Chapter 95 Encounter In The Prison

I wonder how long I had been swaying in the carriage.

I had been talking non-stop with the driver, and then suddenly, the carriage came to a stop.

"We've arrived; this is the destination."

 "Understood."

I obediently followed the instructions and got off the carriage.

Since my legs weren't fully healed yet, being carried by the man was a bit humiliating.

If I had to be carried, I'd prefer it to be Lisa, even though she's not here right now.

According to the information I managed to pry out of the man before arriving, this area is still part of Euphemia.

I had been wondering how they managed to smuggle an entire Blue Wolf clan across the border so boldly... but I was told that they kept their base inside Euphemia and exported people one by one in a way that wouldn't draw attention.

The main destination for export is the Bezelus Empire, where the men are bought as combatants for slave troops, and now it seems there are mostly women, children, and the elderly left.

...Right now, I truly felt grateful that Thea isn't here.

The man's account of the prices and numbers of the sold Blue Wolf clan members sounded almost like he was boasting about trophies or something, and even I felt nauseous listening to it.

"I wonder where I'm going to be bought... If I had the money, I would have liked to buy me myself."

"Haha, that would have been nice."

I used to think it was nice to be liked by people, but honestly, being liked by someone like him only fills me with disgust.

Thanks to that, I was able to learn in detail about my current situation and that of the Blue Wolf clan, so it wasn't entirely a bad thing.

Thinking about such things, I was taken to a small rundown hut in the forest──and to a large detention facility in its basement.

The image is something like a war evacuation shelter, or something like that?

I'm a bit worried about the damp air that's typical of an underground place, but it seems like it's been properly maintained so that people can live there comfortably.

I guess that means, for better or worse, they are slave "traders".

"Welcome, we've been waiting for you"

As I was walking through the underground, Coras, the leader of the Golden Fox clan that had kidnapped me, appeared before me.

Just a moment ago, the coachman who had been talking to me in a rather frivolous way straightened his back the moment he saw him.

"Thank you for your hard work! As instructed, I've brought Yumie Granbell!"

"Good work. Just to confirm, you weren't followed, were you?"

"No problem, I was thorough on that front. I was constantly using my ability."

 "I see, then that's good."

Coras, who was talking to the coachman, turned his gaze towards me.

I felt a chill run down my spine as his gaze scrutinized my body.

"Sir Coras, I think you should stop obsessively observing the arriving slave like that. She's getting scared."

"Hmm? How rude. But... I never expected you to defend that girl, you've become quite close, haven't you? You haven't said anything unnecessary, have you?"

"Don't say such malicious things. I was only talking about where we are and what's going to happen next."

"That in itself is unnecessary... Well, it's fine. Please put her into the special cell. It's impossible for her to escape in that state, but just in case."

 "Understood."

 Special cell?

With a tilted head, I was led by the coachman to a certain room.

It was a place that was too clean to be called a jail.

However, there were no windows, just one door, and judging by the metallic magic tool that caught my eye upon entering, it seemed that a barrier preventing the use of magic was constantly active in the room.

The handcuffs are even equipped with a transmitter, and apparently contain a magic electric shock that remotely paralyzes the body the moment they are removed. They're pretty thorough.

"Food will be brought to you 3 times a day. You can use the showers and toilets provided inside. If you have any other requests, we'll do our best to accommodate them."

"...Then can I talk to the Blue Wolf people being held here? Even if it's just for a little while."

 "Huh? Hmm, I guess so..."

Is it no good after all, to a reluctant man?

I was nervously waiting for the next words, but he just shrugged his shoulders and said, "Oh well."

"I'll secretly make a string telephone later and bring it to you. I can't give you a magic tool, and I can't let you out of here... but this much should be okay."

 "Thank you very much!"

I didn't think it would actually work, but this is great.

A string telephone is way too old-fashioned, and I won't know if it works properly until I try, so even though I was told not to cry if it doesn't work... it's better than having nothing.

So, about 2 hours after I was put in the special prison...

A simple string telephone was delivered through a small vent that only a mouse could fit through.

While thanking the man who said this kind of thing is technically not allowed, I quickly decided to try using it.

 "Hello, can you hear me?"

I wondered how far the cell of the Blue Wolf clan member was and what volume of voice would reach.

I didn't know anything, but I decided to call out, and── a reply came back.

'...I can hear you. Who are you?'

Hearing a gentle woman's voice made me let out a sigh of relief.

Then, to make sure the other person understood who I was, I introduced myself as politely as possible, given their cautious demeanor.

"My name is Yumie Granbell. I'm a noble from the Ortria Kingdom... and a friend of Thea."

I wondered if she would believe me.

I waited nervously for the words that would follow.

Then, I received a response that exceeded my expectations from the other side.

'Thea? Did you say Thea?! Thea?! Thea?! Is Thea okay?!'

"Yes. She wasn't in perfect health, but now she's recovered and is smiling happily. Don't worry."

 '...that's good...!!'

A sobbing voice can be heard over the string telephone.

Thea is still loved by everyone in the Blue Wolf clan.

 She is loved.

Realizing that made my heart warm, even in this situation.

'...Sorry, I'm confused. I haven't told you my name yet.'

But... that wasn't the only thing that made me happy.

'Let me introduce myself again. My name is Lena... I'm Thea's mother.'

Thea's precious family is here, and they are in a condition to talk properly.

Regarding that fact, I silently raised a voice of joy in my heart, saying, "I did it."
