Volume 5 Chapter 50 Well, It's Still the Structure of victims and Perpetrators
The day after reuniting with Cedric, Randy was heading to the capital of Marquis Waldner's territory with everyone.
Despite being a group that included Randy, who had faced bad luck for the past few days, the sky was a bright blue, as if to blow away his misfortunes.
"I'm glad it's clear."
"Yes. If it snows, it will probably be much harder."
Smiling Liz looked just like she did during winter vacation in her fluffy outfit.
And that wasn't all.
She was fully equipped with a hat and earmuffs, even more than before.
Even with heat-retaining innerwear, the reason for her heavy winter gear was that Randy and the others were traveling by sled.
The sled, pulled by a huge beast called Frosthorn, unique to the north, had a simple snow shield roof and windbreak, but the cargo area was not completely covered.
In other words, it was exposed to the outside air.
According to Liz, they switched from the carriage to this sled after entering Marquis Waldner's territory for a while.
Due to the snow and ice covering the town, regular carriages were useless, and the movement of people and goods in this area was mainly by sled.
Compared to wheels, moving on runners is very difficult.
If the load is too heavy, it becomes hard to pull, and the dangers of going downhill increase.
Thus, the standard weight for carts is kept to a necessary minimum.
While high-end sleds running through the town might have box-shaped cargo areas, heavy cargo areas become a hindrance when moving on hilly town roads.
Additionally, the skills required from the coachman are completely different.
The ability to glide smoothly over the snow and to skillfully handle the bcoachman, even if it is docile, is not something Harrison or even the Marquis's coachman has mastered.
Therefore, the group was forced to travel with a rented sled, and thus they boarded the exposed cargo area, fully equipped...
"I never thought there would be commercial goods rolling around in a place like this."
Next to murmuring Randy, Liz nodded, "That's right."
Both of them were fully covered, but at their feet, there was a blanket made of Frost Horn fur and a kotatsu made by Catherine hidden beneath it.
On regular journeys, they would hide hot stones, but the power of the kotatsu, which maintains a constant temperature, is immense under this cold sky.
This will sell.
There's definitely a high demand.
There are things you can only see by experiencing them.
He thought a kotatsu wouldn't work with shoes, but it's surprisingly adaptable.
Just confirming that makes this sled journey worthwhile.
So I must assist Cedric and Catherine well.
As Randy thought this, a huge castle wall came into view.
"Wow. Is that Blankfurt?"
The large black castle wall was striking against the white snow piled around it, easily visible from afar.
"It looks pretty lively, though."
Randy narrowed his eyes and saw several sleds under the castle wall.
"It's a rare sunny day. They must be bustling with the transport of goods."
At Liz's words, Randy recalled the situation in Marquis Waldner's territory.
Since Marquis Waldner's land is on high ground, the development of the canal has not progressed.
The difference in elevation makes the cost and technology for building canals high.
For various reasons, logistics are mainly overland.
(A canal with elevation changes... I think there was something like that.)
With his vague knowledge, he can't recall anything like a lock-type canal, just a faint memory of something.
While Randy was searching through that hazy memory, the sled reached the base of the wall.
Since the sled is a rental, you can't tell just by appearance if people from the Marquis Braubelg family or Saints are on it.
While Miranda and Leon presented their situation and respective crests to the gatekeeper, Randy poked Harrison, who was dozing off in front.
"You could say you're Victor too, you know."
"What are you talking about? I've never been recognized by the name Victor anywhere, not even in a place like this."
Randy gave a wry smile back to Harrison, who was laughing loudly.
In fact, what Harrison said was true; names like Victor might not even be known in the kingdom, let alone in the Dukedom.
Recently, thanks to the commotion during Winter vacation, the name became known, but it's still clear that they are just a small-town noble.
Cedric and Catherine, not to mention the members of [Iron Falcon Steel] who accompanied as guards, are definitely more famous in this place.
In fact, it's become such that the two sleds with Cedric and Catherine are mentioned alongside "the guards" as if on the same level as [Iron Falcon Steel].
Leonard from the adventurer party showed a wry smile to Randy, who was led through another gate alongside their sleds.
"...[Randy Exploration Team]. You were the noble heir, huh?"
"Well, it's true that I'm a servant."
As Randy returned a wry smile, the main focus this time is definitely Catherine and Cedric.
Randy and Liz merely serve as buffers between Cedric and Catherine.
Even that has become less necessary during this journey that has lasted over ten days.
With each of the main 2 in their respective sleds leading the way, the extras, including Randy, followed through the massive castle gate.
"This is amazing!"
What spread out before Randy and the others was a lively town scene that could melt the piled snow.
Sleds passed by, and warm steam rose from several shops facing the street.
Just that alone made their chilled bodies crave warmth, almost pulling them into the shops.
