who suddenly looked up at the ceiling, everyone mirrored his action and gazed upwards.
The ceiling, though not low, lacked light; Randy stopped his thought midway, saying "How to gather it..." and suddenly turned back to the stairs.
"What's gotten into you suddenly?"
Startled by the intensity, Cecilia furrowed her brow, but Randy just shouted "Up!" and dashed alone towards the stairs.
The others, panicked, chased after him, rushing up the stairs like Randy... to the base of the goddess statue.
"What on earth is going on?"
"It's the statue."
Randy looked up at the massive goddess statue.
It was still before noon, and with it being winter, the sunlight was gentle now, but that would change by noon.
As Randy gazed at the statue, he jumped up.
Everyone below looked up at Randy, who was plastered against the face of the statue, which stood at least 15 meters tall.
(If my intuition is correct...)
