Volume 1 Chapter 69-2 Mean Villainess, Crying
As I muttered that softly, the teacher smiled brightly, so that knight in armor must be here after all.
Such a worrywart.
Just then, the commotion outside the room grew louder.
"Milady! We have secured him!"
I heard the voice of the maid.
Upon hearing that, Mother called out, "Come in!" and then flashed me a smile.
"Now, Elena, shall we begin the matchmaking?"
As she said that.
"Wait, wasn't the matchmaking to become your apprentice, teacher?!"
My father stood up.
"That could be a kind of matchmaking too."
The teacher picked up my father's words, and her response was so carefree that it felt completely out of sync and there was a huge temperature difference.
Under normal circumstances, I might have laughed, saying I'd catch a cold from the temperature difference.
However, I couldn't afford to say such things.
Because the person brought into this room was someone I recognized.
"Rolus!"
Though he was being dragged into the room with both arms held by the servants, he didn't lift his face at all.
Yet I recognized him immediately.
That cowlick is definitely Rolus's.
The moment I thought that, I stood up and rushed over to Rolus.
I had so much to say, like asking where he'd been, that I'd been searching for him, that I was worried, but all those words got stuck in my throat and couldn't come out at all.
"Ro-rolus!"
All I could do now was call Rolus's name.
It was just that, but once our eyes met, tears started flowing and I couldn't even do that anymore.
"Waaah!"
It felt like all my emotions had burst out at once.
Everything was a jumbled mess, and I couldn't understand anything anymore, so I clung to Rolus's body.
"I wonder if it's been since she was a baby that Elena cried out like this."
Mother laughed from behind, but I didn't have the luxury to care about such things.
"O-Oh, Lady."
"Ugh, ugh, I was so lonely..."
When I said that, Rolus awkwardly patted my head.
After that, I couldn't stop crying for a while, and even now, I still can't, but since we won't make progress like this, Mother urged me to sit down.
"If I let go, Rolus might just run off somewhere again."
"Then let Rolus sit there, and Elena, you sit on his lap."
"Understood, Mother."
"Oh, Lady...!"
Rolus didn't seem convinced at all, but since I was okay with it, there was no problem.
I forced Rolus to sit in the chair I had just been in, and I settled on his lap.
The teacher, pleased with this confirmation, smiled and began to speak.
"Now, let's move on. To pass my skills to someone else, I need a contract, and there are several restrictions, so it's troublesome. However, if it's my child, those requirements will be unnecessary."
In short, it implies that inheriting to a child is simpler and smoother than to someone else.
"So, let's make Rolus my son and welcome Ellie as his bride."
Right?
It's simple, isn't it?
The teacher said in a tone that felt like that.
"The fortune I had you read also showed that this would bring Elena the utmost happiness."
Does this mean Mother anticipated all of this before letting Rolus go?
"What do you think?"
Just as I tried to nod in response to the teacher's words, I was interrupted by my father and Elder Brother.
"A-a bride."
"Is there really a need to become a bride?"
What an ungracious remark.
"I don't think I owe any complaints to my father and Elder Brother."
When I said that, both of them looked quite sad.
But,
do they not remember what they did to Rolus?
"Who was it that used the defenseless Rolus, who knew nothing and had no one to rely on, as a shield for spells?"
"Lady...?"
"I've heard it all. I'm sorry, Rolus. It must have been awful for you. You must have been scared. Yet, despite that, please forgive me for wanting to stay together."
The tears that were about to stop began to overflow again.
It felt like all the moisture in my body was about to escape as tears.
"I'm not scared, even if I don't want to. But, but someone like me..."
As Rolus said this, he tightened his grip on my shoulder.
I couldn't tell if he was aware of it or not.
"So, are you really going to leave me behind again?"
When I asked this, Rolus hesitated.
My father, watching this, stood up once more and bowed his head to Rolus.
"Rolus, please. Stay by my daughter's side."
"Y-yes, sir! Please lift your head! I-I understand, I will stay by Lady's side."
"Waaah!"
"Lady!?"
Honestly, I felt a bit sorry for Rolus.
"Then I will prepare the documents for the adoption of Lady Camellia and Mr. Rolus, as well as the marriage documents for Lady Elena and Mr. Rolus."
The words were spoken matter-of-factly by the handsome man who was watching this scene with a smile.
I truly felt sorry for dragging him into our little act.
"Rolus, is this really okay?"
When I suddenly asked, Rolus nodded slightly.
"Isn't it just because you bowed your head to Father that you're forcing yourself?"
"I am not forcing myself. I... I love Lady."
"I love you too, Rolus."
Well, I already knew that Rolus liked me because Flora had foretold it!
"Hehe. I will definitely make Rolus happy."
"...If I may be so bold, Lady, isn't it the other way around?"
"It's not the other way around. I will make Rolus happy. Because if Rolus is happy, then I am happy too."
As I said this, I nuzzled my cheek against Rolus's neck.
