Volume 1 Chapter 59 The King is Abandoned by the Prime Minister

A week has passed since Zeke declared the founding of a new nation.

The king walks unsteadily along the streets of the kingdom.

 His appearance was terrible.

Wrapped in rags, his hair completely gone, and he was extremely thin.

He looked so changed that he could easily be mistaken for an 80-year-old man.

The king stopped by one of the towns in the kingdom.

It should have been a fairly large town, but... it had turned into a ghost town.

 "Hey... is anyone there...?"

His voice was hoarse, but no one answered his call.

Feeling lost, he walked through the empty town.

"Where have my people gone... is anyone there...?"

The king wandered, searching for his citizens.

"I must... rebuild my country... where are the pieces that will work for me...?"

If he was to ruin the kingdom passed down from his father in his generation, he wouldn't be able to face his ancestors in the afterlife.

"Surely... they have gone to Zeke... to abandon the country like this is truly ungrateful, those foolish citizens...!"

Even when pushed to this point, the king couldn't let go of his position of power.

 And then, at that moment.

 "You look shabby, Your Majesty."

 "O-oh...! Prime Minister...!"

The king approached the Prime Minister, tears streaming down his face.

He smiled warmly and embraced the king.

"Where have you been...! Not showing up at such an important time!"

"I apologize, I was busy with important work."

"Even though I was in trouble! There can't be anything more important than assisting me! Fool!"

A bit of energy returned to the king's dying body.

After all, this man was a subordinate he could trust.

"Well then, Prime Minister. Report the current situation."

"Currently, most of the citizens have fled abroad. Some have gone to Zeke's country, others to different nations... and some have been absorbed by other factions."

The Prime Minister took out a notebook and sighed.

"Most of the powerful nobles have left because of this incident. In other words, this country is finished."

"W-What do you mean by that...!"

The king felt anger at the Prime Minister's detached tone.

"Do you even understand your position!? You are supposed to assist me and carry on the long history of this kingdom! It's an important and honorable job!"

 The Prime Minister sighed again.

"Now, serve me! Work hard for my kingdom! Do you think I hired you for nothing!?"

Just as the king tried to pull the Prime Minister's hair, it happened.

 Smack...!

The Prime Minister brushed the king's hand away.

 "Shut up, you foolish kingggg!"

...Caught off guard, the king was bewildered.

"Who would serve a fool like you!"

 "W-Wait, Prime Minister...?"

"I am resigning as Prime Minister today, Your Majesty."

 "Wha!? N-No way!? Why!?"

The Prime Minister shook his head.

"It's because you don't understand things like this that such a disaster has happened. You foolish king."

Insulted by the Prime Minister, the king finally understood.

This man, who he thought he could trust, had long since distanced himself from him.

"I worked hard for you, yet you never once expressed gratitude. Instead, you insulted me, belittled me, and used violence. Don't you think it's natural to be hated?"

"N-No... We had a good relationship as a boss and subordinate..."

 Hmph!

 The Prime Minister snorted derisively.

"Now let me ask you, what is my name?"

 "Huh...?"

 "My name, my name."

...Even when asked, the king couldn't recall the name right away.

"In the end, that's the level of trust we have. Goodbye."

Turning away, the Prime Minister began to leave the king's side.

"W-Wait... If you leave too, how am I supposed to rebuild the kingdom...?"

The king tries to pull his arm back to stop him, but he shakes off the hand.

"I don't know. Why don't you go bow to Zeke?"

"It's too late for that... It's hopeless..."

"I told you so. You should have bowed to Zeke early on and admitted your mistakes."

The Prime Minister looks at him with a scornful gaze.

"This is the result of ignoring your subordinates and insisting on your own way. Accept it! You are the most incompetent and worthless person."

The king collapses, looking as if his soul has left his body.

The Prime Minister looks at the king as if he were just roadside trash, then leaves the scene.
