Volume 2 Chapter 43 The Forbidden Archive of the Sage Emperor
I had visited the [Forbidden Archive of the Sage Emperor], owned by the Empire, to research the method of creating artificial mana crystals.
Beneath the castle.
A massive iron door stood before me.
Intricate patterns adorned the surface of the door, radiating magical energy.
"This is the archive, Sir Zeke."
Emperor Sasha touched the door.
"Ah, huh...? How strange. The door won't open. It's supposed to open when a royal touches it..."
That's when it happened.
'Sasha, who's that human?'
The door glowed brightly, and before us appeared a palm-sized fairy.
"[Lilinne]. It's been a while. This is Zeke, the Demon Lord, and... my precious person...♡"
The fairy, called Lilinne, cast a skeptical glare in my direction.
"What's the deal with this girl?"
"This is Lilinne, the fairy tasked with managing the archive. Please guide him inside."
However, the fairy stuck out her tongue.
'No way! This place is restricted to royals! Like I'd ever let in some shady guy!'
Well, she had a point.
"Lilinne, he is a trustworthy man. By the authority of the Emperor, I command you──let him in."
'Bleh! Hey, Demon Lord, if you really want in that bad, open it yourself!'
I gazed up at the towering door of the archive.
"It's protected by a sealing magic."
'That's right! This is the ultimate library crafted by Anti of Sage-The Majesty the Emperor! The entrance is protected by a powerful seal, and inside it's dungeon-like with monsters roaming around! You'll regret it if you get hurt, so just go home!'
I see.
A defensive measure to repel any unauthorized intruders.
'Let me tell you, the Sage Emperor was the strongest ruler in history and a sage! This archive, built with his magic, isn't something any ordinary runt could conquer!'
"I see. I appreciate your warning."
I approached the door and placed my hand on its surface.
Applying strength to my fingertips, I crushed it──CRACK!
Alongside the sound, the door shattered into pieces.
'No... no way, th-th-this can't beeeeeeeee!'
Ignoring Lilinne's shocked expression, I stepped into the Forbidden Archives.
'N-no way! The seal on the entrance was so strong it wouldn't weaken even after centuries! How on earth did you break it... with what power...!'
"I just broke it with my hands."
'There's no way that's possibleeeeeee!'
I repaired the broken door using the Hand of God.
The broken fragments reversed themselves and reassembled into their original form.
"Alright, let's move."
'Hmph...! Lucky for you that you managed to get in! But can you really conquer the massive dungeon inside!?'
Lilinne followed after me.
No way she'd guide me to the book I was after, though.
Inside the Forbidden Archives, countless towering bookshelves stretched towards the heavens.
In the dimly lit interior, the rows upon rows of bookshelves looked less majestic and more profoundly eerie.
And then it happened.
With a thud, a book tumbled out of one of the shelves.
When it opened, a massive hand slowly emerged from its pages.
"Ah, I see──it's from the book itself."
From the book arose a one-eyed giant.
'Hahaha! Behold! Cyclops! An S-rank monster!'
"Yeah, I know."
As I approached the Cyclops, it knelt down and bowed its head before me.
'Whaaaat!? An S-rank monster just surrendered on its own!?'
I patted the Cyclops on the head, gently stroking its face.
'What... what is going on...'
"Nothing, really. We're just getting along. What's so surprising?"
'Hmph...! Whatever. This one's not the only one!'
Thump thump thump!
Countless books tumbled off the shelves, and from them emerged a host of powerful-looking creatures.
Yet every single one of them knelt before me.
'What on earth is happening...!'
"To me, monsters are like family."
I figured this dungeon would be manageable.
