Chapter 1 I Have Reincarnated As A Girl

Chapter 1 I Have Reincarnated As A Girl

Looking at my reflection in the mirror, I was so shocked that my eyes went wide.

With silky, silver hair and translucent white skin, my sapphire-blue eyes sparkled like jewels.

I must be around ten years old, right? Because of that, my body still has that flat-chested kid vibe, but I'm pretty sure I'll grow up to be an absolute beauty, with a delicate appearance like an angel.

 Count Granbell's daughter, Yumie Granbell.

That's my new name... In other words, it seems I've somehow been reincarnated into another world.

"Whoa, no way... This kind of thing really happens, huh..."

Just a little while ago, I was supposed to be holed up at home, spending the day gaming like usual.

Well, saying I was holed up might be a bit misleading, right? There was some weird virus going around, and instead of class closures, the whole school was shut down.

I didn't really get it, but hey, a break? Woohoo! I was lounging around, feeling a bit guilty about it... and then I found myself in a completely unfamiliar room, in the body of a girl I didn't know, lying in bed.

Yeah, even thinking about it again, it makes no sense. Did I die? My memory's kinda fuzzy on that.

More than anything, I was definitely a guy in my past life. So why am I a girl now? Is this some kind of divine prank?

 "Hmm... well, whatever, I guess."

After thinking it over for a bit, I came to a conclusion.

To be honest, I don't feel much attachment to my past life.

Why? Because I can hardly remember it. I know I was a guy, a student, and I played games, but beyond that? I can't even recall my name or my family.

What matters now, though, is the room I'm in.

It's much bigger than the one I used to have, and the furnishings? Luxurious. My nightgown is like a thin, dress-like nightie, something I've never seen before.

It's clear: Yumie is a well-to-do young lady. Being from the Count family, that's to be expected. But unlike the typical "wannabe nobles" you often see in reincarnation stories, she's the real deal. And with her looks, it's pretty much certain she's got a bright future ahead of her.

 "Heh heh heh... I won."

Right now, what's more important than my past life is the rosy future stretching out before me.

Maybe it's because I've just reincarnated, but my memories of "Yumie" are a bit hazy, and I can't quite recall everything clearly. So, my first priority should be getting a better grasp of my situation.

Thankfully, the sun is up, so wandering around shouldn't be a problem.

With that in mind, I dash out of the room, eager to explore the house.

The mansion is huge—Western-style and so vast that I instantly regret running out so impulsively. But before I can get completely lost, I bump into someone.

The moment I laid eyes on her, I remembered who she was.

 "Mother! Good morning!!"

A beautiful woman with golden hair.

I cheerfully greeted her, thinking I should at least say hello to the dignified-looking lady...

 Smack.

 "Huh..."

I got slapped hard across the face.

The shock made me stumble back, and the woman, who should be my mother, looked down at me with a freezing glare.

 Um, so... why?

"You're so loud in the middle of the day, you little failure!! Can't you be quiet for once?!"

Those harsh words aimed at a mere ten-year-old pierced my heart.

Unable to say anything, I just stood there in shock when I heard hurried footsteps approaching from behind.

"Madam, I'm so sorry! The young lady is just recovering from an illness and was feeling a bit lonely...!"

"Then you better keep an eye on her! Make sure she never shows her face in front of me again!!"

Hmph, my mother walked away, and the maid who rushed over picked me up.

Seeing me still frozen in place, the maid──Lisa──gently stroked my head with a pained expression.

"...The madam was just having a bit of a bad day. Don't take it too much to heart; let's head back to your room."

 "...Yeah."

Nodding along, I was still trying to grasp the situation as Lisa led me back to the room.

No matter how much I thought about it, I couldn't understand why my mother had treated me the way she did. So, I decided to ask Lisa directly.

Maybe it was a bit strange to ask something like that now, but Lisa seemed flustered, though she explained everything clearly. Honestly, it was a relief.

As for the crucial reason... it turns out I'm the illegitimate child of a maid who was fired from this mansion and my father.

"One day, out of the blue, when the master brought home a new daughter, everyone in the mansion, including me, was shocked. The madam, especially, was shaken. Ever since then, she and the master have been fighting every time they see each other."

They used to be a very close couple, but Lisa sighed. Realizing she might've made the atmosphere heavier, she hurriedly added,

"It's okay, though. The madam doesn't truly hate you. She's just upset right now, but I'm sure they'll make up soon and accept you."

It didn't sound like certainty—more like a wish—but I appreciated her attempt to reassure me.

I thought life was supposed to be on easy mode, but it's been harder than I imagined from the start. At this rate, I might not even get the luxury of enjoying my "winning" life.

 "Umm..."

While Lisa was explaining, I stood in front of the mirror, nervously pinching the hem of the dress I'd changed into from my nightgown.

As I turned around, the skirt swayed lightly. The unfamiliar clothing felt strange, but the pale sky-blue dress seemed to suit Yumie's silver, angelic appearance perfectly.

I hate to admit it, but I do look pretty cute.

If someone told me a girl like this would become family—even just through marriage—I'd be over the moon, rolling around with joy.

 "Alright, I've decided."

 "Decided about what...?"

"To make my father and mother reconcile."

At my words, Lisa tilted her head as if to say, how are you going to do that? I answered her with my best smile.

"I'll (ore) charm them with my cuteness and bring them together!!"

 "What the...!?"

Animal therapy, as the term suggests, can heal the heart when humans cherish cute things, making them less likely to get angry over trivial matters.

More than anything, if my existence is causing my mom to be upset, then if she could just accept me enough to love me, everything should work out just fine.

So Lisa, please don't make that desperate face.

If we bring out all the cuteness of Yummy (Yumie-chan), it's definitely not an impossible mission!!.

"'Me(Ore)'?! My lady, where did you learn to speak like that!? You need to fix it right away!!"

...Oh, is that what caught your attention?
