Volume 1 Chapter 53 The Hero is Weakened and Defeated Even by Goblins
Zeke had lifted the Demon Lord's curse, and meanwhile.
Makhen and his hero party were on their journey to defeat the Demon Lord, stopping by a village.
"Damn it! This is so frustrating! That damn guy! He keeps making a fool of me!"
The hero and his friends were staying at the village head's house.
Makhen was fuming on the straw bed.
"Calm down, leader."
The oldest paladin spoke in a soothing tone.
"Seriously! Why won't you let me go get revenge on Zeke!"
"Even so, you have a mission to defeat the Demon Lord. You can't just skip that."
The hero didn't know about the curse of the ancestors or the internal affairs of the Demon Lord's side.
That's why they were still trying to defeat the Demon Lord.
Then, it happened.
"H-Hero! It's terrible! Monsters are attacking the village!"
The village head rushed into the heroes' room in a panic.
"Monsters? What kind?"
"It's a horde of goblins!"
"Huh? Goblins?"
Makhen sighed with a look of disappointment.
"Deal with that yourselves."
"B-But! We have no way to fight monsters!"
"Shut up. I don't have time to deal with small fry like that."
The paladin sighed and smacked Makhen on the head.
"Ow! What was that for?"
"Come on, let's go. We're staying here, so it's only right to help. It's called gratitude."
Grabbed by the scruff of his neck by the paladin, the two headed outside.
Since it was late at night, they decided not to bother the girls and went to the village as just the two of them.
"Gyaa! Gyaa! Gyaa!"
The horde of goblins had entered the village.
Their eyes were red, and they were wielding clubs, ready to attack the villagers.
"Please, hero!"
"Sigh... This is so lame. Defeating goblins won't earn me any fame."
"Let's go. There are a lot of them. We'll split up and handle it."
The paladins headed to the north side of the village to deal with the goblins.
The hero clicked his tongue and headed to the south side.
"Ugh... these villagers are such weaklings. They're struggling with a small fry monster like this."
The villagers, armed with farming tools, were trying to drive the goblins away.
"Hero!" "The hero has come to help us!"
"Yeah, yeah, stop wasting your effort. You weaklings are just in the way, so step aside."
The hero waved his hand dismissively, as if shooing away stray dogs.
"What's with that attitude!? We're doing our best even if we're weak!"
Despite the complaints, the hero didn't change his attitude.
"Shut it, weaklings. If you can't even handle a low-level monster like a goblin, you're not worth keeping around."
"Y-you...! Just you wait!"
"If you're so mad, try taking down a goblin in one hit. Like this!"
The hero drew his sword and charged at the goblin.
...If he had noticed the abnormality at this point, he wouldn't have lost.
"Gyaa? Gyaaa!"
The goblin noticed the hero and swung its club down.
"Idiot! Like that's gonna hit me... Ggh!"
The club landed a clean hit on the hero's head.
"...Huh?"
Both the goblins and the villagers froze in shock.
The hero had taken the goblin's attack head-on and collapsed to the ground.
"Huh? Wh-what's going on...?"
Staggering, the hero stood up.
"Lucky you, weakling! You managed to land a hit on the hero by sheer luck! Take that to your grave!"
But the hero gripped his sword and slashed at the goblins.
Clang...!
"What!? No way!"
The hero's sword was completely blocked by the goblin's club.
"Wh-what!? Why!? How is this... Ggh!"
The hero was struck by attacks from the other goblins and fell again.
"H-hey, what's happening...? The hero's getting beaten by goblins...?"
Thud, whack!
The hero was being pummeled by the goblins.
"S-stop it! I-I'm the hero...! Ugh!"
At this point, both the hero and the villagers came to the same conclusion.
[These goblins were strong enough to defeat the hero.]
"Makhen! What are you doing?!"
A paladin, having finished dealing with the northern side, approaches the hero.
With a light swing of his sword, the goblins are sent flying like leaves.
"Why are you hurt like this?"
The paladin heals Makhen.
"I-I dunno... The goblins got stronger or somethin'..."
Both the paladin and the villagers tilt their heads in confusion.
"But... you easily drove the goblins back, paladin...?"
"Could it be... that the hero was just weak...?"
"Wha──?!"
The hero's face turns red as he raises his voice.
"Th-that's not it! Move!"
Makhen stands up, grabs his sword, and charges at the goblins.
"Gya?!" "Gee...?"
...At this point, the goblins here had been freed from the Demon Lord's curse.
The curse didn't lift all at once but gradually spread and faded away.
In other words, these goblins no longer had any intention of attacking humans.
"Dieeeeeeeee!"
That said, if attacked, they'd naturally fight back.
The goblin swung its club at the hero──no, at what seemed like a weak ordinary person.
Crack!
The club cleanly hit the hero's face with a satisfying sound.
"Uwaaaaaaaah!"
The hero flew up like a ball and crashed to the ground.
The goblins hurriedly fled the scene.
After a moment of silence, a villager muttered.
"...Wow, that's rough."
The villagers' faces showed clear disappointment and mocking smiles.
"He got taken out by goblins." "All that bravado for this? Pfft, that's rough."
The villagers snickered and mocked him.
Meanwhile, the hero, unable to move from the heavy blow, turned red and shouted.
"I-I was just off my game! Damn it! Don't laugh! Stop laughing! If you've got time for that, help me already!"
But the villagers didn't come closer.
"Tch, what a hero." "Can someone like this really defeat the Demon Lord?" "No way. Not a chance."
One by one, the villagers walked away.
The paladin approached the hero and cast a healing spell.
"What the hell are you messing around for?"
"I'm not kidding! Dammit! Why? What's going on?!"
...Makhen doesn't know.
Right now, he has been stripped of his title and power as a hero, and is weakened to the level of an ordinary person.
