Volume 19 Chapter 1 Confluence [Border Map Available (Temporary)]
The next day, Al woke up when the sun was already high in the sky.
It was because the celebration for Orson's recovery from his injury the night before had gotten quite lively.
Al was a bit anxious about catching up with the envoy before they crossed the border, so he endured a hangover headache and nausea and headed towards Orion, the town on the border with the Kingdom of Messina, cutting through the ridges of the Mehetabel Mountains in the northern part of the capital.
Along the way, he spotted what seemed to be ruins on the ridge of a 2000-meter-high mountain range, but he was feeling unwell and didn't have the time.
Sometimes, just approaching it would give him a terrible headache, so he had no choice but to record only the coordinates of the location.
With some regret, Al managed to reach Orion town just before sunset.
There, as Lord Duran had told him, there was a group that seemed to be the envoy, camping on the outskirts of the town.
"Phew, I think I made it in time."
Al descended onto the town road a few hundred meters ahead, looking a bit tired and slightly slumped.
After confirming that no one was around, he used the 'Transport' spell to retrieve his usual large luggage from the 'Transport' space of the research tower.
After making sure there was no one around, he used the 'Transport' spell to retrieve his usual large luggage from the 'Transport' space in the research tower.
Generally speaking, it's easier to have less luggage, but he thought it would be suspicious if he had too little luggage even though he was going to be traveling for several days.
Taking out the light blue and white striped tabard representing the Margrave Rain Knights' squire, which he had borrowed from Lord Duran in advance, he put it on and, since he wouldn't normally carry a longsword, he strapped it to his waist and shouldered his belongings.
Wearing the tabard to join the delegation was an action suggested by Lord Duran, as it would make him the least conspicuous.
Although he had hardly ever swung a longsword and found it bothersome, he thought it couldn't be helped, as there was no way a squire wouldn't be carrying a sword.
"Just a little further to go!"
'You can do it!'
Encouraged by Glee's cheers, he entered the camping area of the delegation.
The first destination was the second squad of the Margrave Rain Knights, to which his older brother, Gustave, belonged.
This time, as the escort for the delegation, one squad (about 18 people each) from the Sylvester Kingdom's second knight squad, the Margrave Rain Knights' second squad, and the magic unit participated, making it easy to distinguish them by the different colors of their tabards.
He was able to quickly spot a familiar face.
"Orville! Where's my brother?"
Orville was the son of squire Osbard and a childhood friend of Al, sharing the same age.
Noticing that Al was wearing a tabard of the same color as his own, Orville's eyes widened in surprise.
"Sir Alfred, what are you doing here? And in that outfit..."
"Well, it's a long story. I have a letter from Lord Duran, the vice-captain of the 4th squad. This tabard is also borrowed from Lord Duran. I urgently want to see my brother."
"Okay. Here it is."
Orville walks ahead.
On the way, they passed some men wearing tabards of the same color who looked suspicious, but since Orville was with them, they seemed to realize that something was up, and so they didn't question who he was.
Finally, when they reach the shade of a tent, Orville tells him to wait a bit.
After a while, Gustave arrived with Orville.
"What's wrong? Alfred"
"Read this first"
Al gives Gustave the letter that Lord Duran wrote him.
He opened it as soon as he received it.
"I see, I understand what Lord Duran is concerned about. I'm not fully convinced yet about how dangerous it is, but of course, there's no reason to doubt it. I suppose I'll act as instructed. Please show me the records you presented to Lord Duran later. And what about the two letters written in this letter?"
"Here they are"
Al hands over 2 letters, one addressed to (The third daughter of Margrave Rain) and the other to the junior leader of Gustave's squad.
"Alright, let's go. Follow me"
Gustave, having received the letters, now takes the lead and starts walking.
They quickly reach another tent.
This tent had an entrance and was arranged so that the inside couldn't be seen.
"This is Gustave from the second squad. An urgent message has come from the capital. Please relay it to Lady Serena."
As he called out in front of the entrance, a woman shorter than Al peeked out.
Her hair was straight, black, and cut short.
She was dressed in a tabard like a squire, wearing pants.
She looked intently at Gustave, Al, and Orville in turn.
"You look like a stranger. Who are you?"
The woman said, pointing at Al.
"This is my younger brother Alfred. He brought a letter from Lord Duran."
The woman stared at Al with suspicion for a while, but seeing him maintain eye contact, she nodded lightly.
"Understood. I will take the letter. Could you wait a moment?"
Gustave gives both letters.
The woman noticed that there were 2 letters and looked at Gustave with a puzzled expression, but when she saw him nod, she took both letters and disappeared into the tent.
"She is Audrey. She is Lady Serena's guardian. It is widely rumored that she can use magic."
Al nodded at Gustave's explanation.
Al's 'Detect Magic' had indeed reacted just now from inside the tent.
They must have used a spell to check if there was any magic in the letter.
After waiting for a while, Audrey showed up.
"Sir Gustave, Sir Alfred, please come in. Please wait outside, the rest of your entourage."
It seems that Orville won't be allowed inside.
Al waves apologetically, and Orville nods lightly as if to say it's no problem.
Inside the tent, there's a table, and a lamp is already lit.
As Audrey leads the two men in, Serena, who was sitting in a chair, stands up.
Her dress is simple, but her rich golden curly hair remains unchanged, and she still looks like a princess.
"Gustave, well done. It's been a while, Alfred. I've heard a lot about you from Naresh. Even during this journey. Please, take a seat first. And then tell me everything in detail. I also want to see the man mentioned in Lord Duran's letter."
Did the letter to Serena also mention the story about the image of the Barbarians' mining site in the Sipree Mountains?
But it might be easier for them to understand if they see the actual situation with the power of the magicians of the Tempest Kingdom.
Let's show them the part where he defeat the goblins first.
Seeing Audrey using magic normally, it seems that using spells here won't be a problem without specifically asking for permission.
"I understand. Then, let's start with this record first..."
'Record & Play' 'Regeneration' 50cm Window
Al adjusts the window so that Serena and Gustave can see it well, opening the window for 'Regeneration' without mentioning the surprised looks of the 3 people who seem to be seeing it for the first time.
* * *
"I see, so this is the evidence that the Marquis Prentis family of Tempest is secretly operating in our Margrave Rain... and there might be many magicians of this level on their side..."
Serena ponders deeply.
Next to her, Gustave looks angry, his face turning red as if he wants to say something, but Serena secretly signals him to wait a little with her hand.
"What do you think, Audrey?"
Audrey tilts her head in response to Serena's question.
"First, how did you manage to record something like this... is this real?"
So that's where it starts... Lord Duran believes that Al is a threat regarding the magicians of the Tempest Kingdom, but it seems not everyone is convinced right away.
He was worried to hear that he was considered elite because he can use several types of spells, but it seems Lord Duran might be right.
Is there anyone besides Al who can explain this?
What about Lord Zora?
He is a magician who served the former Count Senet family.
While he can't disclose that information, would he be able to explain the threat?
"I've heard that Sir Naresh is participating in this delegation, but isn't there someone named Lord Zora accompanying him? He should be familiar with the reality of the Tempest Kingdom's magicians."
Serena nodded at Al's words.
And Naresh and Lord Zora were summoned to Serena's tent.
