Volume 1 Chapter 43 C, Part Class Clan 'Valkyrie' (I)
*Ayumi's Perspective
"Aaaaaaahhh!!!!"
"Yuki!!"
"Yuki-chan!!"
Nagisa screamed as she saw Yuki, blown away and lying motionless on the ground.
Kotono and I also shouted her name.
No way, this can't be happening!
To think that a "talking monster" actually exists in reality!
But... but why... why is a "talking monster," something said to exist only in the Deep Floors... and not just any Deep Floors, but beyond the 70th Floor, practically an occult, here in the Lower Floors?!
* * *
My name is Nanase Ayumi.
I'm the leader of the C-Class Seeker clan "Valkyrie."
Up until now, we've been leveling up in the Lower Floors, specifically between the 40th and 48th Floors, preparing to challenge the Floor Boss. Today is the culmination of all that──the day we finally take on the Lower Floors' Floor Boss.
"Phew... it's finally here."
"Yeah."
"The Lower Floors' Floor Boss, 'Mage Golem'... a cheat monster that's a golem but specializes in magic."
"Hmph... we're fully prepared for magic!"
Our clan consists of 4 members.
Yuki, our vanguard and tank, and me, also a vanguard.
Then there's Kotono, our healer, and Nagisa, who protects the healer while also joining in attacks──a balanced type specializing in magic.
Originally, the 4 of us debuted as Seekers at the same time... what you'd call "batchmates." We became friends during the F-Class Seeker registration card ceremony and have been together ever since.
All of us in "Valkyrie" are C-Class Seekers, which is quite rare for a typical clan.
This is because Seekers, who belong to the clan, have a mixed sense of ups and downs, so their abilities are different.
Therefore, clans with as many talented members as ours are rare, and this is both a 'strength' and a 'weakness'.
In a good way, you could call it a "stable clan."
In a bad way, you could call it a "plain clan."
In other words, it's a clan that's reliable in terms of strength but lacks a standout powerhouse, so it doesn't really shine.
However, in the world of Seekers, a "stable clan" is generally seen as competent, and there are hardly any who mock it as a "plain clan."
Well, the ones who do mock it are mostly the nasty B-class Seekers and clans or higher.
Personally, though, I wished this clan had a standout powerhouse... and not just any powerhouse, but an overwhelmingly strong one.
Still, since we all get along so well, I thought, "This is fun in its own way, so whatever," and while I felt a bit conflicted, I was enjoying my Seeker life to the fullest.
Our close-knit clan became popular when Yuki randomly suggested, "Let's try this!" and we started streaming our dungeon explorations as "D-Streamers."
Of course, our skills as Seekers were recognized, but honestly, most of the praise was for things like "an all-female clan" or our "glamorous appearance."
The other 3... well, two of them were thrilled, saying, "It feels like we've become idols!" But honestly, I wasn't having fun.
Still, I couldn't say that to the others, so I forced a smile for the camera, trying my best to meet the viewers' expectations.
That was our clan, but we had already leveled up properly and were active as D-Streamers with pride and self-confidence that we were "not just idol seekers".
* * *
......Then one day
"Hey, everyone. Shouldn't we aim to take on the Lower Floors' Floor Boss soon?"
I suggested to my teammates that we challenge the Floor Boss of the Lower Floors.
But then,
"Ehh... isn't that a bit too much?"
"Huh?"
"Yeah, yeah, with our current strength, we're only good up to the 45th floor."
As expected, the other 2 weren't too enthusiastic.
"Of course, not right away! I'll get to the 48th floor first, then..."
"Eh, I guess the 45th floor will be fine for now?"
"! Yu, Yuki?"
"I agree. Right now, the most important thing is to create a plan to increase the number of viewers!"
"Nagisa..."
"Yeah, even though it's being streamed recently, people say it's a rut. Ayumi also thinks about something! "
"I..."
Far from being enthusiastic, Yuki and Nagisa's answer was a clear NO.
I mean, what about a project to increase viewers...?
We are D-Streamers, but we are actually Seekers, who make a living by exploring dungeons.
I was shocked that I was no longer motivated as a Seeker,
Tap, tap.
"Huh?"
It was Kotono, the healer, who squealed my back.
"Yeah, I'm not good at streaming, so I'm not good at streaming. Also, personally, I would prefer to prioritize dungeon exploration"
"Kotono! Ah, thank you...!"
Kotono was the smallest and cutest of the 4.
I mean, she's 2 older than me, but she looks like a middle school student.
Also, I don't know if that's the reason, but it's the most popular channel on my channel.
Kotono was the only one who answered YES to my proposal.
Then,
"Hey, Kotono... That's a problem!! "
"That's right, Kotono-chan. If a monster were to damage your pretty face, what would happen to your D-Streamer activities? You're supposedly the most popular person on our channel! Be a bit more aware of that!"
Yuki and Nagisa said that.
