Volume 19 Chapter 10 Restart

 "Be careful"

"You be careful too. Please take care of Lady Serena"

"I'm sorry we can't go together. Please protect her well"

The morning after the attack, Gustave, Al's brother, was greeting the junior leader and other members of the Margrave Rain Knight Group's second team in the nearest village to where the mage from Marquis Prentis attacked.

Many members of the second team were hurt, and most of the supply team had to stay here, so only Gustave and Al could go with the group on the mission.

Gustave graduated from middle school 7 years ago and was allowed to join the Margrave Rain Knight Group right away, but he has always been part of this second team.

At first, he gained experience as a squire, and about 3 years ago, he became a knight ── this knight is not one who has noble title rights but is a knight in name only.

Gustave was recognized as a knight who works while getting paid, also called a squire knight ── many of his friends lived in the same dorm and cared for each other.

 "Brother, let's go"

Al started walking while urging his brother.

Gustave's horse was being led by Orville (Al's childhood friend and son of the squire who is taking care of Gustave).

But Gustave kept saying farewell to the other members of the second team who were staying behind with sadness.

'He's really glaring at Al, isn't he? That guy called Melvin...'

 Glee whispers to Al.

Baron Melvin, the junior leader of the magic corps, was ordered to guard the remaining members and was apparently removed from the delegation.

Of course, not only the envoys, but also the people remaining in the village are citizens of the Sylvester Kingdom, and there is a possibility that the Marquis Prentis family's magicians may attack, so from Al's point of view, this seems like a necessary measure, but he has been acting like this ever since he was ordered to be their guard.

From Al's point of view, it seems strange that he would be resented for using the Falling Control spell to save his life, but he can't question the noble.

They had no choice but to leave him alone because they would part ways after their departure.

Now, the line of the group leaving had changed a bit before the attack.

Nora, from the Marquis Tagard family, was in a carriage, followed closely by a small group from the Second Knights of Sylvester Kingdom, and then came the carriages with Prince Theodore and Serena.

Since there were no supply wagons, the line was much shorter now.

They did not know what happened to the supplies that the supply team was carrying, but they were sure they weren't lost.

There were rumors that the prince had pulled out a magic bag and filled it with supplies, probably the magic bag owned by the mage from the Marquis Prentis family.

As someone who knew how that magic bag worked, Al felt uneasy about it, but he had to stay quiet since he couldn't explain it.

"Since we don't have the wagons, it feels like we can go faster now. Are you okay walking?"

"I'm fine. We used to play at hunting, remember?"

Orville, who walked next to him, asked with worry, but Al smiled, saying there was no problem.

The rough land where they were was indeed hilly, but it was not much different from the mountain paths around Channing Village.

"Alfred, what did you say to His Highness Theodore?"

After a while, Gustave, who was sad to say goodbye, caught up with Al and asked him.

"Well, after I gave my report, I was asked what I wanted as a reward, so I told him I wanted you to be promoted to knight."

 "What?"

 Gustave looked shocked and froze.

"Also, it seemed like no one had noticed the magic bag that the other magician had, so I said I'd like to have it if possible, and explained that to him."

 "Hey, hey..."

Gustave and Orville look at each other.

"His Highness Theodore did that to me..."

"I think it will be fine. They seemed friendly, and His Highness is already using the magic bag, right?"

Al answered calmly, and Gustave and Orville shook their heads in disbelief.

"I've heard rumors about the magic bag. I thought it would be used from the start if you had it, but I see now... But what do I plan to do about the title? I was planning to go back to Channing Village after a few years and take over..."

"Big Brother Gustave is doing well as a knight now, so why not just keep leading the house? What I asked was just a starting point. Brother Jasper can take over Channing Village, and I think it would be good if we help each other."

Hearing Al's words, Gustave paused and thought a bit.

Orville was next to him, nodding many times with shining eyes, saying, "I see."

It seemed that he agreed with the idea.

 Channing Village is poor.

Al thought that if Brother Gustave could get land or pay as a knight, it would help Channing Village, and their lives would be better.

"Well, I understand what you want to say. We can only hope that Alfred's decision is right."

Gustave said in a slightly resigned tone.

"Ah, and also, during the camp, it's still the plan to go to Naresh──I mean, His Excellency Baron Sennett's tent. But, I guess what we'll be doing has changed... maybe."

 "Huh? What's changed?"

Until the attack, Lord Zora and his apprentices were on guard, using detection spells, while learning and practicing magic together, keeping in mind the options. Then, the magicians of the Second Knights of the Kingdom, or rather the magic corps, who were very grateful for Al's help, and even Viscount Vincent joined them.

Also, they would do desk exercises to prepare against the magician from the Marquis Prentis family.

 "Desk exercises?"

"Yes, it's about discussing what to pay attention to when fighting other magicians and which spells are effective while imagining different situations. Lord Zora has a lot of experience in these matters, so I think there is much to learn from him."

 "I see. That makes sense."

 Gustave nodded his head strongly.

For Al, he had also thought many things alone, so it was very interesting to discuss with others.

"You were in the same class as Baron Sennett in middle school, right? You have a good friend."

 Al nodded his head big.

During their student days, they were both busy and didn't talk much, but this connection was certainly rare.

Thanks to Naresh, there are many spells he has learned, and he has also been helped a lot with Patricia's situation.

"However, when Alfred came, Lady Serena said she would prepare for war with Marquis Prentis by forming an alliance with Tagard, but this attack has made that very certain. They may have wanted to stop the alliance by getting rid of the pro-alliance Prince Theodore, but in the end, it seems like they declared war on Prentis. This diplomatic mission will likely talk about not only the alliance but also specific plans of action. I want to bring the hammer down on the magician who had been supplying food to those Barbarians soon."

And with that, Gustave clenches his fist.

 His brother is right.

War... The Sylvester Kingdom will embark on it.

He doesn't think this is a good idea, but with this incident, the Sylvester Kingdom will no doubt be cooperating with the Marquis Tagard family and discussing how to fight the Marquis Prentis family.

 "Alfred, please continue."

"Eh? No, after this quest is over, I'm..."

He doesn't know if his answer reached him.

But Gustave acted like the conversation was over, took the reins from Orville, and jumped on his beloved horse.

What could he be asking for?

 Al hurriedly followed his brother.
