Volume 2 Chapter 18 Developing the Land
One day.
I had come to the edge of the Demon Lord's country.
'Zeke, what are you doing here?'
Riding on the earth dragon Chippy, I found a wasteland with cracked ground stretching endlessly.
"I thought about turning unused land into farmland."
Touching the ground, I found dry, nutrient-less land spreading out.
'Farmland? Why's that?'
"We've been getting quite a big group lately. I wanted to act before food issues arise."
'I see... but Zeke, nothing will grow on this barren land, right?'
"No problem."
I touched the ground and activated Hand of God.
It's the strongest healing spell that heals everything and restores what is damaged.
Hummmm...!
In an instant, the soil became moist, and grass began to grow....
'W-what is thisss!? It's a jungle in an instant!'
The wasteland transformed into the Great Forest, filled with lush green trees as far as the eye could see.
"I just intended to turn the land into a fertile field..."
'Amazing, look! There are so many fruit-bearing trees!'
Chippy leaned in close, and there were bananas hanging heavily.
'Delicious! This might be the first time I've ever eaten something this tasty!'
Chippy munched on the bananas with the peel on.
'Is it because Zeke made it? It's super tasty! It will definitely sell for a high price!'
"Well, that's for later."
I rode Chippy and explored the jungle.
'There are all sorts of fruits, wow, even vegetables.
They are growing even though I didn't plant any seeds...'
For some reason, farmland was also fully equipped within the forest.
'When did you cultivate this?'
"W-well... I thought it would be nice if there were fields, and then it just happened."
'I see... the forest responded to Zeke's wish as its creator. As expected of Zeke!'
To respond to a wish, it was as if the forest had a will of its own.
I stood before the dark farmland, thinking about the future.
"I've secured the fields. Now I should try planting seeds and such."
I returned to the Demon Lord country and brought back some plant seeds.
"What the heck is this...?"
'Ah! Zeke, this is amazing! Look at all these vegetables!'
The field was full of fresh vegetables and fruits.
"No... what's going on? I didn't plant any seeds?"
'The forest must have grown these vegetables for you, Zeke! You're amazing!'
"No... seriously, what does this mean? I thought having vegetables and fruits would solve hunger, but..."
It's hard to believe this phenomenon happened automatically.
And then, it happened.
"Huh? What is...?"
Someone was nibbling on the lush vegetables.
At first, I thought it was some monster.
But it felt different.
'What's wrong, Zeke?'
"No, there's something there."
As I approached with Chippy, I saw a palm-sized green girl.
'What are you looking at, Zeke?'
"No, it's this girl... eh, you can't see her?"
Chippy nodded eagerly.
The green girl was slightly transparent and glowing.
"Who are you?"
She flinched!
The girl noticed me and shrank back.
I raised my hands and said,
"I mean you no harm. Please, don't worry."
The girl cautiously approached me and clung to my leg.
"Hello. I'm Zeke, the Demon Lord of this land."
I crouched down and reached out for a handshake.
The small girl smiled and tightly grasped my finger.
'What have you been doing, Zeke?'
"No, there's this transparent girl here..."
The girl was holding a large plant leaf.
When she waved it, new fields and vegetables sprouted.
New fields and vegetables appeared.
'C-could it be, Zeke... can you see the land god?'
It's the god that stays in the land and generates spiritual energy.
The stronger the land god's power, the more prosperous the land.
"Is there really a land god in this barren wasteland?"
'...maybe, because Zeke created this forest, the land god was born too.'
"N-No way..."
I intended to just regenerate the land, but I ended up creating a land god as well.
'The land god is also the will of this land. It seems that child really likes Zeke.'
The green land god is nuzzling against me.
"W-well... anyway, we should be fine for food now."
