Volume 5 Chapter 61, Part 2 It's Tough When You're Told to Your Face

"Ah, then shall we go home for a bit? I want to take a bath at home after a long time."

"Sounds good. I haven't bathed in a while either."

Once that was decided, Liz's teleportation enveloped the two, and when the light settled, they were no longer in the hall.

As the two took off from the hall...

"Lady Catherine Evans! You are our benefactor!"

...Catherine was being shaken hands with such strength by Rolf that it felt like her arm might break.

 "W-wait, it hurts! My arm──"

Rolf, hearing Catherine's scream, hurriedly let go, saying, "I apologize for that."

Airen took over for Rolf, saying he couldn't contain his gratitude and firmly grasped Catherine's hand.

"Miss Catherine, thank you. You are undoubtedly a Saint now."

Seeing Airen's smile, Catherine's mouth twitched, and she switched her expression to Saint mode.

"Oh no, I'm still quite inexperienced."

The air became tense enough to see the letters clearly.

Catherine knew she had definitely messed up, but she was unaware that her way of speaking was the problem.

"...Miss Catherine, I don't want to say this, but..."

 "W-what is it?"

Airen, with a wry smile, continued with a sigh.

"I think that way of speaking is not good."

 "Huh? Why? Isn't it cute?"

Leon sighed from behind, saying to the surprised Catherine,

"It's not cute. Sir Randolph said the same thing, 'It makes me want to punch you.'"

"Huh? Did he really say that?"

"What? Didn't he tell you directly?"

Catherine was searching her memory, saying to the tilting Leon, "I feel like I might have heard that, but I'm not sure."

"But still... I don't think it was that bad."

Pouting, Catherine shook her head in disbelief.

"No. I agree with young Randolph. It made me want to punch you."

Airen smirked, and Leon, Rolf, and Airen laughed as they looked at Catherine, who knelt and said, "Ah, it was my identity."

While Catherine was feeling crushed, the Knights were inspecting the merchant guild Veritas ruins outside Blankfurt.

Officially, it was supposed to be an explosion of the merchant guild Veritas's goods, but now that the building had collapsed, the Knights decided to only set up a cordon for now.

"I can't believe an explosion really happened..."

As the Knight muttered, the building had still been standing when they arrived, but small explosions had occurred several times, flattening the structure completely.

 "Could this be the cause──"

One Knight brought a broken magic stone.

It seemed that the magic stone used in a magic tool had gone out of control due to some influence.

That was the conclusion based on what they knew so far.

"Even if it's rotten, it's still a backdoor group..."

They were covering up evidence in case something happened.

 There's no doubt about it.

 "The cordon is set up."

After hearing his subordinate's report, the Knight said, "Leave a squad behind," and took a few men with him as he withdrew.

Though the building had collapsed, they needed to watch over it to prevent any further loss of evidence from fire or other causes.

At the same time, some shadows watched the Knights from a nearby building...

 "Was the [North Wall] strong?"

'Who knows? Aren't you the stronger one?'

Echoing in the void, Elliot's voice made the man in black mutter, "I see."

"To survive with just a soul in such a gem... Truly [Wisdom]."

When the man in black spread his palm, there was a small pulsating gem.

'Well, it's a trick only I can do.'

The gem, grinning foolishly, boasted that it had transcended death thanks to this.

'By the way, didn't you say you were assigned to the south?'

"I was called before heading south. I was told to come pick you up, and then I saw... this mess."

The man in black sighed as he rolled the gem on his palm.

'You're noisy. This is all part of the "plan", right?'

"Yes. Everything is in the hands of that person... Just──"

 'Just?'

 "No, it's nothing."

The figure in black scanned the distant castle for signs.

He sensed the presence of someone he was concerned about... but it seemed he couldn't detect anything, so he gave up and shook his head.

"There's no need to worry. I say it's just a minor error."

The figure in black murmured to himself and vanished.

What remained was only the slightly waning moon, visible in the suddenly clear sky.
