Volume 2 Chapter 12 Breaking the Curse of the Undead
We managed to repel the zombie horde.
But unless we defeat the demons, the root of this problem, it won't be a lasting solution.
However, Sakura's brother and the onis claim they don't know the demons' base.
To pinpoint their location, we'd need to split up our forces... I was just thinking this when──
"Big brother! It's an emergency! Some scary-looking dudes are gathering in front of the castle!"
I looked down from the castle, and what I saw was... a horde of grotesque, decaying monsters.
"Z-zombies? My Lord Demon Lord?!"
"No, something's off... they don't seem like onis."
The monsters below didn't have the characteristic horns of onis.
So, they weren't onis turned into zombies by the demons.
Leading the monstrous group was a beautiful woman with golden hair.
"Hear me! We, the Undead, have not come for battle! We're here because we heard the Demon Lord resides here!"
...They don't seem hostile.
"Would you hear our plea?"
'Big bro~ What should we do~?'
The Fire Dragon looked up at me with a worried expression.
"I'll go. I can't ignore someone in need, whoever they may be."
'You"re the best, big bro! Our dependable Demon Lord!'
I headed outside the castle alone and stood before the woman.
"My apologies for the sudden visit. I am Carmilla, the Undead King. I lead these Undead."
Carmilla was tall, with golden hair and eyes as red as blood.
Her sharp fangs, visible through her parted lips, were striking.
"A vampire, huh?"
"Indeed. I am one, but the others are ghouls and such, cursed to never die."
"Cursed with immortality..."
Indeed, I could sense a malevolent aura emanating from them.
"Is this curse from the demons?"
"Yes. They were cursed by the Evil Demon Lord Mephisto Feles before he was sealed away."
Evil Demon Lord...
Another new term.
Is this the big boss of the rampaging demons?
But she mentioned a seal...
No, more importantly──
"Are you demon's ally?"
"Absolutely not. We are the victims here. Because of them, we've been cursed with immortality..."
...and Carmilla and the others shed tears.
"If you have such immense power, perhaps you can even kill the undead..."
The undead look at me with sorrowful expressions.
"Don't say such sad things."
"But..."
"Leave it to me. I'll break this curse."
Carmilla's eyes widen in surprise.
"Well, Demon Lord...that's impossible. It's a powerful curse cast by the Evil Demon Lord. I've spent a long time searching for a way to lift it, but every attempt has failed."
"It's true that I don't fully understand the curse. But I would never take the lives of those who seek salvation from me, a doctor."
I wipe away Carmilla's tears with my finger.
"Please, trust me."
"......I understand. I trust in the Demon Lord. Everyone, offer your bodies to her."
The undead nod and line up in front of me.
I activate Hand of God.
It cures all abnormal conditions and even lifts the curse of zombification.
I have the power to break this curse.
A radiant light emanates from my hands.
The undead are enveloped in a gentle glow.
From their shadows, a dark mist-like substance rises.
'How dare you! You, the demon who made us immortal...'
"Silence."
I intensify the holy light.
The mist, which seems to be the essence of the demon, is instantly obliterated.
"Y-You defeated a demon in one blow! Who are you...?!"
"I am Zeke, a Demon Lord and a doctor to the beasts."
The light subsides.
Carmilla and the others look at their hands.
She bites her knuckle, and blood wells up.
"It hurts...the wound won't heal...you did it...you really did it!"
"Woah!"
The undead cheer.
"Thank you! Thank you, Demon Lord!"
Carmilla embraces me, tears streaming down her face.
"I can never repay your kindness! I'll remember this favor for the rest of my life!"
The undead all smile.
I am satisfied.
"Carmilla. So you've been cursed by the Demon Lord, which means you know the location of the demon's base, right?"
"Yes, of course. Well, I never thought..."
"Ah, I'll defeat the Demon Lord and save everyone."
