Chapter 263 Our Job Is To Clean Up
We gathered people who could use earth-element magic to help tear down the building, and along with Maya-chan, we cleaned everything up nicely.
The bad smell was a problem, but I thought it was still cuter than the Oso (Dreadful element) poison.
It definitely disappears with magic.
Maya-chan cleaned up the area, and I used 'Detoxify' to give it a final touch and detox everything.
We dug down with earth-element magic, and I had Maya-chan appraise the spot.
If there was still a reaction, we would purify it and finally detox it.
"Wow.... At this point, I can't tell if Maya is Holy Lady or Purity-sama!"
"Maya-chan's magic is effective, so it's tough to deny it, you know?"
"Mmm..."
Man, today's work took the longest.
We kept cleaning and digging, then cleaning again.
After digging down about 20 meters (65 ft), we had Maya-chan appraise it, and I was relieved.
But just thinking about it seeping into the lake sent a chill down my spine!
First, we appraised the condition of the soil at the edge of the lake.
Riding on Centrena and Wilshion's backs, we walked slowly.
Maya-chan kept appraising while maintaining a certain distance.

The lake at the mountain peak is quite large.
It's a little smaller than the one between Ensgard and Wareels, I think?

The time for 'Display Self-Status Mystery System' is around 16 o'clock.
It's been about an hour since we started checking around the lake.
We took a round trip from the base built with earth attribute magic by Jag-san and didn't really feel any signs of pollution.
"More than anything, right? Brother."

"Is it almost time before the sun sets?"

Maya-chan and I gazed into the distance, watching the direction of the sunset.
"If we don't get to it, it won't get done."
"Once we finish, a delicious meal is waiting for us."
"Shall we get it done then?"
We found a spot where the lake water was stagnant and started the work of purifying and detoxifying it.
We moved steadily, but since I wasn't doing it alone, it didn't feel tough at all.
Time passed surprisingly quickly as I chatted with Maya-chan.
"The sun is setting slowly, huh?"
"Yeah. It's pitch dark around us."
This task of cleaning up the lake's stagnation was something we started with a pace in mind.
"Sure, if we used a water purifier Magic Tool, we might not need to do this at all."
"Yeah, it's a matter of feeling. I mean, I saw that."
"Right. Once Maya saw that, she wanted to clean it up too."
Since we saw the aftermath of a toilet, we couldn't just leave it be.
So, it felt good to know it could be safely drunk.
I think that's important.

"But for now, let's do a round."
"Yeah. Once we're done, let's head back."

"Wilshion-tan is hungry too."
"I figured. I'm feeling it too."
"Anyway, the rest of the work is for tomorrow."
"Right, so let's get it done."
"Yeah. Let's finish it up."
We wrapped up our last task for the day and decided to ride down from the mountaintop on Centrena and Wilshion.
"Man, it's cold!"
"Still super cold!"
That's for sure.
The snow that fell isn't melting easily.
We returned to the inn, Essence.
After warming up with a bath, we all finished dinner together.
"Wow, that was delicious!"
Mother was quite pleased tonight as well.
We had our dinner in Mother's room, with the food from Essence served like a bento.
"Maya-chan and I both really love this flavor. It reminds us of the tastes from where we grew up, you know?"
"Maya loves it too. I'm glad Mother liked it."
"Ah, I'm really happy that our tastes match. Someday, we'll be able to catch Great Trout in Ensgard. Then we can eat delicious fish dishes."
"I really love that. Oh, Maya-chan, look!"
"Yeah. Is it long grain? Let's take some home."
"Right. It might be tasty if we cook it together with the Great Trout."
And so, our excitement continues to grow.
"Oh, by the way, Ensgard and Arlheave are officially establishing diplomatic relations."
"Is that so?"
"Yeah. That's great, isn't it, big brother?"
"Definitely."
"Um, Tatsuma-sama, may I have a word?"
Dorchuneta-san raised her hand to speak.
"What's up, Neta-san?"
She's my direct subordinate, so I guess she's gotten used to doing this.
Besides, it's in front of Mother.
"I received a message saying that the inquiry from Bergalide is completed, and they want you to swing by the security department headquarters tomorrow morning."
"Got it. Then tomorrow, let's go with Mother and Maya-chan."
Mother nods.

The next morning, after finishing breakfast, we headed to the security department headquarters.
We came to hear the report that the inquiry from the now quiet Bergalide was completed.

So that was the report from Jillietta.
It seems she directly heard from Grotesqueum-sensei (the masculine who torture), who has this odd side of him.
I wasn't given the details, but apparently, he comes from a family with a noble title in this country and runs a pretty sizable merchant guild on the outside.
So, this information seems to be solid.
Well, to put it simply, Bergalide, who grew up in that place, didn't know the location of Celestial Race's homeland.
The story goes that only the escaped lord and a few others probably knew where it was.
If they didn't even tell their own family, they likely didn't leave any evidence behind, Mother agreed.
It seems that Bergalide has pledged loyalty to Grotesqueum-sensei and will work at the merchant guild for the rest of his life, probably being doted on by Grotesqueum-sensei.
I might not have needed to hear that last part.
Maya-chan and I could only manage a wry smile about it.
Of course, Mother did too.
