Volume 3 Chapter 12 Workshop
"Did I ask a bit of a mean question?"
"Huh?"
"I wasn't really sure what Roezé truly wants to do. Right now, I want to carry on my sister's will and become a great king. But what does Roezé really want to do?"
"..."
What I want to do.
When asked again like that, I find myself at a loss for words.
"Well, it's not that I don't have a clear answer. On the contrary, I think I know exactly what I want to do. But when it comes to actually saying it out loud, I feel a bit embarrassed, so I couldn't respond right away. However, I can understand Ms. Nemophila's question. It does seem unclear what I really want, especially since I say that helping others isn't my hobby, yet I end up helping a lot of people.
I answered Ms. Nemophila, albeit a bit hesitantly.
"...What I really want to do right now is to watch people grow."
"Watch people grow?"
"At first, I thought it would be nice to make easy money, so I started being a Nurturer. But gradually, I found joy in seeing someone grow through my own efforts, and it felt really rewarding to be thanked for it..."
I recalled my time in the hero party, which clouded my heart.
"I used to be part of a really skilled adventurer party, but once my role as a Nurturer was done, I was immediately let go."
"..."
"Even when my teammates grew in that party, I didn"t feel any joy or happiness from it. When I thought back on it, I realized that none of them ever said 'thank you' to me."
That was just how my role in that party was, so it was to be expected.
Plus, as a Trainer, my contributions were hard to notice.
If I were a healer, it would be obvious that I was helping my teammates, and I would naturally receive words of thanks.
But in my case, it was less visible, so I didn't get any gratitude.
"So, when I helped Rose grow and she said 'thank you,' it made me really happy. After that, I helped Cosmos and Ms. Nemophila too, and I received thanks again, which helped me discover the joy of being a Nurturer."
As I reflected on the words of gratitude I had received, I looked up at Ms. Nemophila.
"Of course, one of the joys is being able to see everyone grow stronger up close. So, what I really want to do right now is to watch over people's growth as a Nurturer and be appreciated for it."
"..."
I shared my honest feelings with Ms. Nemophila.
Saying it out loud felt surprisingly right, but Ms. Nemophila stood there silently.
"Um, was that a bit too vague?"
"No, I think it sounds very much like you, Roezé."
"Like me?"
What does that mean? I felt a mix of being complimented and unsure.
Just then, Ms. Nemophila summarized it nicely.
"So, Roezé likes to nurture people, right?"
"Well, I feel like that's a bit off..."
But maybe it's not entirely wrong.
I might actually enjoy nurturing others.
As I thought about it, Ms. Nemophila suddenly turned her gaze toward me.
"Then, you must be really looking forward to that child's growth."
"Yeah, I guess so. They seem to lack confidence, but I see a lot of potential in them."
At that moment, Fran, who was preparing tools in the workshop, almost dropped something with a startled "Whoa!"
He fumbled with the tools, getting distracted and tripping over his own feet.
Watching him, we broke into a cold sweat.
"...Is he going to be okay? Can he really make a strong weapon for that child?"
"I-I think it should be fine. Fran will definitely make a good weapon."
Hearing my words, Ms. Nemophila looked skeptical, raising an eyebrow.
It's understandable since Fran doesn't have that kind of presence, but once they see the finished product, they'll understand.
"Well, for now, we're just waiting on Rose and Cosmos. I think they'll bring back the materials in a few days, and then we can start working."
"I see, I'll let Father know."
As I said, "Thank you for your continued support," Ms. Nemophila nodded slightly in response.
"This solves the problem of finding the workshop. The next issues are gathering materials and weapon upgrades, but then──."
"Lady, Sir Roezé!"
"Oh, Ms. Kikrys!"
I turned around in surprise at the voice coming from behind me, and there stood a small servant at the entrance of the castle workshop.
She was Ms. Kikrys, the direct attendant of Ms. Nemophila and the head of the castle's servants.
"It's been a while, Ms. Kikrys. I'm glad to see you're doing well."
"I'm relieved to see that you're well too, Sir Roezé. Thank you for all your help back then."
"Kikrys, what's going on? Is something the matter?"
Ms. Nemophila asked in a serious tone, surprised by Ms. Kikrys's sudden appearance.
Ms. Kikrys responded with a gentle smile.
"Rose and Lady Cosmos have arrived."
"What?!"
I could hardly believe my ears.
Reflexively, I rushed to the workshop window to look outside.
I could just make out the castle gate, and there was Rose, beaming with a big smile, with Cosmos, who looked a bit dizzy, being supported by her.
When Rose noticed us, she waved enthusiastically.
"Mr. Roezé, Fran! We defeated a flying dragon and brought back some materials!"
"That was way too fast!"
I had just said how enjoyable it was to watch people grow, but I couldn't help but think that Rose had grown up too quickly.
