Volume 5 Chapter 49 The Contrast from Sweetness

Randy met up with Liz and Ellie early, but by the time they teleported north, the sun was already starting to set.

They arrived earlier than planned, so Randy wasn't fully prepared yet.

After gathering everything needed and packing──since Randy was the type to prepare on the day──he finally felt ready to teleport as evening settled in.

"Sorry about this. I know you came early."

 He genuinely felt bad.

Randy scratched his head, and Liz shook hers, saying "It's fine."

"Shopping and preparing were fun, so it's all good!"

 Randy found Liz's smile dazzling.

It was indeed enjoyable to finally roam the capital together again after so long.

Strolling leisurely without the dark side or the empire watching them wiped away the recent worries.

Of course, the preparations that followed were great too.

Even though Ellie and Liz scolded him for "preparing on the day," the chaotic atmosphere made him feel that everyday life had finally returned.

"Also, we wanted to see you soon..."

Liz smiled, but suddenly her face flushed, and she shook her head vigorously.

"Ah, when I said we wanted to see you, I was worried about whether you were okay... you know. The, uh, test too──"

Seeing Liz flustered was a rare sight, and Randy couldn't help but chuckle.

"I wanted to see you too, so this worked out perfectly."

Randy flashed a smile, and Liz's face turned even redder...

"What are you two flirting about?"

...The frowning face of Ellie appeared.

 "We're not flirting!"

Randy frowned, and Ellie snorted in response.

Randy couldn't help but smile at Ellie's typical attitude.

"I feel bad for you, but for now, I'm glad your body is still missing."

 Ellie frowned at his words.

"See? You got to see my face with Liz, right? If your body was here, you'd definitely come back──and what's wrong?"

Randy's unexpected remark made Ellie's face red this time.

"Y-You fool! My face is nothing special, and besides, I'm with Liz!"

"You're not the same at all! It's completely different. For example──"

 "Enough! This is pointless!"

Liz appeared again, her cheeks puffed in apparent frustration.

"Are you mad?" Randy asked cautiously.

"She says you know nothing about your 'womanizing' ways," Liz replied with a wry smile.

"I'm not trying to be a playboy, though," Randy sighed.

"I genuinely just wanted to see you sooner."

Liz scratched her cheek awkwardly. "I understand that, so... no need to stress."

"Shall we head back now? Everyone might be worried," she suggested.

"Yeah. Plus, I have some interesting stories for Sir Cedric."

The mysterious group and the Fourth Prince were just some of the things Randy wanted to discuss.

 "Got everything?"

"No need for the uniform. I'm all set," Randy confirmed.

Given Randy's history of forgetting essential items, Liz had double-checked everything with him to avoid issues.

 "Then let's go──"

Liz activated her teleportation spell, enveloping them in light.

"Why are you taking so long...?"

Cedric muttered, arms crossed and face grim.

"Elder Brother, why are you at this inn?"

"The young master has been waiting since noon, worried about you."

Rita explained with a wry smile as Miranda looked exasperated.

"Can you blame me? You went to the capital and never returned."

Cedric huffed, cheeks puffing. "What if you got caught up in something dangerous?" he added, glaring at Liz.

"Sorry, I just wasn't done preparing."

 Randy explained, bowing slightly.

He briefly recounted how he and Liz had been busy with shopping and preparations.

"...Is that really all?" Cedric pressed, stepping closer with an intense gaze.

 "Y-Yeah?"

 Randy stammered, glancing at Liz.

"We just had lunch together too, but that's part of the city stroll" Liz added thoughtfully.

"I see... then I guess it's fine," Cedric sighed, visibly relieved.

Randy and Liz exchanged puzzled looks as Cedric continued to mumble under his breath.

"What's wrong with him?" Randy asked Miranda.

 "I... really can't say."

Miranda replied with a nervous laugh, refusing to elaborate.

But Randy's sharp instincts told him that Miranda's smile was enough of a clue.

 "By the way, where's Harrison?"

 Randy suddenly inquired.

Miranda flinched slightly, confirming Randy's suspicions.

 "I knew it," Randy sighed.

As it turned out, Harrison had been stirring the pot by making cryptic comments like, "It's been a while since the young master and lady had time alone in an empty house."

"I'll go check in with Lady Catherine and Rita."

Liz said, holding a bag of snacks as she left the room.

Watching her retreating figure, Randy turned back to Cedric.

"Well, we'll put Harrison's interrogation on hold for now..."

Randy trailed off, a faint smirk on his face.
