Volume 3 Chapter 3 Apprentice Craftsman
Before heading to the blacksmith, I decided to check out the quality of the weapons at the shop first.
The weapons on display are basically mass-produced items made by the blacksmith.
Occasionally, you might find a Rank 1 item crafted by a skilled artisan, but those are rare.
Especially since this is a town where beginner adventurers gather, you won't find overly expensive masterpieces here.
When I actually arrived at the weapon shop and looked at the items for sale, it was indeed just a lineup of cheap, mass-produced goods.
"Um, what do you think, Mr. Roezé? Do you think there's anything good here?"
"Well, for beginner adventurers, I think there's enough to choose from. But I don't think there's anything that really suits you two."
Valkyrie Rose, who possesses talent that surpasses even heroes.
Stardust Magician Cosmos, who has extraordinary magic that exceeds even that of sages.
There probably isn't a weapon shop on this earth that sells weapons worthy of these two.
I thought maybe I'd find a hidden gem, but it seems like the quality is just as I expected.
"How about this one? It says it's made from good divine wood."
"Well, it's not bad in general, but since it's for Cosmos..."
With that childish spell chanting, Cosmos's magic easily exceeds "1200." A staff capable of channeling such immense magic on a daily basis is not something you can just find anywhere.
Still, I glanced over the many staffs leaning against the wall.
Then, I spotted a pink, childish "toy staff" decorated with a star-shaped tip, and I couldn't help but focus on it.
Immediately after, I quickly looked away.
"...You just thought this would suit me, didn't you?"
"...I didn't think that."
Feeling a cold gaze from Cosmos, I secretly broke out in a cold sweat.
It was easy to imagine Cosmos swinging this staff around with childish spell chanting.
I mean, why are there toys in a weapon shop? Are they trying to make a profit off children's toys now?.
"Isn't there a way to test it out? If I could use the maximum output of magic just once, I could get a sense of how good this staff is," she said.
"Oh, I want to try cutting with a sword too! Should we ask the shopkeeper?"
"Wait, no! If you two do that, it'll be useless in no time!"
If I stayed here any longer, it seemed like they would cause some unnecessary trouble.
Thinking that, I decided to quickly take them out of the weapon shop.
In the end, I didn't find any good deals.
But just as I was about to leave the shop with my shoulders slumped...
"Hmm?"
I spotted a barrel near the door filled with discounted items.
From what I could see, there were swords and spears with serious nicks and oddly shaped blades crammed inside.
It seemed like they were selling defective items or practice pieces made by beginner craftsmen at a low price.
"..."
I picked up one of those swords──my "worn-out sword," which could hardly be called good quality──and observed it closely.
Rose, who was watching me, eventually tilted her head.
"...Is there something wrong with that sword?"
"Oh, no. It's nothing really," I said, shaking my head. After that, I put the sword back in its place and left the weapon shop.
As I keep repeating, this is the town of Hyamars, where beginner adventurers gather.
Adventurers who just registered at the guild are working hard every day to become skilled higher-level adventurers.
Similarly, this place also serves as a training ground for beginner "craftsmen." They create weapons for the novice adventurers and grow together with them.
The industrial facilities where these craftsmen work are located in the West District, where the guild is set up.
So, we came to the industrial area of the West District, a place we rarely visit, and looked around curiously.
"Wow, there are so many blacksmiths here! Where should we ask for help?"
"Hmm, maybe we should check them out one by one."
Just from a quick glance, there seemed to be about ten workshops.
Since we're going to place a custom order, we'd want to ask the best craftsman, right? Honestly, I don't think we can tell the skill level of the blacksmiths just by looking.
"How about over there? It looks like there are a lot of big workshops."
"Yeah, let's take a peek."
Led by Cosmos, we started peeking into the workshops one after another.
We saw craftsmen hammering steel and a place displaying swords made by a swordsmith.
There were quite a few things that were helpful for us, and we often stopped to observe closely.
Eventually, I made eye contact with a young craftsman, who smiled brightly at us.
"Are you looking to place a weapon order?"
"Ah, yes. But I'm still unsure where to ask..."
"This area has a lot of workshops. There are several run by skilled blacksmiths, so I think it would be good to refer to the displayed items before placing your order. We have some great blacksmiths here too."
The young blacksmith wiped the sweat from his forehead with a cloth and naturally promoted his workshop.
Then he asked about our needs.
"By the way, what kind of weapon are you looking for?"
"Um, well... these guys are a bit 'off,' so I'd like something suitable for them."
"'Off!?'."
At that unfortunate choice of words, both of them widened their eyes in surprise.
I didn't know how to explain it in one word, so I ended up expressing it awkwardly.
Seeing our exchange, the young blacksmith chuckled awkwardly.
"If you're still not used to handling weapons, I can have a craftsman who specializes in making easy-to-use weapons for beginner adventurers create one for you..."
"I-I'm sorry. That's not what I meant..."
I was a bit lacking in words, so I quickly tried to provide a clearer explanation.
These 2 are so strong that any weapon breaks right away, so I want high-quality gear that matches them.
But...
"Enough already, you worthless Fran! If you can't even handle the chores properly, you don't belong in the workshop! Get out of here already!"
"...?"
A loud shout echoed from somewhere in the workshop, cutting off my words.
